zip files as github releases

Would it be possible to publish zip files (that get published as AWS Lambda Layers) also in github releases?

In my case, I am prevented from accessing layers in AWS accounts outside of our organization (due to a Service Control Policy). For datadog-lambda-python lambda layer I managed do download the zip file manually from the repo's releases. But for this repository I can't. Is it something that can be potentially added?

Hey @pmarko1711 that's something I can consider!

But you can also do this with the AWS CLI if you'd like. It's just "aws lambda get-layer-version", and that will return a JSON blob with a link to the layer zip.

I also wrote a little tool to grab any public layer: https://github.com/astuyve/lyoink

One automation you might consider is vibe coding a Lambda function in your AWS account which runs every few hours, pulls the latest layer ZIP, and then pushes it to your own account.

I would happily just use aws lambda get-layer-version, but that launches an AWS API call that I am prevented from running from my AWS account as it is against the datadog AWS account.

Hi @pmarko1711, got it! I understand – you don't need to use your restricted AWS access credentials for that API call. Rather any valid AWS credentials will do. You can even create a new AWS account (even in the same OU if you want) and use creds just for this task.

Thanks. Yes, I can for sure do that, but I would prefer not to introduce a personal AWS account into our corporate setup. And creation of an account in our OU, it would still be subject to corporate SCPs. I might in the end grab it this way, or perhaps we alter the SCPs, but still, if easy, it would be nice to just make the zip file available here as a github release, and I pick it from here (and put it into our artifactory)
