Can you guys add a feature for "Dynamic" Fit for the Windows version that automatically expands the video vertically for the video if it's in a window or full screen to effectively scale the video vertically to eliminate any black bars on the top/bottom of the video on ultra wide monitors? Only some videos have these black bars as part of the video.
Yes, there's no option for dynamic fit under there. None of the available options does what I'm describing.
Auto Crop expands to fill it horizontally, which will cut off the video off top and the bottom of the video.
"Dynamic" Fit should expand the video to fill horizontally instead.
Let me use Ai to help explain it better how Emby implements it.
Dynamic Fit is a display setting in the modern Emby for Windows application designed to automatically eliminate black bars without stretching or distorting the video image. It acts as an intelligent, automated aspect ratio controller powered by background video analysis.
How Dynamic Fit Works:
Prevents "Pillarboxing" and "Letterboxing" Simultaneously: The primary goal of Dynamic Fit is to resolve instances where a video outputs with black bars on both the top/bottom and left/right sides (often caused by mismatches between ultra-wide screens and hardcoded video padding). It ensures you only ever have bars on one axis, maximizing your screen real estate.
Instant adjustments: Unlike traditional video cropping tools that might wait a few seconds to confirm an aspect ratio change, Dynamic Fit uses active image analysis and plausibility checks to adjust the frame instantly and without delay.
Configuration-free: You do not need to manually calculate aspect ratios or set custom window dimensions. It continuously adapts to the exact size of your active output window—even adapting in real time if you resize the window or drag the Emby app from one monitor to another.
Who is it for?
This feature is highly beneficial for users with ultrawide monitors or home cinema projector setups. If you frequently watch content where the video file contains hardcoded black bars (common in certain 4K or Cinemascope releases), Dynamic Fit detects the actual content boundaries and scales the player seamlessly to fit your specific display resolution.
Again, this is not what I'm talking about... I understand and tested all the modes but there's still black bars on top and bottom of some videos because these bars are part of the video, also causing the video not to be fully expanded to the width of the screen. I am requesting a feature to automatically scale the video to remove these top and bottom black bars on an ultrawide because there is more horizontal space.
Example (Fit):
Notice the black bars still on top and bottom of the video because the bars are part of the video. Also the video is not expanded to the width of the screen.
Auto Crop is not good because it cuts off part of the video when it zooms in. And Stretch also is bad because it distorts the video.
In Emby for Windows there's an option for Dynamic Fit that will automatically remove the top and bottom black bars that are part of the video on an ultrawide.

Emby for Windows has this option.
