Summary

The current Java Checkers interface is functional but has the appearance of a prototype. The goal of this project is to improve usability, accessibility, visual hierarchy, interaction feedback, and overall polish while maintaining the simplicity of a classic checkers game.

Motivation

A modernized interface will:

  • Make the game more accessible and enjoyable to users
  • Improve clarity of game state and player actions
  • Provide a professional, polished appearance
  • Create a solid foundation for future feature enhancements

  • Improve visual hierarchy
  • Modernize the board appearance
  • Improve interaction feedback

  • Improve player awareness through game status indicators
  • Prepare the UI for future features

Success Criteria

  • Users can immediately identify whose turn it is
  • Selected pieces are obvious
  • Legal moves are clearly displayed
  • The interface feels polished and responsive
  • Accessibility is improved
  • The UI supports future enhancements without major redesign
