When tracing in scribble mode and auto-merge is set to on, overlapping traces with the same name are merged. This should also happen when tracing mode is set to poly ("polygons" or point-point tracing). When the user R-clicks to close the polygon, if auto-merge is set to on, overlapping traces named the same thing should be merged.
