_parent doesn't remember filters at top level

Hey Norm and all

Am using the _parent featrure which is great - our application goes from a grid to a details page via an Action Button and then theres different Menu buttons they can select which auto submits a form connected to the top level grid

On the bottom level form I have this

_asf
_parent=2

Which takes us back to the grid

Only thing is the grid does not remember what if any filters were applied and does not remember what was in the search bar and now displays whjole grid of data - makes for a jarring user experience

Is there anyway to use existing feature of knack to resolve this kind of issue?

This is going to be tricky to fix. _parent uses your URL to navigate back to the previous page and when the second modal opens the query string has been removed. Also because _parent is on the second modal when your on the first we don't know what the user intends, which makes storing the query string difficult.

I'm not sure it can be done with the current implementation of _parent.

Indeed, this one is going to be tricky.
We'd need to implement some caching method for the URLs in case we'd need one of them eventually, as in the case of a _parent keyword being used down a few modal pages.

Need to think about it.

Hey guys thanks for your responses - you know it somewhat works now I don't know how maybe ou did something

In any case I believe whole thing resolved by your _ask keyword

We were simulating a similar thing by going down another level with an _asf which triggered other actions - setting it up as Action links instead with a confirmation will take away the need for multiple levels

By the by the set up combination I implemented that kind of worked was like this

Action Link on a grid opens a modal view

Modal view has a range of Forms stored as menu links (Actions)

Each Menu link opens up a simple form which asks them to confirm action - Yes / No (second modal form)

Yes link opens a new form which auto submits I have this form linked to a Make scenario which takes further actions

the KTL code that somewhat works was this

_asf
_cmr=view1, view2
_parent=3

and do not set form to go to parent view

Now view1 and view2 are specifically NOT the grid you want to remain as is - they could be dummy views if needed - everything but rhe grid is fine

Also I took the user filters off and put in place static knack ones

and finally the f=grid does have an autorefresh - I don't knwo if thats relevant or not

I find this works except for some reason the first time you use it - then it removes all filters - as you keep using it, it works

And then of course you coded something that made the whole thing redundant ...

So thanks... No really thanks it will be much easier to maintain
