I like the new Link button in CKEditor 5, but IMO the "Entry" link type should be the default option here:
Not because most links are going to be internal links (that will vary by site), but because when the "URL" type is the default selected, a lot of authors will inevitably miss/forget that there is a better way to create internal links than to copy/paste in an absolute, internal URL. One thing we emphasise a lot when training clients/authors in Craft, is to always choose "Link to an entry" when creating a link to internal content, instead of copy-pasting in an absolute, internal URL. Over the years we've seen a lot of authors still mess that up w/ CKEditor though – which I've chalked up to the "Link to an entry" button in prior CKEditor versions having been kind of hidden away (i.e. in a separate dropdown next to the actual Link button). With CKEditor 5, I'm pretty sure that a lot of authors are going to keep messing this up, because if they want to create an internal link and "URL" is the default link type in the Link popup, a lot of them are 100% going to go ahead and copy/paste in an absolute, internal link, instead of realising that they can change the link type to "Entry". On the flipside, if authors want to create an external link and the default link type was "Entry", they'd have no choice but to figure out that they need to change the link type, in order to achieve their goal. In that way, having "Entry" as the default is better/safer UI. |
That’s a good idea, thanks! I raised a PR for this.
