refactor(provider): rename ProMetadata and Workspace.Pro to Platform - #1585
Rename Workspace.Pro to Workspace.Platform; struct tag stays json:"pro, omitempty".
Rename (*Workspace).IsPro() to IsPlatform(); callers updated in 12 files via gopls rename.
Field doc comment: "pro workspace" to "platform workspace", wrapped to two lines for lll.
Why
Pro to Platform rename, T1 slice of devsy-rename-migration. Only internal Go identifiers change. The persisted JSON key pro is a T3 boundary and is unchanged, so stored workspace configs are unaffected.
Tier
T1: internal Go identifiers, all callers in this repo. JSON tag pro unchanged. No CLI, env, or output text changes.
Validation
go build ./...: pass
mkdir -p dist && mise run cli:format: pass
mise run cli:lint:ci: pass (first run flagged lll on the rewritten comment; wrapped, re-run clean)
GOOS=windows go vet on pkg/provider, daemonclient, pkg/workspace, cmd/pro/provider, cmd/pro/workspace, cmd/workspace: pass
go test on the same packages: pass
Regex ProMetadata|\bIsPro\(|\.Pro\b|\bPro: over touched paths: before 27, after 0
CodeRabbit CLI
coderabbit review --agent --committed failed twice with "Connection failed: WebSocket closed" (recoverable). No CLI findings. The GitHub CodeRabbit review still gates.
Auto-merge
Eligible: yes (T1). 12 files, 58 changed non-test lines (30 added, 28 removed). Exported names change, but all callers are in this repo. Flag as needs human if a reviewer treats them as public API.
Remaining
Regex hits left in touched paths: 0.
Outside touched files: "Devsy Pro" string in cmd/pro/start_docker.go (T2).
Not matched by regex, in cmd/workspace/troubleshoot.go: collectWorkspaceProTroubleshoot, collectProWorkspaceInfo, DevsyProInstances (ProInstance family).
Next
ProInstance family: pkg/provider/dir.go, pkg/provider/pro.go, pkg/provider/operationlock.go and their callers.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Improvements
Workspace listings now identify platform workspaces and show their display names when available.
Imported and existing platform workspaces now consistently use platform details for matching, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Platform workspaces continue to be protected from renaming.
Workspace metadata and related checks now use platform terminology across provider workflows, workspace management, listing, and troubleshooting. The metadata retains the existing pro JSON key.

Summary
Platform metadata and workspace recognition pkg/provider/workspace.go, pkg/workspace/list.go, pkg/workspace/rename.go, pkg/workspace/workspace.go
The workspace field, metadata type, and recognition method now use platform terminology. Workspace conversion, reconciliation, renaming, lookup, and selection use platform metadata.
Platform metadata in provider workflows cmd/pro/provider/create/workspace.go, cmd/pro/provider/watch/workspaces.go, cmd/pro/workspace/import.go, pkg/client/clientimplementation/daemonclient/*, pkg/provider/env.go
Provider creation and import paths write platform metadata. Address, project, and imported-instance lookup paths read platform metadata.
Platform workspace listing and troubleshooting cmd/workspace/list.go, cmd/workspace/troubleshoot.go
Workspace listing uses platform display names and reports platform status. Troubleshooting checks platform metadata and uses its project.
This release removes exported provider names, so downstream Go projects that use them will fail to build even though saved workspace configurations remain readable. Preserve compatibility or defer the rename to a major release before merging.
Security architecture risk:🔵 Low · up to 30a87
The rename preserves stored workspace metadata and the inspected ownership and project-routing checks. However, downstream Go code using the removed exported names must migrate. Whether such external consumers exist is not established.
Retained concerns
Low · architecture · observed: The exported Go contract removes Workspace.Pro, ProMetadata and IsPro without compatibility names. A downstream package referencing these identifiers will no longer compile against the reviewed head, even though its persisted workspace JSON remains compatible. External consumer existence is unresolved.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The inspected rename does not expand project or workspace targeting: producers retain the same instance and project values, and consumers use those values at the same routing and ownership checks. This conclusion is limited to the compared repository workflows, not an external deployment inventory.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Platform recognition remains a metadata-presence check, not a new authentication mechanism. The existing imported-workspace requirement, daemon initialization check and platform-managed rename restriction remain unchanged by the rename.
