Build metadata published to PyPI is missing from the GitHub source tree #65

Description

@benagentai93-dot

Baseline

  • Release: v1.3.1
  • Git commit: 5a306f8956cb1eeae69f9709de0e4d61b44e11e7

Reproduction

git clone https://github.com/google/agents-cli.git
cd agents-cli
git checkout 5a306f8956cb1eeae69f9709de0e4d61b44e11e7
test -f pyproject.toml
uv build

Actual behavior

The tagged GitHub source tree has no root pyproject.toml, so a source checkout is not independently buildable as the published Python project.

The official PyPI 1.3.1 sdist does contain the missing file:

  • sdist SHA256: 71e2d47247321f7186238bb767170b1642ae697f659f7674ee188ce09b07b8ec
  • extracted pyproject.toml SHA256: bfb7a1d86226fb4e6464f9984a5101f0871b4eb0a0a4bae573221ec57959a878

Expected behavior

The release tag should contain the build metadata needed to build the same installable package from a GitHub source checkout.

Minimal fix

Restore the root pyproject.toml byte-for-byte from the official 1.3.1 sdist. No lockfile or new dependency is required.

Validated implementation: benagentai93-dot@74a8f61

Test evidence

On both Python 3.11 and 3.13, the resulting source checkout passes:

  • ruff check src tests
  • ty check src
  • pytest tests
  • uv build
  • installation of the built wheel followed by agents-cli --version

The restored file remains byte-identical to the official sdist copy.
