Onebox Contributor License Agreement

Thank you for your interest in contributing to Onebox, a project of LabStack LLC ("LabStack", "we", "us").

This Contributor License Agreement ("Agreement") documents the rights granted by contributors to LabStack. It applies to any Contribution you submit to any project owned or managed by LabStack. Signing it is a one-time step; it covers all of your future Contributions to Onebox unless you notify us otherwise.

You keep the copyright in your Contribution. This Agreement is a license, not an assignment. You may continue to use your Contribution however you wish, including in other projects under other licenses.

1. Definitions

"You" means the individual who submits a Contribution to LabStack, or the legal entity on whose behalf a Contribution is submitted. For a legal entity, the entity making a Contribution and all other entities that control, are controlled by, or are under common control with that entity are considered a single Contributor.

"Contribution" means any original work of authorship, including any modification to or addition to an existing work, that is intentionally submitted by You to LabStack for inclusion in, or documentation of, any of the products owned or managed by LabStack. "Submitted" means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent to LabStack or its representatives, including but not limited to communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems, and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, LabStack for the purpose of discussing and improving the work — excluding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise designated in writing by You as "Not a Contribution".

2. Copyright license

Subject to the terms of this Agreement, You grant to LabStack and to recipients of software distributed by LabStack a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute Your Contribution and such derivative works.

3. Patent license

Subject to the terms of this Agreement, You grant to LabStack and to recipients of software distributed by LabStack a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable (except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer Your Contribution, where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable by You that are necessarily infringed by Your Contribution alone or by combination of Your Contribution with the work to which You submitted it.

If any entity institutes patent litigation against You or any other entity alleging that Your Contribution, or the work to which You contributed it, constitutes direct or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses granted to that entity under this Agreement for that Contribution or work terminate as of the date such litigation is filed.

4. Right to relicense

You grant LabStack the right to license Your Contribution under any license terms, including licenses other than the Apache License, Version 2.0, and to distribute Your Contribution as part of proprietary or commercially licensed offerings.

This clause exists so that Onebox can offer a commercially licensed edition without needing to locate and re-negotiate with every past contributor. It does not restrict Your own use of Your Contribution, and it does not withdraw any release already made under an open source license: every version of Onebox published under the Apache License, Version 2.0, remains available under that license permanently.

5. Your representations

You represent that:

  1. You are legally entitled to grant the above licenses.
  2. Each of Your Contributions is Your original creation, or You have identified within it the complete details of any third-party license or other restriction of which You are personally aware and which is associated with any part of Your Contribution.
  3. If Your employer has rights to intellectual property that You create, You have received permission to make Your Contributions on behalf of that employer, that Your employer has waived such rights for Your Contributions to LabStack, or that Your employer has executed a separate Contributor License Agreement with LabStack.

6. No warranty and no obligation

Your Contribution is provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. You are not expected to provide support for Your Contribution.

LabStack is under no obligation to accept, merge, or continue to distribute any Contribution.

7. Notification

You agree to notify LabStack of any facts or circumstances of which You become aware that would make these representations inaccurate in any respect.

How to sign

Open a pull request. An automated check will ask you to accept this Agreement by leaving a comment on the pull request; the check records your acceptance against your account, and future pull requests will not ask again.

If you are contributing on behalf of a legal entity that requires a countersigned document, email opensource@labstack.com before opening the pull request.
