Status: T013 - Phase 2 Foundational
Purpose: Ensure CodeRabbit configuration references and recommendations align with canonical label system
Scope: Cross-reference .coderabbit.yml documentation with .github/labels.yml (158 canonical labels)
Authority: .github/labels.yml is the single source of truth for organization labels (LOCKED)

Executive Summary

CodeRabbit configuration documents the labeling system and PR template routing. This document validates that:

  1. All documented labels exist in .github/labels.yml
  2. All documented templates exist in .github/PULL_REQUEST_TEMPLATE/
  3. PR template routing matches actual branch-to-template mappings
  4. Label automation guidance is accurate against actual labeling workflows
  5. No contradictions between documentation and source of truth

Change Impact

When .github/labels.yml or .github/issue-types.yml changes:

  1. Update .coderabbit.yml to reflect new label names or issue types
  2. Update this validation document to confirm new mappings
  3. Update BRANCH_TYPE_PRIORITY_MAPPING.md if branch-type label assignments change
  4. Re-run CI validation to ensure no dead references

Process:

  • PR that changes .github/labels.yml MUST include corresponding .coderabbit.yml updates
  • Validation CI checks for consistency between configuration files
  • CodeRabbit documentation is owned by configuration maintainers, reviewed alongside label/template changes

Maintenance Guidelines

When Adding a New Label

  1. Add label definition to .github/labels.yml
  2. Update this document with new label entry
  3. Update .coderabbit.yml documentation if label is user-visible
  4. Update BRANCH_TYPE_PRIORITY_MAPPING.md if applicable
  5. Run CI validation to ensure consistency

When Renaming a Label

  1. Update .github/labels.yml
  2. Update all references in .coderabbit.yml
  3. Update this validation document
  4. Update BRANCH_TYPE_PRIORITY_MAPPING.md if applicable
  5. Run CI validation and check for orphaned label references

When Removing a Label

  1. Remove from .github/labels.yml
  2. Remove from .coderabbit.yml documentation
  3. Remove from this validation document
  4. Update BRANCH_TYPE_PRIORITY_MAPPING.md if applicable
  5. Run CI validation to ensure no active references remain
