Notice of Moto-Ext hard fork

Moto-Ext will be hard forked off Moto effective 1st February 2026.

The LocalStack team will continue to maintain Moto-Ext as an independent project and the codebase will diverge permanently from the upstream project. Changes made upstream will no longer be merged back, and Moto-Ext will not remain architecturally compatible with Moto.

What this means

• Moto-Ext will follow its own technical direction and priorities
• Contributions to Moto will no longer be automatically applied to Moto-Ext
• Future pull requests to Moto-Ext will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for compatibility and relevance

Why we are doing this

The decision to fork is due to difference in long-term goals and design decisions. Certain LocalStack-specific needs cannot be addressed within the constraints of the upstream project.

Maintaining an independent fork will allow us to evolve faster and build features more efficiently, aligned with our users' needs.
