Pitch: Refurbish and Sphinx #10

Description

@amotl

Hi there.

I would like to drop a quick idea/pitch here, which goes like "In search for embedding Open Graph data into Sphinx pages".

It is to a) probe if there is interest in the community, and b) if refurbishing this repository 1 makes sense, in order to add a Sphinx extension on top, or if there is already another solution for what we are aiming at. In this spirit, this is mostly a request to the community, to gather people of interest together, and let them have their voice on this topic.

Status quo

Feature request

  • What is missing for us, is a similar Sphinx extension like oEmbedPy that consumes Open Graph instead of oEmbed metadata.

Thoughts

  • Candidates for low-level libraries would be PyOpenGraph and ogp, but both are not maintained any longer.
  • If there would be a modern Python library implementing an Open Graph consumer, or if we'd refurbish one of the existing ones, we could possibly pair that with Sphinx fundamentals in @attakei's oEmbedPy library, in order to create a corresponding pendant for embedding Open Graph data into Sphinx pages.

Q & A

Please upvote 👍 if you think it would be good idea, or add your suggestions how you would solve the problem, or share any existing solutions we may have missed. Thanks!
