Research-backed TODO

Codex CLI users often rely on MCP/tool integrations. CodexClaw should make configured tools discoverable and healthy without requiring manual config spelunking.

Acceptance criteria

  • Read and display detected MCP/tool configuration for the active Codex environment where available.
  • Show enabled servers, command paths, arguments, environment requirements, and last health check status.
  • Provide copyable setup snippets for common local servers such as filesystem, git, memory, and fetch.
  • Never expose secret values in the UI or issue/export outputs.

Public research basis

  • MCP servers repository points users to the MCP Registry and reference filesystem/git/memory/fetch servers.
  • Open WebUI lists MCP and tool/plugin extensibility as part of a mature AI UI.
  • Open SWE argues for curated tools rather than unbounded tool accumulation.

Non-goals

  • No arbitrary secret entry in-browser.
  • No automatic installation of third-party servers in the first pass.

Source set

  • OpenAI Codex CLI - local terminal coding agent, installer paths, IDE/desktop context.
  • OpenHands - local GUI with REST API + SPA, CLI, cloud collaboration/integrations.
  • Aider - repo maps, git integration, image/web context, lint/test loops.
  • Continue - source-controlled AI checks as markdown agents in CI.
  • Open SWE - isolated sandboxes, AGENTS.md context, curated tools, subagents, Slack/Linear handoff.
  • Model Context Protocol servers - tool/server registry pattern, filesystem/git/memory/fetch examples, security warnings.
  • Open WebUI - responsive/PWA UI, RAG/web browsing, artifact storage, permissions.
  • OpenCode - coding-agent modes, plan/build separation, subagent pattern.
  • Cline - autonomous coding agent as SDK, IDE extension, and CLI assistant.
  • Roo Code - agent-oriented coding workflow inside the editor.
