+# AlmaLinux Board of Directors Election 2026 - Cohort A
+
+## Process
+
+The AlmaLinux OS Foundation is running an election to fill 2 Cohort A seats on the Board of Directors. The election will start on September 14th, 2026.
+
+At this stage we are looking for nominees for the Board of Director positions. To be nominated, a candidate must:
+
+- Be an AlmaLinux OS Foundation member in good standing by July 16th, 2026
+- Not be a member of the Election Committee running this election
+
+Nominations come from members in good standing: Individual and Mirror members can each nominate one candidate other than themselves, and Sponsor members (Platinum, Gold, Ruby, Silver) can nominate a representative affiliated with their organization.

+### FAQ

+- When does the election start?
+  - The election starts on September 14, 2026 and runs until October 2, 2026. If we don't reach quorum by October 2nd, the election will stay open until quorum is reached.
+  - To reach the quorum we need at least 10% of all eligible Foundation members to vote. Because each membership class (Individual, Silver Sponsor, etc.) carries a different voting weight, the members who vote must also add up to at least 10% of the total voting weight.

+- Who can vote?
+  - Any Platinum, Gold, Ruby, Silver, Individual, or Mirror member in good standing, approved by the Membership Committee before July 16th, 2026.
+  - A member is in good standing when they follow the Foundation's rules - the Certificate of Incorporation, the bylaws, the membership application, and any policies adopted by the board - and have paid any applicable sponsorship fees on time. Individual and Mirror membership is free.

+  - If you are eligible to vote, you will receive an email with the link to the voting page on [AlmaLinux Accounts](https://accounts.almalinux.org/elections/), and your voting credentials, on the day the election starts.

+- How many votes does each member get?
+  - You cast a single ranked ballot. Depending on your membership class, that ballot carries a set weight:
+    - Platinum sponsors: 50
+    - Gold sponsors: 15
+    - Ruby sponsors: 5
+    - Silver sponsors: 5
+    - Individual and Mirror members: 1

+- How are votes tallied?
+  - Voting is ranked choice: instead of picking a single name, you rank the candidates in your order of preference. Your ballot carries the number of votes for your membership class (see above).
+  - Winners are selected using [Meek Single Transferable Vote (High-Precision Variant)](https://accounts.almalinux.org/elections/algorithm/), a ranked-choice method for filling multiple seats. Each seat has a target threshold (a quota). Your vote starts with your top choice; when a candidate has more than they need to reach the quota, the surplus transfers fractionally to voters' next choices, and candidates with the fewest votes are eliminated with their votes transferring onward. This repeats until every seat is filled.
