altimate-code auth logout → "altimate-backend" removed only the auth.json entry. Browser sign-in also saves the gateway key to ~/.altimate/altimate.json, and the provider loader and all workspace calls (api-client, state, identity, memory/skill sync, link, datamate) read that file first. After sign-out the key stayed on disk and still worked, so delegated runs (e.g. /altimate-code:altimate from Claude Code) kept sending requests as the signed-out user. On a shared machine, the next person's runs go out under the previous user's identity.
Fix
providers.ts: logging out of altimate-backend now calls AltimateApi.clearCredentials() (via cliTry, so a failed delete is reported rather than "Logout successful").
providers.ts: the logout picker lists altimate-backend when only altimate.json exists (credentials pasted in the TUI dialog). Before, the CLI reported "No credentials found" and gave no way to sign out.
provider-credentials.tsx: TUI /logout also removes the auth.json entry. A pasted url::instance::key there would otherwise keep the provider loader's fallback path working.
After sign-out, workspace calls hit NotConfiguredError ("Altimate credentials not configured — sign in first.").
Not in scope
The key is only removed locally; it is not revoked on the server. Revoking it at sign-out needs a backend endpoint.
Testing
New CLI test in test/cli/providers-logout.test.ts covers browser sign-in (both stores) and file-only credentials. It fails on main (altimate.json still present) and passes with this change.
bun test test/cli test/upstream/fork-feature-guards.test.ts: 1187 pass. 4 failures in test/cli/run/{json-output,budget-finalization}.test.ts also fail on main and are unrelated.
Logging out of the Altimate backend now removes its saved credentials, whether they’re stored in Altimate’s settings or the shared authentication store.
Logout works consistently from the command line and the interface, while leaving credentials for other providers unchanged.
Documentation
Added instructions for signing out of the Altimate LLM Gateway using the command line or the interface.
`altimate-code auth logout` for `altimate-backend` only dropped the
`auth.json` entry. Browser sign-in also writes the key to
`~/.altimate/altimate.json`, which the provider loader and every
workspace call read first, so the signed-out user's key kept working.
- Call `AltimateApi.clearCredentials()` when logging out of `altimate-backend`
- List `altimate-backend` in the logout picker when only `altimate.json`
exists (TUI paste dialog), so it can be signed out from the CLI
- TUI `/logout` also removes the `auth.json` entry, so a pasted
`url::instance::key` no longer keeps the provider loader's fallback live
- Test both the browser sign-in and file-only cases

Major · Security & Privacy · Quick win
Fail sign-out when auth removal fails.
If the server rejects this request, the SDK resolves with an error result by default. This code ignores that result and shows “Signed out,” although the auth-store entry remains. After altimate.json is removed, the provider loader can use a valid entry from that store. Pass { throwOnError: true } or check the result before disposing the instance and reporting success. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Based on learnings, sign-out must invalidate every usable credential fallback.

Thanks, this fixes the reported bug. After providers logout altimate-backend, new processes no longer read ~/.altimate/altimate.json, and I confirmed locally that the new CLI test fails on main and passes here. Requesting changes for one remaining path that still authenticates after sign-out:
Major: standalone datamate MCP entries in altimate-code.json store Authorization: Bearer <gateway key>, and logout doesn't touch them (see providers.ts:650).
Minors (none block on their own):
A failed file clear gives no next step. The error is surfaced, not silent.
TUI auth.remove without throwOnError can show a false success (edge case).
Docs say requests stop, but running processes keep the key in memory until restart (safe to do in a follow-up).
clearCredentials deletes the whole file, including mcpServerUrl (pre-existing).
Docs don't give the Windows path (cosmetic).
Failure-path and TUI tests are missing (test-only).
Verified OK: other providers' logout is unaffected, altimate-backend has no env-var path, workspace readers re-read the file on each call and fail closed, caches hold only credential digests, telemetry identity doesn't use the gateway key, and Windows path handling is fine.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Major: datamate MCP entries keep the gateway key on disk and keep authenticating after logout
In standalone/CLI mode, datamate add (src/altimate/tools/datamate.ts:304,439) writes a datamate-<id> entry into altimate-code.json (project or global config) via addMcpToConfig. That entry includes headers.Authorization: "Bearer <gateway key>" from AltimateApi.buildMcpConfig (src/altimate/api/client.ts:371-383). This branch removes altimate.json and the auth-store entry but leaves those MCP entries alone. Every new session reconnects them with the signed-out user's key, which is the shared-machine case this PR sets out to fix. A project-scope entry can also end up committed.
Suggested fix: on altimate-backend logout, strip the Authorization header from (or remove) MCP entries that carry the datamate provenance stamp or the datamate- prefix, in global and current-project config. At minimum, warn and list them. Longer term, don't persist the key in MCP headers; resolve it from altimate.json at connect time.

Minor (not a blocker): a failed clear stops the logout, and the message gives no next step
If rm throws (EACCES/EPERM, or a locked file on Windows), cliTry fails the effect and authSvc.remove never runs. The failure is surfaced correctly: non-zero exit and no "Logout successful". Reordering wouldn't de-authenticate, because altimate.json would still exist and the loader reads it first.
Suggestion: include the file path and a "delete it manually" hint in the message. Optionally, still remove the auth-store entry and report the partial failure.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Minor (not a blocker, edge case): TUI /logout shows success even if this call fails
The SDK client returns { error } and does not throw unless throwOnError: true is passed. So a failed removal skips the catch and the user still sees "Signed out of Altimate LLM Gateway". A pasted url::instance::key entry would then keep loader path 2 working.
For pricing, security, and data handling details, see the [Altimate LLM Gateway guide](https://help.altimate.ai/datamates/user-guide/components/llm-gateway/).
To sign out, run `altimate providers logout altimate-backend` (or `/logout` in the TUI). This removes the saved key from `~/.altimate/altimate.json` and the auth store, so workspace requests stop until you sign in again.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Minor (not a blocker, safe to do in a follow-up): "requests stop" overstates the result for running processes
CLI logout doesn't reach an already-running serve/TUI process. Its provider state keeps the loaded key in memory until it is restarted or disposed. Suggested wording: "new sessions stop authenticating; restart running sessions or use /logout inside them." Combined with the MCP entries flagged on providers.ts:650, this sentence is currently not fully accurate.
For pricing, security, and data handling details, see the [Altimate LLM Gateway guide](https://help.altimate.ai/datamates/user-guide/components/llm-gateway/).

Minor (not a blocker, pre-existing): logout deletes the whole altimate.json, not just the key
AltimateApi.clearCredentials() runs rm on the file. That also removes a hand-set mcpServerUrl, and a hand-written file that uses ${env:...} references. Browser sign-in and the paste dialog already rewrite the file without mcpServerUrl, so this isn't new data loss. Still, say so here and in the clearCredentials JSDoc (e.g. "deletes ~/.altimate/altimate.json"), or rewrite the file without the credential fields instead.
For pricing, security, and data handling details, see the [Altimate LLM Gateway guide](https://help.altimate.ai/datamates/user-guide/components/llm-gateway/).

Review notes that don't fit a single diff line, plus nits:
Nit:providers.ts:613: the (api) label on a file-only credential is misleading; (altimate.json) would be clearer.
Nit:providers.ts:653: name the file in the error prefix, e.g. Failed to remove ~/.altimate/altimate.json: .
Contract note: the picker now lists altimate-backend whenever altimate.json exists, including hand-maintained files or files written by CI (e.g. github/review/action.yml), and logout deletes them. That looks intended, but it's worth mentioning in the release notes.
Follow-up (not in this PR): the key is only removed locally. As the description says, server-side revocation needs a backend endpoint.

Problem
altimate-code auth logout→ "altimate-backend" removed only theauth.jsonentry. Browser sign-in also saves the gateway key to~/.altimate/altimate.json, and the provider loader and all workspace calls (api-client,state,identity, memory/skill sync, link, datamate) read that file first.
