AVIP (Autonomous Vehicle Interface to Pedestrian)

AVIP is a visual communication system designed for autonomous vehicles to interact safely and clearly with pedestrians. It uses graphic signs to show things like: that the vehicle detects a pedestrian, what the vehicle intends to do next. In normal traffic, pedestrians rely on subtle non-verbal cues like eye contact, gestures, or a driver's posture to decide when it's safe to cross.

Introduction

Autonomous vehicles are becoming an important part of modern transportation. In everyday traffic, pedestrians often rely on subtle non-verbal cues such as eye contact, gestures, or a driver’s posture to understand whether it is safe to cross the road. Since autonomous vehicles may not have a visible driver, these cues may be missing. AVIP (Autonomous Vehicle Interface to Pedestrian) is a visual communication system designed to provide clear information to pedestrians by displaying simple graphic signals that indicate whether the vehicle has detected a pedestrian and what it intends to do next, helping make interactions in traffic safer and more understandable.
