GitHub retires the macOS 14 runner image on 2026-11-02, and fails macos-14 jobs during brownout windows before that date.

cli-release.yml pinned os: macos-14 for aarch64-apple-darwin, so a release cut in the meantime would have lost its Apple Silicon artifact or failed mid-run.

Both macos-14 and macos-15 are arm64, so aarch64-apple-darwin builds natively on either and there was never a reason to pin a version. This also matches the x86_64-apple-darwin row above, which already uses macos-latest, so the next image retirement needs no change here.

Verified the workflow still parses and the matrix is intact:

x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu ubuntu-latest
aarch64-unknown-linux-gnu ubuntu-latest
x86_64-apple-darwin macos-latest
aarch64-apple-darwin macos-latest <- was macos-14
x86_64-pc-windows-msvc windows-latest

Found in the ops mailbox: GitHub's "[Action Required]" notice from 2026-10-02, which had been sitting unread behind 103 copies of a single catalog-health alert.

GitHub retires the macOS 14 runner image on 2026-11-02 and fails
macos-14 jobs during brownout windows before then. cli-release.yml pinned
os: macos-14 for the aarch64-apple-darwin target, so a release cut in the
meantime would have silently lost its Apple Silicon artifact, or failed
mid-run during a brownout.

Both macos-14 and macos-15 are arm64, so aarch64-apple-darwin builds
natively on either and there was never a reason to pin one version. This
also matches the x86_64-apple-darwin row directly above, which already
uses macos-latest and cross-compiles, so the next image retirement needs
no change here at all.

Found in the ops mailbox: GitHub's "[Action Required] macOS 14 hosted
runner image is closing down" notice, 2026-10-02, which had been sitting
unread behind 103 copies of a single catalog-health alert.
