This seems like it would be an incredibly useful alternative to the VLC source, unfortunately, unlike the VLC source, whenever you click next, or the playlist naturally cycles through files, instead of immediately switching to the next file there's but a second in which the source is fully transparent. I imagine this is great for performance but unfortunately it doesn't give anywhere near the seamless experience I'd need.
just a heads-up for anyone running into this issue: I ended up implementing basically the A/B approach suggested above in my fork.
It keeps two internal Media Sources, preloads the next video on the standby source, and only switches once the new source is ready. This got rid of the transparent/blank frame between playlist items for me, both on automatic transitions and when using Next.
I've been testing it with OBS 32.2.2 on macOS, including in my actual production setup, and so far it's been working well.

maybe 2 media sources can be used internally in a way that allows seamless cycling through videos:

I also submitted the fix upstream as #60:

If anyone wants to try the already-built version in the meantime, I published it here:

it's still my personal fork, so I'd definitely treat it as such, but it specifically started because of this issue.
