Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to This PR adds a design record and documentation links only, but the docs site currently fails to build. 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Prevent Vue from parsing the Go-template expression.
VitePress evaluates {{...}} interpolation inside inline code. It parses {{.DockerRootDir}} as a Vue expression and fails the docs build. Use a fenced code block or a <code v-pre> element for this command. (vitepress.dev)

ADR-0023 left host loss uncovered and deferred the off-host copy on its two dependencies, an external account and a credential. Both dissolve when the destination is the Pi, so what remained was the risk model: "different machine, same building" is accepted for cotel snapshots, with off-site reopening if the data ever becomes materially expensive to lose. Records one finding that changes the mechanism. The copy was described as an rsync of the snapshots volume, and that cannot be built: the volume is a Docker named volume on macOS, so DockerRootDir is inside Docker Desktop's VM and no host path exists for rsync to read. Transport is therefore a per-snapshot tar stream out of a throwaway read-only container, driven by a set difference over immutable snapshot directories - exercised at 1.16 s for one directory with 9 of 9 files sha256-identical before this was decided. Also names why the mirror must not propagate source deletions, that the Pi holds a second copy of every ingest token, and that the published image is amd64 only so the Pi's available proof is byte-identity rather than a restore. ADR-0023 deferred the off-host copy on two dependencies - an external account and a credential - and both dissolve when the destination is the Pi. What was left was the risk model, and that was answered: "different machine, same building" is accepted for cotel snapshots, with off-site reopening (and returning to the board, because the credential comes back with it) if cotel ever holds data whose loss is materially expensive.
This PR is the decision only. The puller itself is a separate ticket against
scripts/.Two premises corrected before deciding
cotel-snapshots;docker info -f '{{.DockerRootDir}}'on robmini answers/var/lib/docker, which does not exist on that host - it is inside Docker Desktop's VM. No host path, so nothing for rsync to read. Transport has to come out through a container.--db-importneeds the cotel binary and the published image is amd64 only (docker manifest inspectlists one platform; production's arm64 image is built locally by compose on robmini). So the proof available on the Pi is byte-identity plus the manifest, not a restore. Filed separately as a packaging ticket; not a prerequisite for having the copy.Transport, exercised before it was written down
One snapshot directory in 1.16 s, 9 of 9 files sha256-identical to the source. The production container is never touched: the stream comes from a throwaway container of the image cotel's own runtime is built on, already present on that host, with the volume mounted
:ro.Measured 2026-10-12: 25 snapshots / 118 MB on the volume, 4.8 MB each, ~270 MB at
COTEL_SNAPSHOT_KEEP=56, against 304 GB free on the Pi. Capacity is three orders of magnitude from being the constraint. The one rule in here that looks like an omission
The mirror does not mirror deletions. It prunes on its own count and never drops a local snapshot because the source stopped having it - otherwise it would faithfully reproduce the accident ADR-0023 named as newly dangerous (
docker volume pruneon a stopped deploy) into the copy that exists to survive it. That is why the implementation will not bersync --delete, and the ADR says so explicitly so it does not get "simplified" later.Files
