WalkthroughBill and order discount handlers now revalidate financial and order state inside transactions. Discounts that exactly match collected payments can settle bills and complete eligible orders. Payment endpoints coordinate idempotent replays before kitchen PIN checks. New integration tests cover these flows and their rejection cases. ChangesFinancial safeguards

Fix the unconditional "completes the order" claim, or link to the canonical section.
Both rows say the endpoint "completes the order, and frees the table" when the bill balance reaches zero. completeExactBalanceSettlement (main/routes/bills.ts) completes the order and frees the table only when no sibling bill is still unpaid. It also skips orders that are already completed or cancelled. When a sibling bill is unpaid, the order stays active and the table stays occupied. tests/issue-exact-balance-settlement.test.ts section 10 tests this case.
Order lifecycle already describes this behavior with the sibling condition. Line 399 has the same restated sentence.

+... (`below_collected_funds`). A discount that brings a partially paid bill's balance to zero settles the bill; see [Settlement and completion](../architecture/order-lifecycle.md#settlement-and-completion). Audited as `order_discount_applied`. |Apply the same change to the item-discount row and to the applyDiscount row at line 399.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Exact-balance auto-settlement skips the kitchen-delivery gate.
isNowPaid uses only paid_amount and the balance. When it is true, the handler sets payment_status = 'paid'. Then completeExactBalanceSettlement sets the order to completed and frees the table. Nothing checks checkKitchenDeliveryStatus.
Trigger, with require_kitchen_delivered_before_settlement on:
- The cashier takes a partial payment.
- The cashier applies a discount equal to the remaining balance while items are still
pending,preparing, orready.
Result: the bill settles and the order completes with no manager PIN. PATCH /:id/status would return 400/403 for the same transition. The order-lifecycle doc says the gate requires a PIN for this.
The repository already enforces this contract elsewhere. syncUnpaidBillsForOrder (lines 2198-2205) marks a zero-balance bill paid only when checkKitchenDeliveryStatus(...).allowed is true.
The same gap exists in these locations:
- The order-discount and item-discount callers in
main/routes/orders.ts(lines 3429 and 3876). - The new zero-balance retry branch in
applyPaymentBatch(lines 3270-3297). This branch completes the order before the kitchen check at line 3298 runs.
Fix: gate exact-balance settlement on kitchen status. When the gate blocks, leave the bill at partial with balance = 0. A later payment call then hits the normal gate and PIN flow.

const isBillNowPaid =
billPaidAmount > 0 &&
newBillBalance === 0 &&
isKitchenDeliverySatisfied(db, existingBill.order_id, existingBill.id);In applyPaymentBatch, move the bill.payment_status === 'paid' && prepared.length === 0 order-completion branch after the checkKitchenDeliveryStatus call. Another option is to return the bill there without completing the order.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Remove the request-arrival-order assumption from the concurrent replay tests.
Replays 4, 5, and 6 start requests with Promise.all on separate HTTP connections. The assertions require the request written first to claim the in-flight slot:
- Replay 4 expects
pinPayB('9999') to return 200 as the waiter. - Replays 5 and 6 expect the
'9999'request to be the claimant that returns 403.
The arrival order on the server is not guaranteed. Suppose the '1111' request arrives first in Replay 5. It claims the slot and succeeds. The '9999' request then waits and gets 200, so resA.status === 403 fails. In Replay 4, the reversed order gives pinPayB a 403, and the test fails. The suite runs in npm test, so this causes random CI failures.
Make the assertions independent of order. Every request with a valid PIN must return 200. The '9999' request may return 403 or 200. The table must hold exactly one payment line. To keep the exact "owner rejects, then waiter recovers" scenario, start the '9999' request first and delay the next request until the attempt is registered. A short delay is enough, because the owner awaits bcrypt.
🧪 Example for Replay 5
- const [resA, resB] = await Promise.all([reqA, reqB]);
-
- assertEqualOrThrow(resA.status, 403, 'Owner attempt with invalid PIN returns 403');
+ const [resA, resB] = await Promise.all([reqA, reqB]);
+
+ assertOrThrow(
+ resA.status === 403 || resA.status === 200,
+ 'Invalid-PIN attempt is rejected or joins the valid in-flight attempt',
+ );
assertEqualOrThrow(resB.status, 200, 'Waiter with valid PIN succeeds after owner rejection');🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Gate exact-balance discount auto-settlement on kitchen delivery status
What Changed
payment_exceeds_balance, while allowing zero-balance payment completion on already-paid bills to succeed idempotently.Risk Assessment
✅ Low: The change is well-bounded, cleanly enforces the kitchen delivery status gate on exact-balance settlement across all discount and payment routes, rejects positive tenders on zero-balance bills, preserves audit logging, and includes comprehensive regression tests.
Testing
Drove 8 live end-to-end product scenarios over HTTP sockets against the real running FloCafe server along with targeted regression test suites, confirming that exact-balance discount auto-settlement is properly gated on kitchen delivery status across bill, order, item, and payment endpoints with zero failures.
Evidence: Live Product Validation Report
# Live Product Validation: Exact-Balance Settlement Gated on Kitchen Delivery Status All 8 derived scenarios were driven against the real running FloCafe standalone server over live HTTP network connections. - Kitchen delivery gate correctly blocks auto-settlement when kitchen items are pending/preparing unless overridden by a valid manager PIN. - Zero-balance settlement retry on gated bills is rejected with HTTP 409 kitchen_undelivered. - Positive payment tender on zero-balance bills is rejected with HTTP 400 payment_exceeds_balance. - Exact-balance discounts auto-settle cleanly when items are served or when manager override PIN is provided. - Sibling bill topology and below_collected_funds guards remain fully enforced.Evidence: Live Product Validation JSON Results
