Whats Changed

Fuel metering

Stores can now opt into fuel metering which allows you to limit execution:

val store = store(StoreConfig(meterFuel = true))
addFuel(store, 100_000)

Fuel is consumed at every function entry and loop iteration. Execution traps with FuelExhausted when it runs out.

Fuel can be added, inspected and reset using addFuel, remainingFuel and resetFuel.

Unmetered stores compile no fuel checks and are unaffected.

Interrupting running calls

Stores can also be made interruptible:

val store = store(StoreConfig(interruptible = true))
interrupt(store)

interrupt is safe to call from another thread. The running call traps with Interrupted at its next function entry or loop iteration. Similar to fuel metering interruption checks are added at compile time only if the store is opted in and thus has no affect on runtimes which do not explicitly request it.

Approximate JVM CoreMark overhead was 4.6% for fuel, 4.0% for interruption and 6.7% when both were enabled.

Gradle plugin 3.1.0

Chasm 2.1.0 ships alongside version 3.1.0-2.1.0 of the Gradle plugin:
