fix: the defects the restructuring reviews found, each with a test - #358
Reviews of the move-only restructuring PRs (#352, #353, #354) turned up defects that already existed in the code those PRs only moved. They were deferred so the moves stayed pure. Each one is fixed here, with a test that fails without its fix.
Fixes
1. A repeated genre broke a whole scan batch (#352 review)
track_genre keys on (track_id, genre_id). A file that named one genre twice failed on that key. So did two spellings that canonicalisation folds into one (Rock; Rock, Rock; rock).
During a scan, the error rolled back the whole apply_catalog_tracks batch, so every other file in that batch stayed out of the library.
During a correction, PATCH /api/v2/tracks/{id} with "genres": ["Jazz", "Jazz"] answered 503.
Fix: both inserts (storage/catalog/apply.rs, storage/catalog/overrides.rs) now use ON CONFLICT (track_id, genre_id) DO NOTHING, as track_participant already does.
Tests:
catalog::tags::a_repeated_genre_is_one_genre_and_spoils_no_batch applies one batch of three files (Rock; Rock, Rock; rock, Pop). All three must land, with one genre each.
The corrections test in native_api::corrections now patches ["Jazz", "Jazz", "jazz"] and expects one genre.
2. A scan's progress stream never ended (#353 review)
ScanManager::spawn added one broadcast sender per scan, and nothing ever removed it. As a result:
the map grew by one entry per scan for the life of the process;
/api/v2/scans/{id}/events never ended. It stayed open on keep-alives for a watcher who arrived after the last progress, or who watched a job that published nothing (a library deleted before its scan ran).
Fix: the sender is dropped once the job is over, whichever way it ended. Live watchers read what was sent and then see the channel close. A late watcher gets the snapshot and the end.
Test:scanner::scheduling::a_finished_scan_s_event_stream_ends reads the whole SSE body of a finished scan within a deadline.
3. A cleared playlist comment came back on other devices (#354 review)
When clear.comment is set, the UPDATE stores NULL, whatever comment came with the request. The sync journal payload carried comment.or(current.comment) instead: the old comment, or the new one sent beside the clear. Devices mirroring from the journal kept a comment the server had deleted.
Fix: the payload now carries what the statement stored.
Test:native_api::playlists::a_cleared_comment_reaches_the_journal_as_cleared covers both cases: a clear on its own, and a clear sent with a comment.
4. The smart-playlist sort test never checked direction (#354 review)
the_sort_codes_match_the_statement checked each code's column but never ASC or DESC. Two terms swapped in smart_order_terms! would have reversed a sort with no signal.
Fix: the test now reads the direction of each of the 20 terms.
5. The upload sweep could delete a file that was just committed (#354 review)
final_file_is_gone asked its two guards one after the other: is a track using the file (claimed), and is another session on the same hash (contested)? A commit on the same hash inserts the track and deletes its session in one transaction. If that commit landed between the two reads, they answered "no track yet" and then "no session any more", and the sweep removed the new track's file.
Fix: both guards are now one EXISTS … OR EXISTS … statement, read against one state of the database.
Name duplication, fixed alongside: the sweep also rebuilt the staging (<session>.part) and final (<hash>.<ext>) file names by hand. They are now free functions in services/uploads/mod.rs, used by both the transfer and the sweep, so the two cannot drift apart.
Tests: the existing uploads::sweeps guard tests cover this. Disabling either half of the combined statement makes its test fail.
Not covered: the interleaving itself cannot be reproduced on demand, so no test hits that exact window.
Inversions
Each fix was broken in a way that still compiles, its test was rerun, and the code was restored:
track_genre keys on (track_id, genre_id), and a file naming one genre twice, or in two spellings canonicalisation folds together (Rock; rock), inserted the repeat and failed on that key. On a scan the failure rolled back the whole apply_catalog_tracks batch, keeping every other file of it out of the library; on a correction it refused the edit with a 503. Both inserts now ignore a pair already written, as track_participant does.

…ts files once
Read one after the other, the guards could straddle a commit on the same hash, whose transaction inserts the track and deletes its session together: no track yet, then no session any more, and the sweep deleted the file of the track just committed. They are now one statement over one state. The staging and final file names the sweep looks under are the same functions the transfer writes with, so the two cannot drift apart.

Walkthrough
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Layer / File(s)
Summary

Security review details
Security Blast Radius
observed — The sensitive cleanup outcome is deletion of a managed final file that different members uploading the same hash may share. The changed guard retains library-scoped predicates: an exact relative-path track match or another session for the same hash, excluding the session being swept.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The inspected controls remain outside the changed logic: scan events require authentication and a user-scoped scan lookup before subscription; upload commit resolves the caller-owned session, current membership role, expiry, and upload setting before proceeding, then recomputes the file hash before final placement. The PR does not modify these checks.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Expired-session cleanup retains its existing recovery ordering: it takes the session lock, handles final and staging files before deleting the row, treats missing files as success, and preserves the session when filesystem cleanup fails. Successful upload commit inserts or updates the track and deletes its session in one transaction, providing the ownership handoff recognized by the new combined guard.

…service
The test sits in the native_api target, so it now creates the playlist with POST /api/v2/playlists and updates it with PATCH, sending clear: ["comment"], which puts the request's mapping onto PlaylistClear under test as well.

… song's genres
CodeQL read the assertion message, which formatted the track's genre list, as logging data derived from the catalogue. The count and the case-insensitive name check say the same thing without it.
