What and why

Adds the recommendation-only response DTO for the per-recommendation Archera comparison (#799 R2, PR2 of the plan). BuildRecommendationComparison projects the vendor comparison and line items, runs MatchRecommendation, and renders only the matched row: one current offer plus its vendor-linked candidates.

  • Carries the requested recommendation ID, association status and reason, stored amount provenance, a separate economic status, fetched_at, null currency with the existing currency note, a null comparable delta, and the disclosures.
  • Native fields carry explicit names and units. Candidate native duration, plan and family stay null.
  • No source account, org ID, plan totals, deltas, guarantees or default USD. An unmatched result carries no figures.
  • Decimals are exact or null; an unrepresentable decimal returns ErrUnrepresentable. A matched result with no vendor row is a fixed error.
  • Candidates are paired with associations through a new vendorEntries helper (also used by vendorAlternatives), so indexes stay aligned and the current offer is never an alternative.
  • Reuses Decimal, CleanString and the mapper financials helpers; never calls BuildComparison.

Tests (synthetic fixtures, no real Archera account)

Distinct monthly/upfront/selected/native/lease values per field; very precise decimals; zero vs null; candidate mismatch; unrepresentable current and candidate; unmatched (source, ambiguous) with no figures; unrelated rows not leaking; hostile vendor string sanitized; input not mutated; current offer in the candidate list (fails with the filter removed).

Mutations (synthetic fixtures, scratch overlay, none in the tree)

20 mutants across every field mapping, the status/provenance/fetched_at/premium/ID rules and index alignment: 20 killed, 0 survived. One extra fail-before probe (drop the IsCurrent filter) fails the new test. Null currency and delta have no assignment to mutate; asserted by Nil checks.

Verification

GOWORK=off: go test -race ./internal/archera/, go vet ./..., go build ./..., gofmt, gocyclo <= 10, pre-commit on the staged files.

Refs #799

Stack: base is #1056 (feat/799-archera-line-item-selection), which stacks on #1054. Retarget after those merge.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Recommendation comparisons can match a stored recommendation to an insurance offer and show relevant vendor alternatives.
    • Comparisons include status and disclosure details. When a recommendation cannot be reliably matched, figures are omitted rather than presented as confirmed.
    • Matching accounts for offer details such as payment options, term, region, and cloud account, and avoids listing the current offer as an alternative.
    • Comparison amounts are shown only when they can be represented precisely; invalid or unsupported recommendation details are not treated as reliable matches.

📝 Walkthrough

The change adds typed recommendation identities and matching, projects comparison data into those identities, and builds a recommendation comparison DTO with offer and candidate details for associated matches.

Changes: Recommendation comparison

Layer / File(s) Summary
Stored identity and resource matching
internal/archera/recommendation_projection.go, internal/archera/recommendation_match.go, internal/archera/recommendation_projection_test.go, internal/archera/recommendation_match_test.go
Stored recommendation records are validated and projected into identities with exact hourly amounts. Matching selects a unique line item and uses typed statuses and reasons.
Comparison contract projection
internal/archera/recommendation_contract.go, internal/archera/recommendation_alternatives.go, internal/archera/recommendation_contract_test.go, internal/archera/recommendation_alternatives_test.go
Comparison rows and line items are mapped to identities. Current offers are excluded from alternatives, and candidate associations use typed statuses.
Recommendation comparison DTO
internal/archera/recommendation_dto.go, internal/archera/recommendation_dto_test.go
The builder returns match metadata without figures when a recommendation is not resource-associated. For associated matches, it renders the current offer and candidate alternatives, with errors for missing rows or unrepresentable amounts.

Independent review at 46c82ec

Verdict: no blocking or major findings. Two minor findings, neither required. Scope is the #1058 diff against its merge-base, f27a848.

Findings

  1. Minor, recommendation_dto.go:63 (EconomicStatus: ReasonIdentityUnproven for every unmatched result): the value is safe, but it reads as a cause. A result unmatched because of ambiguous_line_items or comparison_basis_unproven still reports economic_status: identity_unproven. The specific cause is in reason, so nothing is lost. If the label should be literal, use a distinct "unavailable" value. As written it is acceptable if the UI keys off status and reason.
  2. Process note: feat(archera): build the recommendation comparison response with exact decimals and null currency #1058 branches from f27a848, but its base branch is now at 80ee82c (the two test-only commits). The tree CI sees after a rebase differs from what I ran. Rebase onto 80ee82c and re-run the suite. I did not re-review those two commits' interaction because they only add tests to recommendation_contract_test.go, which this PR also edits.

Checked against the plan, the OpenAPI and the code

  • Null currency, comparable delta and premium: Currency and ComparableDelta are never set, so they are nil (JSON null), and there is no default USD. PremiumIncluded is always true, with currency_note and both disclosures always present, matched or not. Asserted in the field-mapping test, and premium_incl is killed.
  • No leakage: the DTO has no source account, org ID, plan ID, hypotheticals, totals or delta_vs_current. PlanID is used for matching only, and lease_menu_item_id is not emitted. The wire test asserts source account, org ID, a plan total, the provider offering ID and "hypotheticals" are absent. Unrelated rows are ignored, and an unrepresentable number on a non-matched row does not error.
  • Unmatched: Current is nil, Candidates is [], and no vendor figure is serialised. amount_provenance is the empty string, not null; a harmless inconsistency.
  • Exact decimals: all figures go through Decimal, and a non-terminating value returns ErrUnrepresentable with a nil DTO.
  • Candidate alignment: vendorEntries is the single filter. Both vendorAlternatives (used by ProjectContract, so by the matcher's associations) and the DTO's figure lookup call it. The same row is used, because findRow is case-insensitive and comparisonIndex rejects duplicate rows. A current-offer copy inserted anywhere in candidates is dropped. entries[i] cannot be out of range, since both slices have equal length.
  • Native fields on candidates: native_* are nil on candidate figures, asserted. Current native fields come from the matched line item: duration seconds, plan type and instance family. They are set only for the matched item.
  • Units and names: hourly_selected_commitment ($/hour for savings plans, per OfferComparisonEntry.selected_amount), monthly_730h_* (730-hour rates, per commitment_financials_monthly_rate), upfront_one_time_cost (one-time, "NOT a rate") and effective_contract_term (lease lock-in term, per contract_term). JSON tags are snake_case.
  • Sanitization: offer ID, provider, commitment type, contract term, payment option and native strings all go through CleanString or cleanPtr. The hostile-string test covers bidi, newline, HTML and the 256-byte cap, and verifies the input is unchanged.
  • Size and complexity: recommendation_dto.go is 138 lines, with gocyclo at most 9 (nothing over 9 reported). go vet is clean.

Mutation results (15 mutants, scratch copy, each reverted)

All 15 killed: figure index fixed to 0, native duration, native plan type (swapped), native family, effective term (nil and raw), lease flag, hourly selected, upfront, monthly block, premium_included, unmatched economic status, figure gate for unavailable candidates, alt offer-ID sanitization and payment option.

Local verification (synthetic fixtures built through the real insurance decoders, no real vendor data)

GOWORK=off go test -race ./internal/archera/ passes at 46c82ec. go vet ./internal/archera is clean.

This is a review verdict only, not an approval or merge.

Rebased onto #1056's head 80ee82ca, which adds only test commits. git range-diff f27a848e..46c82ec6 80ee82ca..df66be15 gives 1: 46c82ec6 = 1: df66be15, so the commit is identical and the independent verdict at 46c82ec carries over. GOWORK=off go test -race ./internal/archera/ passes at df66be1 (158 tests). Minor finding 1 stays as is: the reason field carries the specific cause, and economic_status is only ever identity_unproven for unmatched results, which is accurate because no economic comparison is possible without a proven identity.

Independent review verdict: BLOCKING at df66be1 (lint gate only; the DTO itself is correct)

Reviewer: a fresh Claude agent (Sonnet 5.5, high effort), not the author, given a cold brief. It reviewed this PR's own commit (46c82ec6, which is identical to df66be15 by git range-diff). Coordinator: claude-cc-reviewer.

Blocking (gate)

golangci-lint v2.10.1 reports 5 new issues. --new-from-rev=80ee82ca confirms that none come from #1056. CI's Lint Code job will fail once this PR targets main.

  • internal/archera/recommendation_dto_test.go:166 and :168: govet shadow. items shadows the variable at :150, and err shadows the one at :153.
  • internal/archera/recommendation_dto_test.go:227 and :236: staticcheck ST1018. A string literal contains a raw U+202E character; write it as the ‮ escape instead.
  • internal/archera/recommendation_contract.go:42: prealloc. var out []CandidateIdentity should be preallocated.

Repro: GOWORK=off GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.9 go run github.com/golangci/golangci-lint/v2/cmd/golangci-lint@v2.10.1 run ./internal/archera/...

What was verified (clean)

  • Exact decimals. Decimal() (dto.go:34-56) is pure big.Rat/big.Int. It uses the exact finite-decimal test (only factors 2 and 5) and FloatString at the exact scale.
    • 1/3 returns ErrUnrepresentable, and the whole build fails.
    • There is no float64 anywhere on the path.
    • The tests cover a value with 29 or more decimals, a value of 1e-24, and the difference between zero and null.
  • Currency is always null. Nothing in the offers or the match carries a currency, so nothing can be mixed or defaulted to USD.
  • Field mapping. HourlySelectedCommitment comes from SelectedAmount (recommendation_dto.go:119). The financial fields map 1:1, and the tests give each field a distinct value. The native duration, plan and family come only from the matched line item (:97-104), and there is no savings arithmetic.
  • Statuses and reasons pass through from the match unchanged. When nothing matches, Current is nil and Candidates is empty (:77-79), so no figures leak. vendorEntries is shared with vendorAlternatives, so the indexes stay aligned and the current offer is excluded.
  • No panics. A nil comparison and a matched result with no row both return errors.
  • JSON. Pointers marshal as null, there is no omitempty, and the tags are snake_case. The wire output was checked for leaked internal strings.
  • Mutation probes. All 8 were killed: current/candidate swap, unavailable guard removed, forced USD, unmatched early return removed, premium flag flipped, upfront cost taken from the wrong field, and two variants of net/gross savings swapped.

Local verification (fixture-based)

go build ./... and go vet ./... pass, and go test -race ./internal/archera/... -count=1 passes 156 tests.

Notes

Next: fix the 5 lint issues as a new commit. The same reviewer will then re-check the delta.

Preallocate out in vendorEntries.

The enabled prealloc linter can report this unallocated append loop. The ordinary CI workflow runs pinned golangci-lint v2.10.1 over the root module and exits nonzero when lint fails, so this can block CI.
