Describe the Bug
Sunshine starts successfully, detects the display, detects H.264 and HEVC VideoToolbox encoders, and opens the web UI normally. However, Sunshine crashes immediately when attempting to start streaming from Moonlight.
The terminal exits with:
zsh: trace trap /Applications/Sunshine.app/Contents/MacOS/sunshine
Environment
Sunshine Version: 2026.611.125516
Commit: ea88d71c29123a7f799aa77ee615351872c936e6
Host OS: macOS 27 beta
Hardware: Mac Studio M1 Max
RAM: 32 GB
Client: Moonlight on Windows
Host is headless (no physical monitor attached)
Display Configuration
Using a virtual display only.
Sunshine correctly detects the display:
Detected display: Virtual 16:9 (id: 7) connected: true
Configuring selected display (7) to stream
The display is visible in macOS System Settings > Displays.
Encoder Detection
Sunshine successfully detects:
Found H.264 encoder: h264_videotoolbox [videotoolbox]
Found HEVC encoder: hevc_videotoolbox [videotoolbox]
AV1 fails to initialize, which is expected:
Error: Couldn't open [av1_videotoolbox]
Reproduction Steps
Start Sunshine.
Verify Sunshine web UI loads normally.
Pair Moonlight client.
Attempt to start a stream.
Sunshine immediately crashes.
