and the queued handler must not overwrite a later start. Also tag each `Start`
command with a generation and have `start_row` compare it so a delayed start

- Around line 214-224: Update Machine::tick_host to set self.host to
HostBtState::Off when handling PeripheralEvent::Failed, so the next tick retries
starting the beacon; retain the existing failure logging.

immediately after storing the GATT application in `self.app`, before awaiting

range validation, and return `NmIoError::Failed` if the value is missing, has
the wrong type, or is out of range; do not silently default to zero.
- Around line 616-618: Update the `login` function to derive the profile owner
from the real Unix uid of the process, then resolve that uid to a username; do
not use `$USER` or default to `root`. Ensure the resulting name matches the Unix
identity of the caller that owns the D-Bus connection.
- Around line 232-240: Update the `denied` helper in `is_permission_denied` to
recognize names ending in `PermissionDenied`, so NetworkManager permission
refusals map to `AddError::PermissionDenied`. Preserve the existing
`AccessDenied` handling.

Disconnect active exchanges when Bluetooth fails.
PeripheralEvent::Failed can arrive while the host is advertising. The current assignment drops exchanges without disconnecting its devices. Linux emits this event after a refused renewal while retaining the old advertisement, so connected devices can remain attached with no active exchange.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
login() cannot resolve users that are not in /etc/passwd.
Invariant: the name in connection.permissions is the caller's user name as NetworkManager resolves it.
NetworkManager looks the name up through NSS with getpwnam. This code reads only /etc/passwd. A user who comes from LDAP, SSSD or systemd-homed has no line there. For that user, login() writes the numeric uid, which gives user:1000:. NetworkManager treats that as a user named "1000". That user does not exist, so it is not the caller. Under settings.modify.own, NetworkManager then refuses the profile, and every host and join fails as AddError::Failed.
Fix: resolve the name through NSS. Call getpwuid_r on the real uid, for example with nix::unistd::User::from_uid. Use the /etc/passwd read only as a fallback.

A failed setup does not write the leg's log.
Required behavior: the evidence directory holds linux-leg.log for every run where the leg started.
write_leg_log comes after steps.ready(&leg).await? and steps.walk(...).await?. If ready or walk fails, the ? skips the write. The log is then missing in exactly the failure cases where it is needed. Write the log after the setup, before adapter_off, whatever the setup returns. Keep the setup error over a log-write error.

--linux-peer with --app tauri gets past validation.
Required behavior: a run mode that needs the dioxus peer panel is rejected before the run starts.
The Tauri check at Lines 2389-2394 covers --peer-serial and --bluetooth only. The linux walk clicks the same panel controls, such as "Host a hotspot", "Join the hotspot" and "Join the nearby host". Resynchronize state after a lagged event stream.
The events() receiver can return RecvError::Lagged, and the current loop exits on that error. The pump then stops updating LegState, so later waits can poll stale linked or nearby lists and time out.
Do not fix this with continue alone. The dropped delta events cannot be recovered from the receiver. Resynchronize both lists from authoritative client state before resuming, or report a fatal error instead of exposing stale state.

Result<_, String> violates the error rule.
handle_query and handle_action return Result<serde_json::Value, String>. The path instructions require a Result error to be an enum that derives thiserror::Error, and they flag Result<_, String>. Define one leg command error enum. It needs variants for an unknown command, a missing field, an unparseable payload, a missing certificate or listener, and a wrapped client error. Convert the enum to its Display text only in handle_command, where the JSON error field is written.
As per path instructions: "a Result error is an enum deriving thiserror::Error. Flag Box<dyn Error>, Result<_, String>".

Replace the String error types in handle_query and handle_action with a shared
leg command error enum deriving thiserror::Error; include variants for unknown
commands, missing fields, unparseable payloads, missing certificates or
listeners, and wrapped client errors. Keep errors typed through command handling
and convert them to display text only in handle_command when populating the JSON
error field.

Linux can now host a peer's hotspot through NetworkManager, join one, and advertise the Bluetooth beacon through BlueZ, with the btleplug central finding hosts. NetworkManager is reached over zbus and the peripheral over
bluer, behindLinuxHotspotBackendandLinuxBluetoothBackend, and every row of the hotspot and Bluetooth tables runs against a fake of that module. Decisions 29 to 33 in the plan cover the choices.connetto-android-proof --linux-peer --every-joinproves it against a phone. A headless client on the Linux machine stands in for the second phone and drives the same paths as the demo. On pippo's AX200 with the Galaxy M52 it passed all six joins in one unattended run, each side hosting once and the other joining by the beacon, the pasted payload and the typed form.Linux clients could not host or join peer hotspots, and Linux peers could not advertise Bluetooth beacons. This left Linux out of the peer connection flow.
The change adds NetworkManager and BlueZ support so Linux peers can host or join hotspots and advertise beacons. It also adds a headless proof that exercises six joins across beacon, payload, and form methods. The supplied plan reports that the proof passed on an AX200 system with a Galaxy M52.
