A failed first multipath validation could outlive its validation budget when established paths intentionally have no idle timeout. Add an independent deadline using three times the larger initial/live validated-path PTO, close through existing PATH_ABANDON/CID retirement, and retain last-path protection. Address migration keeps its separate timer and previous-route fallback; successful validation cancels the new timer, with standard qlog attribution.
Validation so far: the original engine regression failed; 429 engine tests, qlog compilation, the complete default/Noq network suite and strict all-target Clippy passed on macOS. Real Iroh and asymmetric late HTTP/WebSocket relay fixtures continue the original stream and validate the restored standby within five seconds. These real fixtures also pass the original implementation and establish preserved behavior, not a causal performance improvement. Full Linux/CI qualification and the dated report are pending.
