Second of four PRs for the music player: the dialog, still local only.

  • /glowup music, or o: Player on the Music tab, opens a focused pane (glowup-music) with a 20x10 cover, the track, the seek bar Client, the transport, Open Spotify (o, busctl and macOS) and Copy link (c). macOS also gets a volume bar; Spotify 1.2.74 on Linux ignored an MPRIS Volume write, so Linux has none.
  • Claude Code refuses open({ focus }) while the glowup pane holds the keys, so Player closes the glowup pane first and the dialog's close reopens it with the keys. /glowup music leaves the glowup pane alone, and running it again while the player is open closes it, as /glowup pane does.
  • The layout follows what the engine grants: side by side from 80 columns (the dock gives about 88), the 20x10 cover from 20 body rows, 8x4 from 10 (inline gives 13 to 20), none below 10. State lines wrap in the 30-column left column instead of truncating.
  • Toasts are held while the dialog shows, so a copy failure is reported inside it. A failed open from the tab brings the glowup pane back.
  • The right column shows the connect pitch; the Connect button arrives with the Web API in the next PR.
  • Also fixes pet-wiring's strip test, which failed between 23:00 and 04:59 local because Clawd's nightcap adds two rows (it failed on main at night too).

Checked live in tmux against Spotify 1.2.74 on Linux, with playback paused throughout: Spotify closed, the dialog opened from the command and from the tab at 150 columns, copy link, Escape back to the pane with the keys, and inline at 100 columns with the 8x4 cover. Not checked: macOS volume.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added /glowup music to open a focused Spotify player, with cover art, track details, seek bar, and playback controls.
    • Open the player from the Music tab with the o shortcut. Press Esc or run the command again to close it and return to the previous pane.
    • The player adapts to available space; macOS also displays a volume bar.
  • Documentation
    • Updated help and command guidance with the new player command and controls.

Walkthrough

Adds a focused Spotify music-player dialog with track information, playback controls, seeking, cover art, and capability-dependent volume controls. The dialog can open from a command or the Music tab, and its lifecycle coordinates with the Glowup pane.

Changes

Music Player

Layer / File(s) Summary
Player capabilities and rendering
hooks/music/reader.ts, hooks/musicplayer.tsx, test/music-reader.test.ts, test/musicplayer.test.ts, docs/layout.md
Adds volume capability reporting for the macOS backend and a responsive player renderer. The renderer sizes cover art by available rows, displays track details and controls, and supports optional custom seek and volume bars. The tests cover layout, capabilities, controls, and music states. The layout documentation removes prior playback-reading and Windows-support descriptions.
Command, pane, and dialog integration
hooks/command.ts, hooks/help.ts, hooks/pane.tsx, hooks/register.tsx, test/command.test.ts, test/export.test.ts, test/pane.test.ts, test/musicplayer-wiring.test.ts, docs/commands.md, docs/layout.md, CHANGELOG.md, .docket/ledger.jsonl
Adds /glowup music and the Music-tab Player button. The dialog handles pane handoff and restoration, music polling, cover fetching, and copy-link feedback. Tests cover command behavior, dialog interactions, and failure handling. Documentation and the changelog describe the command and player controls.

Pet Strip Height Test

Layer / File(s) Summary
Pet strip height assertion
test/pet-wiring.test.ts
Updates the test to check Clawd’s expected strip height by local time and the robot’s height in the same assertion.

The player may fail to open without handling a pane-close refusal, and a time-boundary test may fail intermittently. These are bounded issues to fix or explicitly accept before merging.

I’m a rabbit, hopping by,
A music pane now greets the eye.
Cover, seek, and buttons glow,
Tracks and melodies can flow.
When the player’s time is through,
I hop back to the pane with you.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Handle a rejected $.ui.close in openPlayer so the pane state stays consistent.

await $.ui.close({ id: 'glowup' }) on Line 602 is not guarded. If it rejects, openPlayer throws and the command fails. The pane is still open, so state is safe. The second $.ui.close on Line 600 has the same exposure. This is low risk, but the pane-origin path calls it through void openPlayer($, true) on Line 1373. A rejection there becomes an unhandled promise rejection. Add a .catch at the call site.

Proposed fix
-onPlayer: () => void openPlayer($, true) }
+onPlayer: () => void openPlayer($, true).catch((err: unknown) => $.ui.log(`music player open failed: ${err instanceof Error ? err.message : String(err)}`, { to: 'debug' })) }

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Avoid a wall-clock boundary race in this assertion.

If the test crosses 23:00 or 05:00 local time between the Clawd strip() call at Line 262 and this clock read, clawd reflects the earlier nightcap state but the expected value uses the later hour. The test can fail intermittently at those boundaries. Freeze the time used by the render and assertion, or retry if the measurement spans either boundary.
