What does this change?

Disables Wi-Fi power saving while a cloud session is active and restores the previous setting afterward. Uses nl80211 directly from Zig.

Addresses #11.

How did you test it?

Tested on Miyoo Flip running SpruceOS 4.3.3. Confirmed the radio stops entering low-power mode during sessions and the original setting returns after cancellation, failure and graceful shutdown. Already-disabled power saving stays off.

All 453 tests and the ARM64 build passed. The 11 new tests also passed on the Flip.

Live gameplay remains unverified: both this build and unchanged v0.3.1 hit OfferTimeout before receiving video.

Summary by cubic

Disables Wi-Fi power saving during cloud sessions and restores the previous setting afterward, and reworks GeForce NOW session setup so server-assigned WebRTC seats are used reliably. Addresses #11.

Wi-Fi power save

  • Talks to nl80211 directly from Zig; no external tools required.
  • Only disables power saving when it was previously enabled; if it was already off, it stays off.
  • Skips restoration if an interface was removed or replaced, and retries a failed rollback at cleanup.

GeForce NOW WebRTC sessions

  • Session requests now identify as a browser WebRTC client so NVIDIA provisions a WebRTC stream.
  • Peer assignment is acknowledged before the offer is accepted, and server rejection fails fast instead of becoming an offer timeout.
  • A ready poll that omits routing keeps the seat, media endpoint, and ICE servers learned while queuing.
  • Adds 11 Wi-Fi tests plus a WebSocket fake covering assignment, routing retention, and malformed replies; full suite and ARM64 build pass.

Written for commit 8fdb3cb. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • On Linux, Wi-Fi power saving is temporarily disabled on connected wireless interfaces during a session. Previously enabled settings are restored when the session ends, and replacement interfaces are left unchanged.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved GeForce NOW session connection handling, including signaling address selection and preservation of valid routing details across session updates.
    • Improved WebRTC signaling reliability by handling peer assignments and acknowledgments, ignoring local message echoes, and rejecting mismatched sessions.
    • Browser connection requests now use browser and WebRTC client identifiers.

Walkthrough

The change adds Linux Wi-Fi power-save management during game sessions. It also updates GeForce NOW client identification, session routing, and signaling message handling, with host tests for the new and changed behavior.

Changes

Linux Wi-Fi power-save session handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Netlink requests and replies
src/platform/linux/wifi_power_save.zig
Adds nl80211 discovery, generic-netlink request construction, and reply parsing. Tests cover message encoding, reply matching, and error handling.
Guard ownership and restoration
src/platform/linux/wifi_power_save.zig
Adds Guard.begin and Guard.end to record, roll back, and restore power-save changes when interface identity matches. Tests cover restoration and interface replacement cases.
Release session integration
src/app/release.zig, build.zig
Release begins the guard before session creation and ends it during cleanup. It installs the stop-signal handler for SIGHUP. The host test configuration includes the guard tests.

GeForce NOW session and signaling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Session request and routing behavior
src/provider/geforce_now/cloudmatch_protocol.zig, src/provider/geforce_now/session_client.zig, tests/gfn_http_fake.zig
Requests identify the client as browser/WebRTC. Session parsing constructs and validates signaling URLs, and matching poll responses retain eligible routing data. Polling rejects a response with a different session ID.
Signaling message processing
src/provider/geforce_now/signaling_protocol.zig, src/provider/geforce_now/signaling_client.zig, src/provider/geforce_now/webrtc_session.zig, build.zig
The signaling client tracks assignments, acknowledgements, and heartbeats, and limits each poll to 64 frames. The decoder rejects unsupported non-null errors. Offer timeouts log signaling state. Host tests cover message handling and timeout diagnostics.
Test transport support
tests/gfn_http_fake.zig, tests/gfn_websocket_fake.zig, build.zig
The HTTP fake records request headers. The WebSocket fake supplies configurable frames, captures sent messages, and gates an offer on an assignment acknowledgement.

Explanation

The title "Disable Wi-Fi power saving during streaming" matches the main change in the changeset. The new wifi_power_save.zig module disables Wi-Fi power save through generic netlink while a session runs, and release.zig starts and ends that guard around session creation and cleanup. The title is short, specific, and does not list files.

  • In wifi_power_save.zig, if the rollback fails, the interface is not recorded for later restoration, so power save can remain disabled. Track the interface even when rollback fails.
  • In release.zig, a panic or SIGHUP can leave power save disabled, and the next launch may not take ownership to restore it. Add a recovery path beyond normal shutdown handling.

  • A malformed usage-14 entry can make parseSession fail for the entire session, even though other malformed entries are skipped. Skip the bad entry and continue parsing.
  • wifi_power_save.zig closes the netlink socket after one restore pass, so entries that still fail to restore are left pending at shutdown. Keep the socket open and retry while entries remain.
  • signaling_client.zig drops echoed peer_msg frames before acknowledging them, so an echo with an ackid may never receive an ACK. Acknowledge the frame before dropping it.
  • parseSession drops usage-14 records with a zero or out-of-range side-band port before checking resourcePath, which can reject a valid signaling URL whose authority provides the port. Read the URL port before discarding the record.

Outside diff Retry pending Wi-Fi restoration before closing the guard.

847-847: 🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Retry pending Wi-Fi restoration before closing the guard.

If restoration fails with a transient error, Guard.end() keeps the pending record but closes its netlink connection. resetSession() then returns to the catalog, and the later Release.close() call cannot retry because the connection is already null. The interface can remain with power saving disabled after exit. Make final cleanup retry pending ownership before discarding the connection or state. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Update the Wi-Fi cleanup flow at self.wifi.end so pending restoration is retried
before the netlink connection or ownership state is discarded. Ensure Guard.end

Minor · Stability & Availability · Quick win

Skip an invalid usage-14 entry instead of failing the whole session parse.

buildSignalingUrl can now return error.InvalidSignalingEndpoint. Triggers include a ws:// resource path, embedded credentials, port 0 in the URL, or a relative path that contains ://. The try on this line propagates that error out of parseSession, so one bad connectionInfo entry aborts the session even when a later entry or the sessionControlInfo fallback is valid.

The impact differs by call path:

  • Session creation: createSession fails after the POST succeeded. start has no Session, so stop cannot delete the server-side session. The seat stays allocated until it times out.
  • Polling: waitUntilReady returns the parse error and aborts the wait.

Skip the rejected candidate so the existing candidate selection and the control fallback still run. The defer cleanups for ip and path run on continue.

Review comment at @src/provider/geforce_now/cloudmatch_protocol.zig at line 361:
In parseSession, handle error.InvalidSignalingEndpoint from buildSignalingUrl by
skipping the current connectionInfo candidate so later candidates and the
sessionControlInfo fallback can be considered; continue propagating other errors
and preserve the existing deferred cleanup of ip and path.

Return -2 for a configured close frame in the fake.

The real transport returns -2 when a frame carries the close bit. The fake returns 1 for every queued frame, so the client skips the close frame and returns null on the next empty read. A test cannot exercise the close-frame SignalingClosed path with the current fake. The existing closed-flag test covers only an empty queue.

Return -2 from go_websocket_receive when next.flags has the close bit set. Use the same bit value as GO_WEBSOCKET_CLOSE in the C header. Keep the frame fields populated before the return, as the real transport does.

Review comment at @tests/gfn_websocket_fake.zig at line 84:
Update go_websocket_receive to return -2 when next.flags contains the close bit,
using the bit value defined by GO_WEBSOCKET_CLOSE in the C header; keep
populating the frame fields before this return and preserve the existing return
value for other frames.
