in a .NET 4.x C# project to dynamically execute .NET 9 code?

Thank you for sharing this useful project.

I would like to know whether it is possible to use the westwind.script component in a .NET 4.x C# project to dynamically execute .NET 9 code.

My system environment:

• .NET 4.8.0 runtime
• .NET 9.0 runtime

By using the following code, I am able to execute .NET 9 code under PowerShell 5.1 (.NET 4.5).

You can generate .NET 9 code based on the runtime libraries you import.

But there's no mechanism provided to host the .NET 9 runtime under .NET Framework. This library is designed to compile code and execute it in the running process which uses the runtime that is currently loaded. However, as mentioned the compiler can create .NET 9/10 assemblies no problem.

You can use a separate library to like wwDotnetBridge (not meant for .NET but FoxPro, but would work with .NET too more easily actually) to bootstrap whatever version of .NET that you want to use and then load your compiled assembly into that runtime and execute. Bit roundabout but potentially a route that would work.

FWIW, I don't think pwsh is running .NET 4.5. - that's running the latest .net core based Powershell and it's updated with Windows and that's why that works as is.
