What this changes

Thesis rewrite rounds on the tip of proposal/integrated-2026-09-16 (not main).

Round 1: Chapter 1 introduction and 1.1 (previewed as before and after, approved by the researcher)

Openers that name their subject, the mechanism behind Tokopedia's movement, US$ at the World Bank 2024 rate, a plainer "In brief". Researcher's style added to HANDOFF.md and the thesis README.md.

Round 2: Chapter 3 first draft (ch3_framework.md)

Terms table, the measures and the identity D = (1 + g(V)) × (m1 − m0) / m0, H1, H2, the entry test, further analyses, tests table.

Round 3: Chapter 2 first draft (ch2_literature.md)

On the proposal's four sections as the spine, lightened, plus the survey-count strand the entry test needs. All 41 citations traced to REFERENCES_WORKING.md.

Round 4: seam pass across Chapters 1–3

Fixes applied as clusters and re-read in context (baseline b9dd114): fixed vocabulary, the H2 and entry-test spine, order moves, one set of numbers, repeats removed, Objectives 2 and 3 given a home in Chapter 4.

Round 5: second line-by-line read, eleven fixes

Details in the last section of EDIT_HISTORY.md.

Round 6: Chapter 4 first draft (ch4_data_methods.md)

Platform data and the two groups (Table 4.1), the H1 test, tracing revenue movements, the BPS files and the entry test (Table 4.2), channels, records and reach, the comparison with national and payment figures (Table 4.3), market values, traceability. No results are stated; they stay in Chapter 5. Built only from repository records. Open decisions (market values are not promised in Chapters 1 or 3; length; the appendix it points to) are in EDIT_HISTORY.md and HANDOFF.md.

Scope

No new hypothesis, measure or concept; the 1.1 ambition paragraph, the research question and H1/H2 wording are unchanged. Nothing touches main, research data, or the frozen Part 1–7 files. No licensed data. Figure 3.1 not yet drawn; bibliography not yet built.

Check

Banned words none; no back-reference openers; vocabulary sweep clean; every number recomputed or traced to a named table or script. Chapter 4: about 3,100 words including tables, no sentence over 30 words.

… brief"; researcher's style recorded in handoff

Applied after a before/after preview the researcher approved:
- Paragraphs 2-5 open on their own subject instead of a back-reference; one sentence
added to paragraph 2 so "the same split" in paragraph 3 has a referent.
- Paragraph 4 now says how the movement happened (a platform's share can change;
Tokopedia: about 60 percent of the rise in revenue reflected smaller discounts and incentives).
- Paragraph 7 in US$ at the World Bank 2024 rate (Rp15,855 per US$).
- "In brief": both figures overstated growth; H2 stated plainly; approved wording
  "not explained by first-time entry".
- The 1.1 ambition paragraph is deliberately unchanged.

Handoff: "Readability before safety", the before/after review loop, one currency and
mechanism rules added to the thesis README and HANDOFF.md (sections 9-11); rounds 15-19
and two researcher concerns logged in EDIT_HISTORY.md.

…test

Built on the proposal's and the oral deck's order (deck slides 8-9). Terms in one
table, the identity D = (1 + g(V)) x (m1 - m0) / m0 with the Tokopedia example, the
two jobs of the wedge, H1, H2, the entry test as a test of what "more businesses"
means, further analyses, and a tests table. Status row added to the thesis README
and a Chapter 3 section to EDIT_HISTORY.md. Awaiting the researcher's reading.

…r 3 terms table

Written on the proposal's four sections as the spine, lightened, with the survey-count
strand the entry test needs. Every citation traced to REFERENCES_WORKING.md and used
within its use limit. Status rows, a Chapter 2 section in EDIT_HISTORY.md and the
handoff status updated. In Chapter 3 the terms table no longer states that accounting
rules always deduct incentives from revenue.

…pine, order, numbers

Applied as clusters, each rebuilt as whole paragraphs and re-read in context, because
the line-level edits collided (entry-test naming, the H2 wording against the Chapter 3
opening, bridges that depended on a paragraph swap, wedge against gap, section 1.1 length).

- Vocabulary fixed in the thesis README (wedge, transaction value, figure and measure,
count of online sellers, entry test, chain only in Chapter 3).
- Chapter 2 open questions now include H2's; Chapter 3 opens from them and gives each
link of the chain a condition; the entry test is named in 1.1 and 1.3.
- Order: Chapter 1 paragraph 4, Chapter 2 section 2.2, Chapter 3 wedge paragraphs.
- One set of numbers (US$ at the World Bank 2024 rate; Tokopedia 53, 9, 60, 68, 62;
127.4 step). Repeats removed. Objectives 2 and 3 given a stated home in Chapter 4.
- "In brief" now answers the size half of the question. 1.2 and 1.3 rebuilt to match.
- Records: EDIT_HISTORY section on the pass, HANDOFF status and Chapter 4 obligations.

Applied together and re-read with neighbouring paragraphs. Two of the problems had been
introduced by the seam pass (the connective before the count of online sellers in the
Chapter 3 opening, and the dropped stand-in line). Others: the entry-test wording in 1.1,
the wedge paragraph split into level and movement, the driver's fare example, the reason
smaller discounts raise the share, 1.2 pronouns, the join into 2.1's third paragraph, the
2.2 opening sentence, the 2.4 summary, and the labelled arithmetic in the Tokopedia example.
Section 1.1 is now 25 words over its baseline (down from 28).

Map the three gap questions to the framework, use the Chapter 2
concerns where they apply (comparison rules, survey breaks, recall
direction, returners), add the revenue split, the H2 identity and a
further-analyses section with the market-value predictions. Paragraphs
consolidated to one point each; sections renumbered 3.1 to 3.6.

Chapter 2 hands over without repeating Chapter 3's map; Chapter 3 links

take-rate split, and drops a repeated paragraph; roadmap and one

points to Chapter 3's rules and equations; sections reordered to match
the results; survey-file names made consistent (also in Chapter 3's
