General Moodle and Echo360 Course Scrapers

These standalone browser snippets export course materials that your signed-in account is already allowed to access.

  • moodle_course_exporter.js — selected Moodle resources.
  • echo360_transcript_exporter.js — selected Echo360/EchoVideo transcripts.

Both scripts create the ZIP locally in your browser. They do not upload credentials or course content, bypass permissions, or download streamed video/audio.

Run a script with DevTools Snippets

Use Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

  1. Open the relevant course page and sign in normally.
  2. Press F12 and open Sources.
  3. Open Snippets in the left sidebar. It may be under >>.
  4. Click New snippet and paste the full .js file.
  5. Save with Ctrl+S.
  6. Run with Ctrl+Enter, or right-click the snippet and choose Run.

Using Sources → Snippets is more reliable than pasting a large script into the Console.

Moodle exporter

  1. Open the main Moodle course page.
  2. Expand all sections or use Open all, then wait for loading to finish.
  3. Run moodle_course_exporter.js.
  4. Search and select the resources to export.
  5. Check the detected course name and correct it when needed.
  6. Click Export selected resources.

Output name:

<Course Name>_Moodle_Export.zip

The ZIP can contain files, Folder contents, cleaned Page HTML, cleaned Book chapters, URL shortcut files, 00_RESOURCE_MANIFEST.csv, and an export README. Resources are grouped by Moodle section.

External sites are retained as .url shortcuts rather than copied. For a very large course, export fewer sections at a time to avoid browser memory limits.

Echo360 transcript exporter

  1. Open the course's Echo360/EchoVideo class list in its own tab.
  2. Do not run the script from inside one recording.
  3. Wait for the class list to load.
  4. Run echo360_transcript_exporter.js.
  5. Search and select the recordings to export.
  6. Check the detected course name and correct it when needed.
  7. Click Export selected transcripts.

Output name:

<Course Name>_Echo360_Transcripts.zip

The ZIP can contain:

  • 00_ALL_TRANSCRIPTS.txt — all successful transcripts combined;
  • Individual/ — one cleaned timestamped TXT file per recording;
  • Original_VTT/ — original WebVTT files where available;
  • 00_TRANSCRIPT_MANIFEST.csv — dates, methods, paths, URLs, and failures;
  • 00_FAILED_OR_MISSING_TRANSCRIPTS.txt — recordings needing manual review.

The script first tries to retrieve transcript data already available in Echo360. When that fails, it falls back to extracting the visible transcript panel.

Troubleshooting

No Moodle resources found: confirm that you are on the course content page, expand hidden sections, wait for loading, and rerun the snippet.

No Echo360 recordings found: confirm that you are on the class-list page. If the list is virtualised, scroll through it once and rerun the snippet.

Some items fail: inspect the CSV manifest and missing-transcripts file. Restricted, expired, external, unusually large, or unsupported resources may require manual download.

Wrong ZIP name: edit the course name in the selection window before starting the export.

Automated transcripts can misrecognise specialised terminology, formulas, names, symbols, and numbers. Verify important details against official course materials.

Use these scripts only for materials you are authorised to access and handle exports according to your institution's rules.
