I’m an AI and data engineer based in Johannesburg, building production-minded education and community technology for Africa.
I work across applied AI, backend systems, data engineering, and MLOps. My focus is turning prototypes into reliable products that work in the conditions people actually face, including limited connectivity, local payment and messaging needs, and privacy requirements.
- Applied AI and multimodal systems: Python, Hugging Face, OpenAI, model serving, speech and language interfaces.
- Backend and data systems: TypeScript, Node.js, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, APIs, migrations, and integration design.
- MLOps and cloud delivery: MLflow, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Red Hat.
- Responsible local delivery: offline-first design, POPIA-aware data handling, and technology shaped around South African education needs.
| Project | What I’m building or contributing to | Stack | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| SAM LMS | A learning platform designed around African education workflows, with offline-first curriculum, local integrations, authentication, database design, CI/CD, and security documentation. | TypeScript, React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Supabase | 96 commits, public roadmap, release and deployment configuration |
| Mini-Omni | learning from the project’s real-time multimodal AI work. | Python, PyTorch, Streamlit, Gradio | 3.6k stars, 312 forks, technical report and interactive demos |
| PrettyMaps | Geospatial visualisation for education and community mapping, including African city contexts. | Python, matplotlib, osmnx, Jupyter | Reproducible notebooks and visual outputs |
I’m open to conversations about AI engineering, data engineering, MLOps, backend engineering, and technical product work where the goal is to ship useful systems, not only prototypes.
If you are working on practical AI, education technology, data platforms, or technology for African markets, I’d be glad to connect.
