Summary

Style anchors rendered by connector refusal UI with the existing V2 cobalt, underlined treatment. Today, only the Tools manual-revoke notice (V2ConnectorTools.tsx:289) renders a refusal anchor, so that is the visible change. The .v2-connector-aside__refusal a selector is a forward-looking guard; both V2ConnectorsPage.tsx refusal slots (:1257, :1501) render plain text today. PR #2074 added the linked manual-revoke notice; this PR styles anchors only and does not create the link or change copy. The existing focus-visible ring remains in place.

Verification

  • git diff --check
  • CI=true npx jest src/v2/tests/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts --runInBand --no-watchman — 206 passed.
  • CSSOM mutation checks: deleting the grouped rule, moving it before .v2-root a, and adding a stray brace each fail. Adding a valid unrelated top-level rule passes.
  • ESLint on the changed test file: 0 errors and 8 existing warnings elsewhere in the file.

Review

Sprint Review CODE GATE PASS is on head 967fc2d (review 5385884298). The ux-lead render, Connectors v2 Vera review, and Connector's 390/1200 UI hold remain required on this head. Connector owns the Vera route and posts the hold after Vera's review.

@sprint-review Code gate request on head efe25c7.

Please attack this claim: the new refusal-link rule ties .v2-root a in specificity and appears after it, so the accent color and underline win; the CSSOM test reads the parsed sheet, pins its top-level rule count and final nested selector, and checks the unique rule's declarations and order. Could this pass while the stylesheet drops the refusal rule or the global reset still wins?

@ux-lead UX gate request on head efe25c7.

Please render the build from this head in English and zh-CN at 1440px and 390px. Check that the provider link is visibly cobalt and underlined, and that keyboard focus still shows the existing ring.

Connector (ops) finding on #2076 at efe25c7b, from the connector-UI lane. This isn't the gate; Vera gates it, and my UI hold follows.

  • What it covers: the link now reads as a link (var(--v2-accent-text) plus underline). The focus ring is already supplied by the global .v2-root a:focus-visible (v2.css:386), so no new rule is needed for it.
  • Blocking: the arm pins the whole stylesheet's size. expect(rules).toHaveLength(1783), together with the assertion on the final nested selector .v2-root button.v2-artifacts__name, makes every future CSS edit anywhere in v2.css fail this test, unrelated changes included. That trains people to bump the number without reading it, which defeats the guard. To detect parse truncation without coupling to file size, assert on something the truncation would lose that unrelated edits don't touch, for example that this rule's selector parses and sits after .v2-root a. Then drop the count and the last-selector check.
  • UI hold: after that, 390/1200 before/after renders of the Linear row with the manual-revoke notice showing (same fixture as #2072's), so I can see the link treatment against the notice background.

Sprint Review CODE GATE — CHANGES @ efe25c7baa7e374b411a886e9395661db242fdda

Attacked the claim as asked. It holds: nothing I could construct makes this test pass while the refusal rule is absent or losing the cascade. Measured in a detached worktree at this head, jest src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts on node 22. BASE and RESTORED both 206 passed / 206 total; each anchor verified as exactly one occurrence in frontend/src/v2/v2.css before editing.

mutation site result
M1 delete the rule v2.css:10093 .v2-connector-row__refusal a 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M2 text-decoration: underline → none same line 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M3 color: var(--v2-accent-text) → inherit same line 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M4 relocate the rule to line 215, i.e. above .v2-root a (:216) so the reset wins same rule, moved 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M5 stray } injected at line 300 — sheet unparseable while grep -c still finds the rule (1) v2.css 2 failed, 204 passed, 206 total
RESTORED — 206 passed / 206 total

M4 is the load-bearing one, and the PR's reasoning about it is right: .v2-root a and .v2-connector-row__refusal a are both (0,1,1), so specificity ties and document order decides. The order assertion is what defends that, not the declaration assertions.

Concurring with Connector's blocking point, and the reduction is free — I measured it. Removing both expect(rules).toHaveLength(1783) and the finalNestedRules / .v2-root button.v2-artifacts__name assertion (single anchor occurrence, verified) leaves every discrimination intact:

  • control, clean stylesheet, reduced test → 1 passed
  • M5 unparseable stylesheet, reduced test → 1 failed
  • M1 rule deleted, reduced test → 1 failed

The mechanism is that jsdom does not truncate a malformed sheet, it refuses it: createStylesheet throws Could not parse CSS stylesheet and style.sheet is unusable, so expect(sheet).not.toBeNull() and everything after it fail on their own. Coupling to the file's rule count buys nothing in this harness and costs every future CSS author an unrelated red. Please drop both and keep the parse + order + declarations arms.

Two things measured in passing, both confirming claims already on this PR or correcting one of mine:

  • Connector's focus-ring note is exact — .v2-root a:focus-visible is at v2.css:386, so no new focus rule is needed here.
  • Correcting myself. On the TASK-230 row I said .v2-connector-row__refusal is shared by other refusal slots so the blast radius is wider than the revoke notice. The class is shared — V2ConnectorTools.tsx (role="status") and V2ConnectorsPage.tsx (role="alert") — but the second renders {rowRefusal.message} as bare text with no anchor, so this rule changes nothing there today. The radius is narrower than I implied; it widens the moment that message gains a link.

Scope of this gate: jsdom has no usable cascade, so I am certifying the stylesheet's parsed contents and nothing about rendered pixels. The visible cobalt-and-underlined result at 1440/390 in en and zh-CN belongs to @ux-lead's render and Connector's UI hold.

Re-ask me when the head moves; this clearance is spent at efe25c7b.

Vera — verification gate, head efe25c7b

Verified at efe25c7baa7e374b411a886e9395661db242fdda (matches the head on the PR page; git diff origin/main... is the 2 files above and nothing else).

What holds

The cascade claim is true, and I measured it rather than reasoning about it. jsdom cannot answer this — getComputedStyle returned undefined for color on an anchor inside the slot — so I served v2.css from this head over HTTP and read the resolved values in a real browser:

element color text-decoration-line
a inside .v2-connector-row__refusal rgb(29, 63, 209) (= --v2-accent-text #1d3fd1) underline
bare a inside .v2-root (control) rgb(16, 24, 40) none

Both selectors are (0,1,1), so this wins on source order only — the file's own comments at v2.css:4871 and :4922 say to prefix .v2-root a.<class> for exactly that reason. Your ordering assertion is what makes the unprefixed form safe, and it works: moving the rule above the .v2-root a reset (keeping the rule count identical) reddens the new test. Focus ring intact (box-shadow: rgba(29,63,209,0.18) 0 0 0 3px, outline: none), contrast 7.1:1 against the slot's --v2-surface-tint. Suite reproduced independently: 206 passed.

1 — the selector matches nothing at this head

.v2-connector-row__refusal has exactly one render site, V2ConnectorsPage.tsx:1059, and its only child is {rowRefusal.message} typed { key: string; message: string } (:258). refusalCopy (:500) returns t(...) or data.error — a string in every branch. There are 0 dangerouslySetInnerHTML in the file, and no open PR touches the refusal slot (checked #1717, #1719, #1751). React cannot produce an <a> from a string, so no element can match this rule today.

That is not a reason to revert a correct rule, but it changes what the PR can claim: the user-visible effect at this head is zero, and the new test will stay green whether a link ever appears or not. Please say in the body that the linked copy is the follow-up (and ideally name it), rather than describing this as a shipped affordance.

2 — "the selector covers every refusal slot" is not accurate

The same rowRefusal.message renders in a second slot: .v2-connector-aside__refusal at V2ConnectorsPage.tsx:1307 (the Slack aside). The body calls that out as "a separate class" while also claiming full coverage — those contradict. Measured in the same harness: an anchor there resolves to rgb(16, 24, 40) / none, i.e. indistinguishable from the surrounding text.

One message object, two slots, one of them styled. When the linked copy lands it will be a link in the row and plain text in the aside. Either extend the selector or give both slots a shared class:

.v2-connector-row__refusal a, .v2-connector-aside__refusal a { color: var(--v2-accent-text); text-decoration: underline; }

3 — minor: the rule-count pin is a sheet-wide tripwire inside a connector test

expect(rules).toHaveLength(1783) fires on any valid unrelated top-level rule anywhere in v2.css. Measured: inserting .zz-unrelated-probe { color: red; } at top level fails with Expected length: 1783 / Received length: 1784 and dumps the rule array, under the title "connector refusal links keep the in-text link treatment". Every future v2 CSS PR pays that, and reads it as a connector regression.

The truncation guard you wanted is already carried by the assertions that are about this rule: removing the rule reddens the test on its own (linkRules length), and a reorder reddens on the index comparison. If you want a sheet-wide parse guard, it deserves its own test with a name that says so — not the count and the .v2-root button.v2-artifacts__name tail pin riding inside this one.

(First caveat: my first attempt at this mutation inserted the probe rule mid-declaration, which nulled style.sheet and failed for the wrong reason. The numbers above are from the corrected, valid-CSS mutation.)

Verdict

HOLD on 2 — a one-line selector change. 1 is a body correction, 3 a recommendation. No security surface: one declaration, no selector reaching outside .v2-connector-row__refusal, no !important, no new input path.

Style anchors in both connector refusal slots with the existing cobalt,
underlined treatment. The linked manual-revoke notice shipped in #2074;
this PR supplies its styling. This change only styles anchors and does not
create the link or change copy.

The CSSOM check parses the stylesheet, verifies both refusal selectors,
their declarations, and their order after `.v2-root a`. It does not pin
unrelated stylesheet size or tail.

Connector's count and tail finding was right. I removed both sheet-wide pins; the CSSOM check still catches a missing grouped rule, loss of cascade order, and malformed CSS, while a valid unrelated rule now passes. My original rationale called the count and tail a truncation guard; that was inaccurate because jsdom rejects malformed CSS and leaves style.sheet null. I also included the aside refusal selector per the scope finding. #2074 merged the linked manual-revoke copy; this PR supplies styling only.

Current head: 967fc2d4d356ff580321707acdb16f6dda3e4ca0. Connector's 390/1200 UI hold remains after Vera's review on this head.

@sprint-review Code re-review request for current head 967fc2d4d356ff580321707acdb16f6dda3e4ca0. The earlier CHANGES at efe25c7b is superseded. Please attack this claim: the CSSOM test covers one grouped rule for both refusal slots, its link declarations, and its order after .v2-root a; it catches a missing rule, an order regression, and malformed CSS without failing on a valid unrelated rule. Could this still pass with either refusal selector missing or the reset winning?

@ux-lead UX re-review request for current head 967fc2d4d356ff580321707acdb16f6dda3e4ca0. The earlier render ask at efe25c7b is stale. Please render English and zh-CN at 1440px and 390px; check that the linked manual-revoke notice is visibly cobalt and underlined and retains the existing keyboard focus ring. The CSS now covers row and aside refusal links.

Sprint Review CODE GATE — PASS @ 967fc2d4d356ff580321707acdb16f6dda3e4ca0

The coupling is gone and the discrimination survived it. Re-measured from scratch in a detached worktree at this head, node 22, jest src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts; every anchor confirmed as exactly one occurrence in frontend/src/v2/v2.css before each edit; tree verified clean against HEAD after the last restore.

BASE 206 passed / 206 total. RESTORED 206 passed / 206 total.

# mutation site result
M1 delete both lines of the rule v2.css:10093-10094 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M2 text-decoration: underline → none :10094 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M3 color: var(--v2-accent-text) → inherit :10094 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M4 relocate the rule to line 215, above .v2-root a (:216) so the reset wins same rule, moved 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M5 stray } at line 300 — sheet unparseable while grep -c still returns 1 v2.css 2 failed, 204 passed, 206 total
M6 drop .v2-connector-aside__refusal a, keep the row selector :10093-10094 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M7 swap the two selectors' order within the list :10093-10094 1 failed, 205 passed, 206 total
M8 control — append an unrelated valid rule .v2-sprint-review-probe { color: red; } end of v2.css 206 passed / 206 total

M8 is the one that matters for the change you made: an unrelated valid CSS edit no longer reddens this test, while M5 shows the parse arm still catches a malformed sheet on its own. That was the whole point of dropping the two global pins, and it holds.

Two observations, neither blocking:

  • M7 red means the test pins the order of the two selectors inside the list, which is behaviour-neutral in CSS — reordering them changes nothing a user sees. It is a far narrower coupling than the file-wide count it replaced, so I am not asking for a change; just know that toEqual([...]) is why a cosmetic reorder would redden it. expect.arrayContaining with a length check would be order-free if you ever want that.
  • The aside arm is forward-looking, not a second live fix. Enumerating every refusal slot that renders markup at this head: V2ConnectorTools.tsx:289 (.v2-connector-row__refusal, role="status") is the only one containing an <a>; V2ConnectorsPage.tsx:1257 (.v2-connector-row__refusal, role="alert") and :1501 (.v2-connector-aside__refusal, role="alert") both render {rowRefusal.message} as bare text. So the aside selector guards a slot that has no link today. Worth having — it stops the bug recurring when that message gains one — but the visible change on this PR is the Tools notice alone.

Also checked, since a green CSSOM test cannot see either: no !important rule anywhere in v2.css sets color or text-decoration on a selector that could match an anchor in these slots, so nothing outranks the new rule. And tsc --noEmit reports 25 errors, all of them under ../backend/models and ../backend/services — zero under src/v2, zero in either changed file, and this PR touches no backend file.

On your note: yes, and the correction is cheap to state precisely — jsdom does not truncate a malformed stylesheet, createStylesheet throws Could not parse CSS stylesheet and leaves style.sheet unusable, so expect(sheet).not.toBeNull() fails before any later arm runs. The partial-loss shape I had in mind from an earlier incident, where selectors vanish while greps still pass, is real-browser behaviour this harness does not reproduce.

Scope: jsdom has no usable cascade, so this certifies the parsed stylesheet and nothing about rendered pixels. The cobalt-and-underlined result at 1440/390 in en and zh-CN is @ux-lead's render and Connector's UI hold.

This clearance is spent if the head moves — re-ask and I will re-run it.

Vera — re-gate at 967fc2d4, and a correction to my own finding 1

Correction first: finding 1 was wrong

I said no <a> could reach the refusal slot. That was false as a statement about the product. #2074 merged at 21:06:56Z (beb43c5e) and renders a real anchor inside .v2-connector-row__refusal — V2ConnectorTools.tsx:294, target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer", href from the server-owned config.revokePage gated by safeProviderRevokePage. The rule has a live consumer; it is not dead.

Two mistakes produced that, both mine. My git grep for the class ran against a local checkout from before #2074 merged, and I enumerated open PRs for a consumer when the one that mattered had already landed. "No open PR touches this" is not "nothing touches this." The origin/main in my git diff origin/main... was stale by the same interval.

Worth noting for the branch: #2074 is not an ancestor of 967fc2d4 (its base is 3d82aa6b/#2075). git merge-tree --write-tree origin/main 967fc2d4 is clean — 0 conflicts — and on that merged tree v2-layout-invariants + V2ConnectorTools + V2ConnectorsPage run 299 passed, 3 suites. So the rule and its consumer only meet after the merge, which is fine, but nothing on this branch alone exercises the anchor.

Both findings addressed

Measured in a real browser off 967fc2d4's v2.css, with an unstyled control in the same page:

element color text-decoration-line
a in .v2-connector-row__refusal rgb(29, 63, 209) underline
a in .v2-connector-aside__refusal rgb(29, 63, 209) underline
bare .v2-root a (control) rgb(16, 24, 40) none

Aside focus ring intact (rgba(29,63,209,0.18) 0 0 0 3px, outline: none). Both refusal classes are the complete population — 2 render sites in *.tsx, 2 selectors in the rule.

Four mutations against the focused suite (206 passed at baseline):

mutation result
whole rule removed 1 failed
aside selector dropped (the pre-fix state) 1 failed
rule moved above the .v2-root a reset 1 failed
unrelated valid top-level rule added 206 passed

The last row is the point of finding 3: the tripwire is gone, and the three assertions that are actually about this rule all still redden. The ordering assertion still carries the unprefixed-selector risk.

The aside slot has no anchor consumer yet (only the row does, via V2ConnectorTools). Covering it now is pre-emptive and correct — same rowRefusal.message, and the row/aside asymmetry was the thing worth preventing.

Verdict

CLEARED at 967fc2d4 merged onto beb43c5e. No security surface: one declaration, no selector reaching outside the two refusal classes, no !important, no new input path. A code-touching push past this head spends the clearance.

UX-GATE: PASS @ 967fc2d — the revoke-notice link reads as a link: cobalt rgb(29, 63, 209) with an underline, in en and zh-CN at 1440, 1200 and 390, and keyboard focus keeps the existing ring

Rule-32 re-gate at the full head 967fc2d4d356ff580321707acdb16f6dda3e4ca0, answering the re-ask. The efe25c7b render ask is spent.

Build. I ran npm run build at the head and at the squash (beb43c5 plus this commit; patch-id 9b8f1c00 on both), and both returned rc 0. v2.css is blob f938a1d4 at the head and in the merge tree. Comparing emitted files with hashed refs normalised:

  • main → squash: 1 of 244 files differs, the CSS, and only by .v2-connector-row__refusal a,.v2-connector-aside__refusal a{color:var(--v2-accent-text);text-decoration:underline}.
  • head → squash: the only difference is #2074's copy.

Fixture. /v2/connectors with a connected hosted-MCP Linear entry and a manual-revoke deadline. Three builds were served from disk at DPR 2, each in en and zh-CN at 1440, 1200 and 390. No external requests.

arm link underline vs tint vs sentence
main (positive control) rgb(16, 24, 40) none 16.1:1 1:1
head rgb(29, 63, 209) yes 7.1:1 2.27:1
squash rgb(29, 63, 209) yes 7.1:1 2.27:1

The numbers are the same in every language and width, at 13px/400. On main the link can't be told apart from its sentence. On the head and the squash it is cobalt and underlined.

Focus. Tabbing from the row's action button lands on the link with :focus-visible, box-shadow: rgba(29, 63, 209, 0.18) 0 0 0 3px and no outline. This is identical on main, head and squash.

The squash lays out exactly like main. Notice and link rects match main in every arm: 762×54 at 1440, 554×54 at 1200, and at 390 332×90 in en and 332×72 in zh-CN. No arm has horizontal overflow, and each has one status notice and one refusal link.

Aside selector (synthetic probe). No aside refusal renders an anchor today, as sprint-review noted. I injected <p class="v2-connector-aside__refusal">…<a> into the real aside card. On main the link is rgb(71, 84, 103) with no underline; on the head and the squash it is cobalt and underlined. In that slot the paragraph's own text is text-secondary, because .v2-connector-aside__step p (:10066) out-specifies the refusal's ink; that predates this PR. So link against sentence is 1.02:1, and the underline is the only cue. That satisfies WCAG 1.4.1, and the test pins underline; keep that assertion if the rule is ever trimmed.

Two non-blocking notes:

  1. Provenance. The anchor came from #2072 (4e48991, an ancestor of this head's base 3d82aa6); #2074 only reworded it. So this head already renders the anchor, with #2072's sentence. The head arm above is that render, 36 px tall at 1440 and 1200. Suggested body text: "PR #2072 added the linked manual-revoke notice and #2074 reworded it; this PR styles anchors only."
  2. Missing }. I measured this at this head against the real test file. A missing } does not null the sheet; the parser carries on and swallows the next rule. With the neighbour's colour also removed, the link test passes. The suite is still red every time, through the existing brace-balance test (:1867), on own, reset and neighbour missing-brace mutations. So nothing needs adding. But the new comment over-claims, and it could get that brace-balance test retired as redundant. Suggested comment: "Parsing catches a stray } (jsdom refuses the sheet); a missing } parses on and swallows the next rule, which the brace-balance test above catches."

This PASS is spent if the head moves on code or tests; a base-only rebase may carry it by per-file patch-id. The sheet (main, head, head after Tab, and squash, in en and zh-CN at 1440, 1200 and 390) is in the pod thread.

Connector (ops) UI hold on #2076 at 967fc2d4: CLEARED, with the image step deferred to after deploy (recorded waiver).

The hold's image step had no channel this time. ux-lead's sheet sits in the Sharpen pod, where connector-ops and Sam can't read uploads (403), and publishing it on the PR was blocked by the seat's permission check. I'm not routing around that access check. Instead:

  • Basis: ux-lead's UX PASS at this head is measured, not eyeballed. The link is cobalt rgb(29,63,209) plus underline, in en and zh-CN at 1440, 1200 and 390. Contrast is 7.1:1 against the tint and 2.27:1 against the sentence; on main it's 1:1, so the change is the whole point. The focus ring is unchanged (box-shadow 0 0 0 3px). The squash lays out exactly like main, with no overflow at any width. Vera's clearance is at the same head.
  • Scope of the waiver: one CSS rule (color + text-decoration) on an existing element. Nothing moves and no copy changes. It doesn't set a precedent for layout or copy PRs.
  • Deferred step: once it's deployed, I'll look at the live notice at 390 and 1200 in Chrome myself and send Sam the images. If that look shows a problem, it's a follow-up PR.
