fix(board): archive finished task cards and complete the overall card (#1252)

Written-by: Dev-1
Owner: Dev-1
Reviewer: Reviewer
Fixes #1252
Tip SHA: 5b832b91f8ebdb1b7de782e87d40f35b24f6549d

What changed

  • core/src/host/tasks.js: the tasks read lists active work only — a card that is accepted, cancelled or failed leaves the list a board polls. { archive: true } is the same read including those rows; { archive: true, limit: N } returns the newest N finished rows by updatedAt (tiebreak createdAt) and no active rows, so the board's 15 s poll carries the slice and not the history while the default read keeps carrying the active work. limit is a number or nothing: a string, boolean or object is refused (bot/invalid) instead of coerced. A read without limit still returns every settled row on purpose, because it is the id-lookup and tooling path (statusOf, a Bot reading a settled row) — an id outside the newest page must stay readable.
  • The same file: new settleOverall(child) completes an overall group card when every child has ended, through the same transition/applyColumn write a person's move uses. It completes accepted (with progress: 100) when each child ended accepted or cancelled, and failed when any child ended failed — a failed part is not hidden behind a green overall card. It is called where a move lands on accepted (applyColumn), from task-accept-result, from task-cancel, and on the two other doors a child ends through — taskBotDeleted (deleting a Bot fails its open cards) and taskDecided (an owner's reject cancels the card that waited on the approval) — so neither path can leave the overall card working behind a child that already ended. An overall card already blocked or result-ready is left to its owner.
  • core/src/client/kanban.js: the board keeps an archive list from its second read and sorts it newest first by updatedAt (tiebreak createdAt) before cutting, renders boardTasksFor(tasks, archive) — active work plus the twenty newest finished cards — and moves a finished card off the active list at once in replace, before the next poll. A Bot board names its Bot in that read (tasks { botId, archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN }): the host spends the page's budget before the board can filter by ownerBotId, so an unfiltered page lets another Bot's newer cards empty this Done column. The default read stays unfiltered on purpose — it is active work, a superset the board filters locally without losing a card. Ordering by createdAt would drop exactly the card a member just finished, which has an old createdAt and a fresh updatedAt.
  • core/src/client/inbox.js: Group task board keeps hundreds of accepted cards; snapshot stays noisy after work is done #1252 made the default read active-only, but the Inbox is a second consumer that classifies finished and failed cards (inboxModel: failed → Needs you, accepted/cancelled → Done) and counts them in needsCount. The one shared useTasks hook behind the Inbox row and the dialog now asks tasks { archive: true } — the uncapped list — and publishes that, so those cards reach the badge and both groups again. The board's bounded second read is untouched.
  • docs/subsystems/core-client.md: the kanban.js row said the cap twice in one line (once for the read, once for the column); that is now one sentence that also says a Bot board names its Bot, and the archive read without limit staying uncapped is said once.

Red first

All of them were written before the fix and run red on the unfixed tree (node --import ./test/harness-resolve.mjs --test --test-name-pattern="1252" test/bot-tasks.test.js).

First round, the original #1252 behaviour:

a done card leaves the room board by default

true !== false
  expected: false
  actual: true
the overall card completes with its last child

'open' !== 'accepted'
  expected: 'accepted'
  actual: 'open'

Second round, after Security's INC on the previous tip: the failed child, the unbounded payload, and the oldest-first slice.

a failed child makes the overall card fail, not pass

+ 'accepted'
- 'failed'
the requested limit bounds the payload

200 !== 20
  expected: 20
  actual: 200
the column starts at the newest finished card

+ 'task-done-19'
- 'task-done-36'

Third round, Security's second INC: a busy room spent the whole budget on active rows.

the bounded archive carries finished rows only

false !== true
  expected: true
  actual: false

Fourth round, Reviewer2's INC on the previous tip: the two other doors a child ends through, and the Bot-scoped archive page. Each knife was cut on the 5385491f tree, the file restored from a copy, and the pair re-run green.

Knife 1 — delete settleOverall(task) from taskBotDeleted (core/src/host/tasks.js), which reddens #1252: deleting a child's Bot fails the overall card, read back from the archive:

a failed child closes the overall card as failed

'open' !== 'failed'
  expected: 'failed'
  actual: 'open'

Knife 2 — put the Bot board's archive read back to the unfiltered query (core/src/client/kanban.js), which reddens #1252: a Bot board asks the host for that Bot's archive, not the whole scope:

the archive read names the Bot
+ actual - expected

  {
    archive: true,
-   botId: 'a',
    limit: 20
  }

Restored: bot-tasks.test.js + kanban.test.js 20/20 green again.

Fifth round, Reviewer2's INC at 5385491f: the Inbox is a second consumer of tasks, and the active-only default cut its finished and failed cards off. The drive posts { archive: true } and asserts the settled rows reach the badge and the two groups; on the unfixed tree the read posted no body at all, so the fake host answered the active-only default and every assertion fell over:

the Inbox read asks for the settled rows

expected: 1
  actual: 0

The same run, measured before the assertions: posted null, badge "4" (the base count, unchanged), Done card null, Needs-you card null.

Reviewer finding 6415648677 (Verdict: INC at 86e9795) — answered at this tip

  • Item 1 — two terminal paths ended a child without settling the overall card. settleOverall(task) now runs directly after the terminal transition in both rt.taskDecided branches (the waiting-input branch and the blocked branch) and in rt.taskBotDeleted, with the continue / return save() kept and no second gate added. Proven by #1252: deleting a child's Bot fails the overall card, read back from the archive — child failed, parent failed, columnOf done, and the progress the card already carried (the failed branch only calls transition; progress: 100 is set on the accepted branch alone) — and by #1252: a rejected approval cancels the child and completes the overall card, read back — child cancelled, parent accepted, progress 100, columnOf done. Both read the parent back through tasks { archive: true } / { roomId, archive: true }, not through a return value.
  • Item 2 — the Bot-scoped page was cut before the botId filter. A Bot board now sends archiveQuery = { botId: scope.botId } with the archive read: { botId, archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN }; the group board keeps roomId, and the default read stays unfiltered. Proven by #1252: a Bot-scoped archive page is cut after the Bot filter (the Bot-scoped host page carries its own card while the unfiltered page does not) and by the client drive that captures the posted body as exactly { botId: 'a', archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN }.
  • Non-blocking, docs. The duplicated cap sentence in docs/subsystems/core-client.md is collapsed to the sentence that states the behaviour; the literal call syntax is gone.

Reviewer finding 6416140014 (Verdict: INC at 5385491f) — answered at this tip

  • Blocking — the Inbox stopped receiving finished and failed cards. The chain at 5385491f: core/src/client/inbox.js useTasks called actions?.tasks?.() with no body, core/src/client/index.js sent it as {}, and core/src/host/tasks.js answered the active-only default (archived ? rows : rows.filter(openTask)), while inboxModel classifies failed → Needs you and accepted/cancelled → Done and needsCount counts them. Fixed in the one shared hook: useTasks now sends { archive: true } and publishes the list it gets; the board's bounded second read is unchanged. Red at 5385491f is quoted under Red first, fifth round (expected: 1, actual: 0 — no body posted; badge unchanged at the snapshot count; both card lookups null). Green at this tip: the same test passes, core/test/inbox.test.js 27/27, and the assertion is the behaviour — failed lands in Needs you, accepted in Done, and the row badge counts the failed card.
  • Non-blocking — the bounded page is settled, the Done column keeps only accepted. Recorded as a decided residual under Decisions recorded, not omissions below: newer cancelled/failed rows can spend a scope's page budget and push an older Done card out of the twenty. Not changed at this tip, and the reason is written down there.
  • Non-blocking — the Bot board's default read is still unfiltered client-side. That read is the active list: unfiltered is a superset of the Bot's own rows and the board filters it in memory, so no card can be lost — a host-side cut is what made the archive read need botId, and that one sends it.
  • Non-blocking — the stale base line. The old sentence naming a main base that was only true at claim time is gone; the base history below is the real path to this tip.

Advisory rounds: none at this tip yet — Chief freezes before a PASS request. Superseded as evidence and kept as record: 6415907830 (Test) and 6415965572 (Security) at 5385491f; 6415574602 and 6415627981 at 86e9795; 6415419164 at bdf867b2; 6415205741 and 6415207539 at 150aeaa.

Why these files, and the base

main moved several times while this was built: the branch was cut at 99b1fab, hand-re-applied onto #1276's new card model (taskCard / BoardCardFrame), then rebased onto b4e1faa (#1284, which rewrote docs/subsystems/core-host.md, a file in this diff), 63f81f0 (#1278), ef5dae42 (#1291) and now e37f1f83 (#1296 and #1297, both landed after ef5dae42). The tip is therefore the merged tree: current main + this diff. #1297's delivery-board test in core/test/kanban.test.js was kept alongside this board's tests — the conflict was resolved by keeping both sides — and the board text still sits in ### Bot task board (#1058), with no contradiction of #1267's mid-turn-line subsection. At this tip the pull request is 19 files, +1007/−104, one commit on base e37f1f83.

  • core/src/host/tasks.js — the read contract, the bounded archive read, the overall-card completion, and the settle on every door a child ends through.
  • core/src/client/kanban.js — the archive read (Bot-scoped on a Bot board), newest-first ordering, the twenty-card column.
  • core/src/client/inbox.js — the one shared task load asks for the archive, so the Inbox keeps its Done and Needs-you cards.
  • core/client.js — generated by npm run build in core/, never edited by hand.
  • core/test/bot-tasks.test.js — the eight Group task board keeps hundreds of accepted cards; snapshot stays noisy after work is done #1252 host cases (active-only board and explicit archive; last child completes the overall card; a failed child fails it; the requested archive bound with the unbounded read still seeing every row; a busy room's bounded read carrying finished rows only, with the limit type refusals; a deleted Bot failing the overall card; a rejected approval cancelling the child and completing the overall card; a Bot-scoped page cut after the Bot filter) plus one compat read: the post-restart read of a finished card now asks for the archive. This is where the active-only/archive case lives, not core/test/tasks.test.js.
  • core/test/inbox.test.js — the Inbox drive: the read posts { archive: true }, a failed card lands in Needs you, an accepted card lands in Done, and the row badge counts the failed card. The shared harness keeps its no-op-effect stub for every other case; only this drive runs its effect.
  • core/test/tasks.test.js — only the statusOf helper changes: it reads { archive: true } (no limit) because it looks tasks up by id and some are finished.
  • core/test/kanban.test.js — the client fixture: 37 finished cards give a literal twenty-card column starting at the newest, the oldest is outside the slice, a card with an old createdAt and a fresh updatedAt leads the column, and a driven load asserts the posted body (Bot board botId, group roomId, default read unfiltered).
  • docs/subsystems/core-host.md — the read contract with and without limit, the bot/room filter before the cut, and when an overall card completes accepted or failed (owned page for tasks.js).
  • docs/subsystems/core-client.md — the board's two reads, the newest-first cut, a Bot board naming its Bot, and the uncapped id-lookup path; the duplicated cap sentence is merged (owned page for kanban.js).
  • changelog.d/1252-board-archive.changed.md — user-visible board and Inbox change.
  • patches/ds-bot/0008-client-bundle.patch and the patches/ds-bot/files/ mirrors — written by node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs generate from that same core/ tree; the generator's context-only rewrite of 0005, 0012 and 0014 was reverted, and check re-run green.

Decisions recorded, not omissions

  • The board's archive read is capped at the same limit as the column ({ ...query, archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN }, room-scoped for a group, { botId } for a Bot board, newest-settled first, finished rows only — the default read carries the active ones), so the poll carries the slice and not the history. The archive read without limit stays uncapped on purpose: it is the id-lookup and tooling path (statusOf, a Bot reading a settled row, and now the Inbox), not what the board polls.
  • The counts loop still runs over [...own, ...archive] unchanged, and no counts assertion moved: the finished-only page is what stops a card appearing in both lists and being counted twice.
  • A child's requester can complete the room's overall card: the settle path runs the same transition with no actor, so the card's status moves and the requester gate is not consulted. It is status-only — nothing is deleted, and the card's actors and history are kept.
  • The bounded page is settled, while the Done column keeps only accepted: twenty newer cancelled/failed rows in one scope can spend the page's budget and push an older Done card out of the column. Left as it is at this tip, deliberately: the page is the recent-activity slice ordered by updatedAt, and narrowing it to accepted would make a "newest finished" read lie about cancelled/failed work other callers read. An older card is still readable without limit, which stays uncapped on purpose.

Self-test: PASS at 150aeaa

Advisory only — no Verdict: line. Head 150aeaa (open, base b4e1faa9, 1 commit, 15 files +339/−90) when read before and after; tree 3b264dd3. Fresh checkout at that sha.

Ran: TZ=UTC npm run verify (exit 0) · the three touched test files at the tip · the tip's three test files grafted onto b4e1faa9 · my own product-path drive (track_tasks → task-update/task-cancel → tasks, plus formatRoomBoard and the built client bundle): tip 21/21, base 8 red · patch-mirror cmp.

1. The red is real, and I produced it twice

Tip's tests on base b4e1faa9 → bot-tasks 6/8, tasks 31/31, kanban 4/5:

not ok 7 - #1252: a room board lists active work only, and the archive is explicit
  error: |-
    a done card leaves the room board by default

    true !== false

not ok 8 - #1252: the last child completing completes the overall card instead of leaving it working
  error: |-
    the overall card completes with its last child

    'open' !== 'accepted'

The kanban red on base is boardTasksFor is not a function — a missing export, not a behaviour; the two above are the behavioural reds. My own drive on base agrees: a finished child stays in the active view (3 active), the overall card stays open with no column and no progress, the snapshot keeps the stale overall card, and cancelling the last child completes nothing.

2. The fix holds (my drive, tip 21/21)

  • A finished child leaves the default read and is in { archive: true }; the active read is empty once the last child finishes; the archive still holds all 3 rows — nothing deleted.
  • The overall card completes with its last child: accepted, columnOf done, progress 100, and the move recorded by: last child completed; cancelling the last child completes it the same way; an in-progress child keeps it open.
  • The Budget group-turn context and drive work from the board #1204 snapshot: an already-accepted child was already dropped there before this tip (room-context.js is untouched) — what this fix changes is that the overall card stops sitting open, so the snapshot goes from a stale overall line to ''.
  • tasks({ archive: true }) returning all rows while the default returns active work only, driven through the endpoint, and both track batches of live work stayed listed (26 active, uncapped).

3. Nothing loosened

No assertion line is removed anywhere in the diff (checked: 0 removed assert lines). The only three changed lines are call sites: one existing bot-tasks read gains archive: true (its assertions on status/progress/priority are untouched), the kanban import gains ARCHIVE_SHOWN, boardTasksFor, and tasks.test.js's statusOf helper gains { archive: true } so it can still read a settled row by id — no expectation moved. The new cases are additive: 5, 6 and 4 assertions.

4. Whole suite (my run, at this tree)

TZ=UTC npm run verify exit 0: core 1699/1699, social 525/525, tree 125/125, timeline 125/125, .github/scripts 508/508, interop 37/37, live-e2e 24/24, no not ok; core lint 66 warnings / 0 errors; arch-docs: OK (15 changed file(s)); ok ds-bot/ = Fei2411/DeepSeek-Bot@2b10c70 (tree 5834c00, v0.1.5), ok 10 patches apply cleanly in order, ok core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/. The five patches/ds-bot/files/... mirrors are byte-identical to their core/ counterparts.

5. Bounded, and it cannot drop live work

The cap is display-only: the client slices 20 archived cards into the Done column, and the active list is passed through untouched — with 25 live cards and 200 archived, boardTasksFor yields 25 + 20, all 25 live cards present. The host read is uncapped and deletes nothing; prune() is pre-existing and still protects active work. result-ready is not terminal in this filter (TERMINAL_MATCH = accepted/cancelled/failed), so a card waiting for its requester's acceptance stays in the default view — no live work is hidden. No INC.

Residual, not blocking: the archive read is unbounded — a room with 191 settled cards still ships 191 rows on every poll; the overflow is capped in the Done column, not in the payload (the issue's optional GC item is not in this PR).

The three cases you asked about, by name (all green at the tip)

  • core/test/bot-tasks.test.js — #1252: the last child completing completes the overall card instead of leaving it working ✓ (accepted, columnOf done, progress 100, 6 assertions).
  • core/test/kanban.test.js — #1252: a group board renders a bounded archive instead of every finished card ✓ (4 assertions; 37 archived → ARCHIVE_SHOWN in the column, newest first, 1 active kept).
  • core/test/tasks.test.js — no such case exists there. Its 31/31 passes, but its only change is the statusOf helper; the active-only + archive case is #1252: a room board lists active work only, and the archive is explicit in bot-tasks.test.js ✓ (5 assertions: done card absent by default, unfinished work still listed, archive still carries it, counts differ by exactly one).

Two things to know rather than act on: the kanban bound is asserted against the exported ARCHIVE_SHOWN (value 20) instead of a literal 20, so the slice relationship is pinned but the number itself would not redden if changed; and the payload residual above.

Not run: no live instance, no real DSH host service, no UI, no CI. Nothing on the branch was touched.

Self-test: INC at 150aeaaefc04c496be678403b3eb633e3d13c66a — the security surface is clean, but the bounded Done column takes the oldest 20 finished cards, not the newest, so the card a member just finished is the one that leaves the board.

Read at that tip (base b4e1faa9, 15 files). No secret, token or message content is added; the only new log-free write is a task transition recorded as by: 'last child completed'.

Finding 1 (blocking, behaviour). tasks.js returns the archive sort((a, b) => a.createdAt - b.createdAt) — oldest first — and boardTasksFor takes archive.slice(0, 20), so the slice is the 20 oldest finished cards. Probe on the shipped code (37 finished rows, createdAt 1…37): the archive read returns 1…37, the slice is 1…20, and createdAt 37 is not rendered at all. The PR's own kanban.test.js pins the same thing: its 37-card fixture asserts columns.done[0].id === 'task-done-19', so task-done-20…36 never render. The body and core-client.md both say "newest 20". Effect: after the next 15 s poll a just-finished card moves off the active list and is not in the slice — it disappears from the only surface that shows it. Suggested fix: order the archive newest-first before slicing (updatedAt desc) and assert the newest fixture card is shown and the oldest dropped.

Finding 2 (note). settleOverall uses openTask, which excludes accepted/cancelled/failed, so a failed child counts as closed: after one failed child, accepting or cancelling the last other child completes the overall card accepted at progress: 100 with a failed child in its history. The body says "finishing or cancelling"; decide whether failed should settle.

Finding 3 (note). Completing the overall card writes a card the actor may not own: settleOverall calls applyColumn(parent, 'done', …) from a child move guarded by requireRequester/mayUpdate on the child. A child's requester can therefore complete the room's overall card. It is #1252's intent and status-only (no deletion, history kept), but it belongs in the body.

Ran:

  • node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check → ok ds-bot/ = Fei2411/DeepSeek-Bot@2b10c70, ok 10 patches apply cleanly in order, ok core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/; 0001-core-fixes.patch and 0007-version-and-tooling.patch byte-identical to base, 0008-client-bundle.patch regenerated, 0012-room-membership.patch untouched by this PR; all five files/ mirrors equal their core files; core/package.json 0.2.9; node scripts/build-client.mjs --check exit 0.
  • node --import ./test/harness-resolve.mjs --test test/bot-tasks.test.js test/tasks.test.js test/kanban.test.js test/task-drive.test.js → 70/70 pass.
  • Knife: the two #1252 host tests on the unfixed base b4e1faa9 → both red (a room board lists active work only…, the last child completing…).
  • Probe: an archive-read row carrying a sentinel extra field (claimCue) is returned verbatim — view() spreads the whole record and strips nothing. With feat(tasks): post the room notice's one-line claim cue #1288's view strip merged in, the same read returns the row without it (see the seam note).
  • Not run: full npm run verify, the live product, the bench.

  1. { archive: true } cannot widen scope: the rows are built first by the existing checks — room → roomAdmin(actor, room), botId → seesBot || mayAct, plain → mayAct || ancestorOwned — and the flag only swaps rows.filter(openTask) for rows; it is strict === true. The archive set is exactly what the default read returned before this tip, so it adds no row, session or room a caller could not already see.
  2. claimCue does not exist in this tree at this sha (grep across core/ and docs: none); the "stripped in view()" premise is feat(tasks): post the room notice's one-line claim cue #1288's. Both reads share one map(view) call site (shown.sort(…).map(view)), so a strip inside view covers both — and the probe above shows it is the only thing that does, because view strips nothing by itself. feat(tasks): post the room notice's one-line claim cue #1288's seven tests read rt.state.tasks, never the endpoint, so they cannot catch a leak through the archive read.
  3. Client: the second read is the same tasks action and route with one extra boolean body field — no new endpoint, header or network surface, and no new field rendered (boardTasksFor merges rows the same view already exposed; counts reads the same fields). Finding 1 is the client-side defect.

Seam with #1288. A text merge is clean: git merge-file of #1288's head onto this tree gives 0 conflicts in core/src/host/tasks.js, groups.js and core-host.md, and the merged tree runs 77/77 across claim-cue + bot-tasks + tasks + task-drive + kanban. What that hides is exactly the invariant above: the claim cue stays off both reads only while the strip is inside view() — move it to the plain-read branch and the archive read leaks, with #1288's tests still green. Rebuild target: keep the strip in view, add one assertion on the { archive: true } read. Also regenerate, do not hand-merge: tasks.js is a whole-file copy in patches/ds-bot/files/src/host/tasks.js (both PRs rewrite it entirely; taking either side loses the other), while groups.js still rides in 0012, which #1288 modified at an older base. generate from the merged core/, then check.

Scope: no new config key, no new state file, no runtime internals, no emitChanged()/requestDrive() reach-ins; the change is the read filter, settleOverall, the client archive read and the generated bundle.

Self-test: INC at bdf867b2ba426aabf86f33065750c1fe3ffc75cd — the ordering fix and the failed-child path are right, but the host's limit bounds all rows in the caller's scope, not the finished ones, so the newest settled card can still be cut and the Done column shrinks (or empties) as active work grows.

Finding. tasks.js ordered = [...shown].sort(newestFirst).slice(0, limit) with shown = rows (active + settled). The client then filters that page to columnOf === 'done'. Probe at this tip: 25 working rows with fresh updatedAt + 5 accepted → { roomId, archive: true, limit: 20 } returns 20 rows, all working, 0 accepted; the unbounded read returns 30. So the just-finished card is cut whenever 20 newer active rows exist, and in a busy room the Done column can be empty. It also contradicts the comment above the new host test ("A requested limit bounds the finished rows") and the host comment above readArchiveLimit ("gets the newest rows"). Suggested fix: apply the bound to the settled subset, e.g. const settled = rows.filter(t => !openTask(t)).sort(newestFirst); const shown = archive ? [...rows.filter(openTask), ...(limit === undefined ? settled : settled.slice(0, limit))] : rows.filter(openTask) — and one test with an active row newer than every finished one.

Confirmations asked for, from the code at this sha.

  1. boardTasksFor sorts a copy updatedAt desc (tiebreak createdAt desc) before slice(0, limit), and newestFirst in the host is the same key: client-side, a just-finished card (old createdAt, fresh updatedAt) leads the column and the oldest is dropped — the kanban.test.js assertions are correct. The host bound is the defect above.
  2. readArchiveLimit: only when archive === true; Number(value) must be Number.isInteger and ≥ 1, else invalid (bot/invalid); clamp ARCHIVE_LIMIT_MAX = 200 (probe limit: 500 over 250 settled rows → 200). 0, -3, 1.5, "abc" are all refused bot/invalid; no limit returns the old read (createdAt asc, every row), so statusOf/id lookups still find a settled row outside the newest page. Two coercion edges, minor: limit: true → 1 and limit: "20" → 20; if a strict JSON number is intended, test typeof value === 'number' before Number.isInteger.
  3. settleOverall: children.some(!TERMINAL_MATCH) returns before either branch, so the failed path cannot be reached with a non-terminal child; openTask(parent) plus the open/claimed/working list gate it, and transition(parent, 'failed') and applyColumn(parent, 'done') are legal from those three states. Probe: parent working with one failed and one open child stays working when another child is accepted; once the last open child ends the parent becomes failed; when every child is accepted/cancelled it becomes accepted with progress: 100. No loop: a terminal parent returns at the gate, and a parentId cycle cannot be created (task-update does not set parentId).
  4. Read scope unchanged: the same three branches (roomAdmin; seesBot || mayAct; mayAct || ancestorOwned) build rows first, and archive/limit only change the status filter and the bound; no new endpoint or header (same tasks action), and view() is untouched, so no field is rendered that it did not already expose.

Ran:

  • node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check → ok ds-bot/ = Fei2411/DeepSeek-Bot@2b10c70, ok 10 patches apply cleanly in order, ok core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/; 0001-core-fixes.patch, 0007-version-and-tooling.patch and 0012-room-membership.patch byte-identical to base 63f81f03, 0008-client-bundle.patch regenerated, all five files/ mirrors equal their core files, core/package.json 0.2.9, node scripts/build-client.mjs --check exit 0.
  • node --import ./test/harness-resolve.mjs --test test/bot-tasks.test.js test/tasks.test.js test/kanban.test.js test/task-drive.test.js → 72/72 pass.
  • Knife: the four #1252 host tests on base 63f81f03 → all four red.
  • Probes as above (bounded page composition, limit validation/clamp, failed/accepted settlement). No secret, token or message content is added; the new write path logs nothing.
  • Not run: full npm run verify, the live product, the bench.

One non-blocking side effect of the same page: the rail's counts loop now runs over own + archive, and with a 20-card archive page a Bot's {done}/{total} stops counting its full history.

Self-test: PASS at 86e9795

Ran: TZ=UTC npm run verify (exit 0) · node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check (three ok lines) · core/test/bot-tasks.test.js + core/test/kanban.test.js 16/16 · independent product-path drive 19/19 · the new tests grafted onto base ef5dae42 → 6 red.

Full gate at this tree: core 1748/1748, social 525/525, tree 125/125, timeline 125/125, .github/scripts 508/508, interop 37/37, live-e2e 24/24 — 0 not ok; lint 66 warnings / 0 errors; arch-docs: OK (15 changed file(s)); the three check lines ok.

Mixed payload (the issue's point). 25 working cards with fresh updatedAt plus 5 settled cards, { roomId: 'war', archive: true, limit: 20 } → exactly 5 rows, every one terminal, the newest finished card present, none of the 25 live rows, and a non-empty Done column. The base read the same request as all 30 rows (false !== true, below).

The bound. 200 settled rows → limit: 20 returns 20, newest present, oldest absent. No limit → 200 rows including the oldest, in createdAt asc (the id-lookup path).

limit typing. true, "20", 0, -3, 1.5, "abc", {} are all refused bot/invalid. An absent limit and limit: null both still mean no bound (200 rows).

Ordering and the overall card. Both ordering cases green by name: #1252: an archive read can ask for the newest rows, and an unbounded read still sees them all, and #1252: a group board renders the newest finished cards, not the oldest (37 rows → task-done-36 first, task-done-0 absent, literal 20 and ARCHIVE_SHOWN asserted, and an old-createdAt/fresh-updatedAt row leads). settleOverall: failed when one child failed; accepted / progress 100 / done only when every child ended accepted or cancelled; an open child keeps it open.

Nothing loosened. No assert line is removed. The one removed line in bot-tasks.test.js is a call site (an id-lookup read gaining archive: true) and in kanban.test.js it is the import line; tasks.test.js changes only the statusOf helper. The new cases add assertions (+144 / +32).

Red produced on base ef5dae42 (cross-check that the suite can red for this behaviour): 6 red. #1252: a bounded archive read carries the newest finished rows and no active ones → the bounded archive carries finished rows only / false !== true (base returns the live rows in the same payload); …a room board lists active work only… → true !== false; …the last child completing… → 'open' !== 'accepted'; …an overall card fails when one of its children failed → 'working'; …an archive read can ask for the newest rows… → 200 !== 20. The kanban ordering case reds at base only as boardTasksFor is not a function (missing export), so I do not count that one as behavioural.

Advisory self-test only; the repository reviewer's verdict is the gate.

Follow-up finding, not a conclusion: this tip carries no Verdict: from me, so a verdict can judge your next push once, in full. The five #1252 behaviours and the bounded page you fixed at bdf867b2 all hold here — what follows is what a PASS at this tip would otherwise hide.

Confirming your own finding is fixed. At 86e97959, a room with 25 working rows (newer updatedAt) and 5 accepted, asked for { roomId, archive: true, limit: 20 }:

page: 5 | active in page: 0 | finished in page: 5

The budget is spent on the finished rows, the page carries no active ones, and readArchiveLimit now refuses true/"20" by type. The knives still bite: reverting core/src/host/tasks.js to ef5dae42 reddens all five #1252 tests, and removing boardTasksFor's newest-first sort reddens the client case with the column starts at the newest finished card.

1. Two terminal paths end a child without settling the overall card.

settleOverall is called from applyColumn (tasks.js:309), task-accept-result (:917) and task-cancel (:940). Two other places end a child and call nothing:

  • rt.taskBotDeleted (tasks.js:766-771) moves the deleted Bot's open tasks to failed through transition.
  • rt.taskDecided (tasks.js:747-763) moves a blocked task to cancelled when the owner rejects the approval.

Measured at this tip — a working overall card whose only child is working on Bot s, then delete-bot { id: 's' }:

child: failed | parent: working
RESULT: LEFT OPEN

The child ends failed, which is exactly the branch this PR turns into a failed overall card, but the parent stays working with nobody able to close it — the defect #1252 exists for, reached by deleting a Bot. An approval reject that cancels the last child is the same shape. Both loops already return save(); calling settleOverall for each task they end closes it.

2. The bounded page is cut before the client's own-Bot filter, so a Bot's Done column can still empty.

The host now returns the newest finished rows of the caller's whole scope (tasks.js:805-812), and a Bot-scoped board asks with query = {} (kanban.js:175-176) and only then filters archive.filter(task => task.ownerBotId === scope.botId) (:204). So the cut happens across every Bot the viewer can act on.

Measured at this tip with 20 settled cards on Bot s (newer) and one on Bot a (older):

page: 20 | has a's finished card: false | a's Done column after the filter: 0
unbounded archive has a's finished card: true

Bot a has a finished card and its board renders an empty Done column. The room scope is correct (the page is the room's); the Bot scope needs { ...query, botId: scope.botId, archive: true, limit: … }, or the filter has to happen before the cut.

Wording, on the page this PR owns

docs/subsystems/core-client.md still says the cap twice in one row: "the Done column merges a second read … cut to that limit, so a room with hundreds of finished cards still renders a twenty-card column", and then "The board's archive read is capped at the same limit as the column … so the poll carries the slice and not the history". One sentence is enough; the second also repeats the literal call. docs/subsystems/core-host.md is fine.

What holds at this tip, measured here (DSH_HARNESS=/opt/flybot, --import ./test/harness-resolve.mjs)

  • bot-tasks + tasks + kanban + task-drive + client-bundle + delivery-board → 119/119.
  • patches/ds-bot/files/ 205 files, every one cmp-equal to core/; node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check → ok 10 patches apply cleanly in order, ok core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/, exit 0; node scripts/build-client.mjs --check → exit 0; changelog 16 fragments well formed.
  • GET /compare/ef5dae42...86e97959 is exactly the 15 files listed, +621/−90, one commit whose parent is the new main.
  • CI at this tip: 14 check runs, all completed; the only failure is enqueue-guard, its own line no Verifier report names the tip 86e979595b7c — expected while no PASS exists here.
  • Not run: the smoke bench and a real DSH turn (no live instance), and the whole npm run verify (this box refuses the full run with pthread_create); the suites above are what this diff can reach.

Push a new tip and I judge it once. If either item is left out, it needs its own issue rather than a PASS.

Self-test: PASS at 86e9795

Advisory self-test on the frozen tip, read from the tree, not the body. This is not the repository's verdict and it authorizes no merge.

Tip 86e979595b7c581d689a5048b160c56278c5d8df, tree 417e85f93c8f8720e44eaee23b660e2db65ab97f, base ef5dae4299877a44714d86aee3c7ad83d24d045f (= main), 15 files +621/−90.

The INC at bdf867b2 is fixed

That round found the bound spending its budget on every row in scope ([...shown].sort(newestFirst).slice(0, limit) with shown = rows), so 20 freshly updated working cards could empty the Done column. At this tip the bounded branch is settled-only and returns early (core/src/host/tasks.js, the tasks read):

if (limit !== undefined) {
  const settled = rows.filter(task => !openTask(task)).sort(newestFirst).slice(0, limit)
  return settled.map(view)
}
const shown = archived ? rows : rows.filter(openTask)

The exact shape that would have caught it, on the shipped code (25 working rows with updatedAt newer than every finished card, 5 accepted):

{ roomId, archive: true, limit: 20 } -> 5 rows, statuses {"accepted":5},
  ids [task-done-4, task-done-3, task-done-2, task-done-1, task-done-0]  (newest first)
{ roomId, archive: true }             -> 30 rows, {working:25, accepted:5}

No active row can enter the bounded page: they are filtered out before the sort and the slice, and the branch returns. With 37 settled rows, limit: 20 returns task-done-36 … task-done-17 and task-done-0 is outside it — the newest is kept, the oldest is cut. limit: 3 gives the newest three. Client ordering is unchanged and agrees: boardTasksFor sorts a copy updatedAt desc (tiebreak createdAt desc) before slice(0, 20).

Typing, clamp, and the unbounded path

readArchiveLimit: undefined/null return before the check (no bound); typeof value !== 'number' || !Number.isInteger(value) || value < 1 throws bot/invalid; the result is Math.min(value, 200).

0, -3, 1.5, "abc", "20", true -> refused:bot/invalid
500 over 250 settled rows     -> 200 rows (clamped)
absent limit -> every row (200 settled; 62 in the mixed fixture)

So the two coercion edges from my earlier round (true → 1, "20" → 20) are refusals now, and a read with no limit still returns every settled row — the id-lookup path is intact. limit is read only when archive === true, so a caller that passes limit without the flag gets the old read, not a silently bounded one.

Fail semantics

settleOverall is unchanged from what I reviewed: failed when any child ended failed, accepted + progress: 100 only when every child ended accepted or cancelled; a non-terminal child returns before either branch, and a parent that is blocked or result-ready is left alone. Probe at this tip: parent working with one failed and one open child stays working until the last open child ends, then becomes failed; the accepted path is the new test (last child completing → accepted, progress 100). No loop: the parent gate is openTask plus ['open','claimed','working'], and a parent's own completion re-enters settleOverall with no parentId and returns false.

Scope and security surface

The three ownership branches are untouched lines of the diff: room → roomAdmin(actor, room); botId → seesBot || mayAct(task, actor); plain → mayAct(task, actor) || ancestorOwned(actor, task.ownerBotId). The flag and the bound only change the filter and the cut inside rows, which is already scoped by room membership / bot ownership, so { archive: true, limit } cannot reach another session's rows or another room's rows, and it goes through the same check as the plain read. Same tasks action and route: no new endpoint, header, config key or state file, no runtime internals (emitChanged / requestDrive absent from both changed sources), and the only caller of taskEndpoint is still the one channel dispatch (core/src/host/channel.js:653), so the active-only default has no internal consumer that could start missing settled rows. view() is not touched by the diff, so the bounded page renders exactly the fields the plain read already exposed — nothing new is rendered, and no display name or fenced remote text enters a new path.

Patch integrity at base ef5dae42

ok   ds-bot/ = Fei2411/DeepSeek-Bot@2b10c70 (tree 5834c00, v0.1.5)
ok 10 patches apply cleanly in order
ok   core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/

0001-core-fixes.patch, 0007-version-and-tooling.patch and 0012-room-membership.patch are byte-identical to ef5dae42; 0008-client-bundle.patch is the regenerated bundle and carries ARCHIVE_SHOWN, boardTasksFor and the limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN archive read; the five patches/ds-bot/files/ mirrors are byte-equal to their core/ files; core/package.json is 0.2.9; node core/scripts/build-client.mjs --check exits 0.

Tests and red-first

Full core suite in a git-backed checkout: 1748/1748 pass. The three touched files alone: 47/47. Knife on base ef5dae42 with the new test files dropped in: all six new #1252 cases fail (five host in core/test/bot-tasks.test.js, one client in core/test/kanban.test.js) — 6 red, no false green.

Checks at this head

14 check runs. Green: tests-ok, package, ubuntu-latest · Node 24, merge-gate, the three plugin jobs, judge. Red: enqueue-guard — "no Verifier report names the tip 86e9795". That is the repository's own do-not-enqueue gate waiting for its verifier at a fresh tip, not a code failure; merge stays refused until the repository's reviewer reports, which is the correct state.

Non-blocking notes, for the record

  • The bound is applied only when archive === true; limit without the flag is ignored rather than refused (old read, documented as such).
  • A child's requester can settle the room's overall card; it is status-only, nothing is deleted and actors/history are kept — stated in the body as a decision.
  • limit above 200 is clamped, not refused; the client sends ARCHIVE_SHOWN (20), so that edge is not reachable from the board.

Verdict: INC at 86e9795
Written-by: Reviewer2

Two blocking defects at this tip; the measurements and code citations are in 6415603926, not repeated here.

1. Two terminal paths still end a child without settling the overall card. settleOverall is called from applyColumn (target === 'accepted'), task-accept-result and task-cancel only. rt.taskBotDeleted (tasks.js:766-771) and rt.taskDecided (tasks.js:747-763) end a child through transition and call it nowhere, so deleting a Bot or rejecting an approval leaves the overall card working with nobody able to close it — the defect #1252 exists for, on two paths this PR leaves open. Call settleOverall for each task those loops end.

Test required: a working overall card whose only child is working on Bot s, then delete-bot { id: 's' } — the child ends failed and the overall card must end failed. (An approval reject that cancels the last child is the same shape; one case is enough if it goes through one of the two paths.)

2. The Bot-scoped archive page is cut before the client's botId filter, so its Done column can empty. The host returns the newest finished rows of the caller's whole scope, and a Bot-scoped board asks with query = {} (kanban.js:175-176) and only then filters archive.filter(task => task.ownerBotId === scope.botId) (:204). Any other Bot's settled cards can therefore fill the twenty-row page and leave this Bot's Done column empty although its card is in the archive. Send botId with the archive read (the endpoint already accepts it), or filter before the cut.

Test required: 20 settled cards owned by another Bot (newer) plus 1 settled card owned by this Bot — with limit: 20, the Bot-scoped board's Done column is not empty and contains its own card.

Non-blocking: docs/subsystems/core-client.md states the archive cap twice in one row; one sentence is enough.

No pass label, no enqueue from me. A new tip voids this verdict and I judge that tip once.

Self-test: PASS at 5385491

Ran: TZ=UTC npm run verify (exit 0) · check (three ok lines) · core/test/bot-tasks.test.js + core/test/kanban.test.js 20/20 · independent product-path drive 15/15 for the new doors/page/client body plus 19/19 retained checks · the new tests grafted onto base ef5dae42 → 10 red of 20.

Full gate at this tree: core 1752/1752, social 525/525, tree 125/125, timeline 125/125, .github/scripts 508/508, interop 37/37, live-e2e 24/24 — 0 not ok; lint 66 warnings / 0 errors (core; 36/9/2 in the plugins, 0 errors); arch-docs: OK (15 changed file(s)); the three check lines ok.

Both new doors settle the overall card — driven, not read. Through the real product path, parent read back via { archive: true }:

  • delete-bot { id: 's' } on a working child → child failed, overall failed, column done.
  • A held send (ctx.flybot.bot.send hold gate) blocks the child, flybot/decide { decision: 'reject' } → child cancelled, overall accepted, progress 100, column done. The approval shape was driven end-to-end; cost was one hold-gate setup, no special harness.

Base ef5dae42 reds the same two cases: 'open' !== 'failed' and 'open' !== 'accepted'.

The Bot-scoped page — request body and host page. The bundled client posts { botId: 'a', archive: true, limit: 20 } for a Bot board and { roomId: 'war', archive: true, limit: 20 } for a group board (asserted on the posted body, not the host read). Host side with 20 newer settled cards on Bot s and 1 older on Bot a: { botId: 'a', archive: true, limit: 20 } returns exactly the older card, { botId: 's' } returns its 20, and the unfiltered page keeps 20 and drops the older one — the defect's precondition, asserted. Base reds the client body ({}, no archive read) and the unfiltered page (21 !== 20).

Retained, re-derived: mixed 25 working + 5 settled → exactly 5 rows, all terminal, newest present, no live row, Done column non-empty; 200 settled → 20 newest page (oldest absent), unbounded 200 with the oldest in createdAt asc; the seven limit refusals (true, "20", 0, -3, 1.5, "abc", {}) all bot/invalid, absent and null still unbounded; both ordering cases green by name (37 rows → task-done-36 first, task-done-0 absent, literal 20 and ARCHIVE_SHOWN); settleOverall failed-vs-accepted (failed child → failed; accepted + cancelled → accepted/100/done; open child keeps it open).

Nothing loosened. No assert line is removed. The three removed lines in kanban.test.js are test-harness plumbing (hook capture and the import list); bot-tasks.test.js loses one call site (an id lookup gaining archive: true); tasks.test.js changes only the statusOf helper. The new cases add assertions (+234 / +69).

Advisory self-test only; the repository reviewer's verdict is the gate.

Self-test: PASS at 5385491

Advisory self-test at the frozen tip, read from the tree and driven through the HTTP endpoints, not from the body. Not the repository's verdict, and it authorizes no merge. This supersedes my advisory at 86e9795 (6415627981), which missed the two doors below; that comment stays as the record for its tree.

Tip 5385491f7f0de7030099363ff10cb08cfd2ead25, tree 7d2cb31039f8702e899c052a3a4b5daec6799f2e, base ef5dae4299877a44714d86aee3c7ad83d24d045f (= main), 15 files +897/−94.

The two new doors settle the overall card

settleOverall(task) is now called right after the terminal transition in rt.taskDecided (both the waiting-input and the blocked branch) and in rt.taskBotDeleted, each inside the existing loop, with the loop's continue / return save() unchanged. Driven through the endpoints:

Rejected approval — flybot.bot.send with a hold gate blocks the child, then flybot/decide { decision: 'reject' }:

child: blocked -> cancelled
parent: accepted, column done, progress 100
second tasks{archive:true} read of the parent: byte-identical (no second transition)

Deleted Bot — delete-bot { id: 's' } on the child's owner:

child: failed
parent: failed, column done, progress unset (the failed branch only transitions, no progress: 100)
parent history: open -> failed

No double settle or loop: the parent must be kind: 'group', openTask, and in open/claimed/working; every child must be terminal; a settled parent is terminal, so any later re-entry returns false. The accepted path still only runs when every child ended accepted or cancelled, and progress: 100 is written only there.

The Bot filter runs before the cut

core/src/client/kanban.js now sends { botId, archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN } for a Bot board and { roomId, archive: true, limit } for a group; the default (active) read stays unfiltered and is narrowed client-side.

Endpoint tasks, 20 newer finished cards owned by s, one older card owned by a:

{ botId: 'a', archive: true, limit: 20 } -> 1 row: task-chief-old   (the older card survives)
{ botId: 's', archive: true, limit: 20 } -> 20 rows, all ownerBotId 's'
{ archive: true, limit: 20 }             -> 20 rows, task-chief-old absent (the old defect's precondition)

So the filter runs inside rows before the settled sort and slice, and the page cannot be spent on another Bot's newer cards.

The bound, the type, the order (unchanged from 86e9795)

Endpoint tasks, 25 working rows with updatedAt newer than every finished card, 5 accepted:

{ roomId, archive: true, limit: 20 } -> 5 rows, statuses {"accepted":5}, ids [done-4 … done-0] (newest first)
{ roomId, archive: true }            -> 30 rows (25 working + 5 accepted)
{ roomId }                           -> 25 rows (active only)

37 settled: limit: 20 gives done-36 … done-17, the oldest is outside; limit: 3 gives the newest three; limit without archive is ignored (25 active rows). No active row can enter the bounded page — they are filtered out before the sort and the early return.

readArchiveLimit: absent or null → no bound (250 rows); 0, -3, 1.5, "abc", "20", true, {} → bot/invalid; 500 over 250 settled rows → 200 (clamped). A raw 1e400, which the JSON parse turns into Infinity, is also refused (bot/invalid).

Scope, authorization, surface

The three ownership branches are unchanged lines of this diff: room → roomAdmin(actor, room); botId → seesBot || mayAct(task, actor), with the existing forbidden when authz is on, the Bot is not seen and the filter leaves no rows; plain → mayAct(task, actor) || ancestorOwned(actor, task.ownerBotId). The flag, the bound and the new Bot filter only narrow inside rows.

Proof that naming another owner's Bot gets no rows: with a second member and a Bot owned by them, { botId, archive: true, limit: 20 } and { botId, archive: true } both return bot/forbidden for the other member, while the owner reads their own card; an unknown id (nope) is bot/forbidden.

Same tasks action and route: no new endpoint, header, config key or state file; no runtime internals in the changed sources; the only caller of taskEndpoint is still the one channel dispatch (core/src/host/channel.js:653), so the active-only default has no internal consumer that could miss settled rows. view() is untouched, so nothing new is rendered — the bounded page shows the fields the plain read already exposed, and no display name or fenced remote text enters a new path. The docs were updated with both new behaviours (the botId/roomId filter before the cut in core-host, the rejected-approval and deleted-Bot doors in the changelog) and match the code.

Patch integrity at base ef5dae42

ok   ds-bot/ = Fei2411/DeepSeek-Bot@2b10c70 (tree 5834c00, v0.1.5)
ok 10 patches apply cleanly in order
ok   core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/

0001-core-fixes.patch, 0007-version-and-tooling.patch, 0012-room-membership.patch are byte-identical to ef5dae42; 0008-client-bundle.patch is the regenerated bundle and carries ARCHIVE_SHOWN, boardTasksFor and the botId-aware archive read; the five patches/ds-bot/files/ mirrors are byte-equal to their core/ files; core/package.json is 0.2.9; node core/scripts/build-client.mjs --check exits 0.

Tests and red-first

Full core suite in a git-backed checkout: 1752/1752 pass. Knife on base ef5dae42 with the new test files dropped in: all ten new #1252 cases fail (eight host in core/test/bot-tasks.test.js, two client in core/test/kanban.test.js) — 10 red, no false green.

Checks at this head

14 check runs: tests-ok, package, ubuntu-latest · Node 24, merge-gate, the three plugin jobs, judge and the report-only jobs are green. enqueue-guard is red with "no Verifier report names the tip 5385491" — the repository's own do-not-enqueue gate waiting for its verifier at a fresh tip, not a code failure.

Non-blocking, for the record

  • null limit is treated as absent (unbounded), which is what a JSON NaN/Infinity becomes on the wire; a literal 1e400 is refused.
  • Deleting the Bot that owns the overall card fails that card through its own task transition even while children are open (pre-existing rule for the deleted Bot's tasks); a later child write then finds it terminal and does not touch it.
  • On a Bot board the active read is still whole-scope and narrowed client-side, while the archive read names the Bot; the two lists stay disjoint, so no card is counted twice.

Requested, from a listed reviewer: Verdict: PASS at 5385491f7f0de7030099363ff10cb08cfd2ead25 with a Ran: line stating the command and its result.

Base and current main are the same commit, so nothing was merged to judge this tip — the tree this verdict names is the tree that lands. node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check on it: ok ds-bot/ = Fei2411/DeepSeek-Bot@2b10c70 (tree 5834c00, v0.1.5), ok 10 patches apply cleanly in order, ok core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/.

Head frozen: any push to this branch voids the request and needs a new one.

What it does. A finished card leaves the room board's default read and is reachable through tasks { archive: true }; the client draws a bounded Done column and asks for its page with { archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN }, which the host answers with the newest finished rows and no active ones, so a busy room's fresh working cards cannot push the finished ones out. A Bot-scoped board names its Bot in that read, so another Bot's newer finished cards cannot empty its column. Without limit the archive read still returns every row, because an id lookup has to find a card outside the newest page. An overall group card completes accepted when every child ended accepted or cancelled, and failed when any child failed — including when the child was cancelled by a rejected approval or failed because its Bot was deleted.

86e9795 carried a formal Verdict: INC (6415648677), and this tip answers it rather than withdrawing it. Item 1: settleOverall(task) now runs after the terminal transition in both rt.taskDecided branches and in rt.taskBotDeleted; proven by #1252: deleting a child's Bot fails the overall card, read back from the archive (child failed, parent failed, columnOf done, progress as the card carried — the failed branch only calls transition) and by #1252: a rejected approval cancels the child and completes the overall card, read back (child cancelled, parent accepted, progress 100, done), both read back through tasks { archive: true } rather than a return value. Item 2: a Bot board sends { botId, archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN }; proven by #1252: a Bot-scoped archive page is cut after the Bot filter and by the client drive that captures the posted body as exactly { botId: 'a', archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN }. Its non-blocking docs note is fixed: the doubled cap sentence in core-client.md is collapsed to the behaviour sentence.

Red, before the fix, each from a run on the pre-fix tree: true !== false and 'open' !== 'accepted' (base 63f81f03, author's and Test's runs); 200 !== 20 and 'task-done-19' vs 'task-done-36' (the old slice took the oldest, Test at 150aeaa); 'accepted' vs 'failed' (failed child, author's run); false !== true (a bounded archive carries finished rows only, author's run — the mixed 25-active/5-settled case that Test also reproduced by probe at bdf867b2); 'open' vs 'failed' and 'open' vs 'accepted' (the two terminal doors, author's run); the client posting { archive: true, limit: 20 } with no botId (author's run).

Advisory rounds at this sha: Test 6415907830 and Security 6415965572. Five earlier advisories are superseded and are not evidence here — 6415205741 and 6415207539 (both at 150aeaa), 6415419164 (at bdf867b2), 6415574602 and 6415627981 (both at 86e9795) — and stay up as record; only the two comments posted at 5385491f count.

Checkpoint: files 12, checkpointReasons → []; Fixes #1252, Owner: Dev-1, Written-by: Dev-1, Reviewer: Reviewer.

Two residuals, decided not omitted: the archive read without limit stays uncapped on purpose (id-lookup and tooling path, not what the board polls); a child's requester can complete the room's overall card — status-only, nothing deleted, actors and history kept.

Verdict: INC at 5385491
Written-by: Reviewer2

Ran at this tip (a fresh tarball extract of 5385491f; each cut restored with cp and confirmed by md5sum):

  • DSH_HARNESS=/opt/flybot TZ=UTC node --test --test-force-exit --import ./test/harness-resolve.mjs test/bot-tasks.test.js test/tasks.test.js test/kanban.test.js test/board-card.test.js test/task-drive.test.js test/delivery-view.test.js test/client-bundle.test.js test/client-apply-order.test.js → 105/105
  • knife: drop the settleOverall(task) after the terminal transition in rt.taskBotDeleted → bot-tasks not ok 12 (13/1)
  • knife: drop both settleOverall(task) calls in rt.taskDecided → bot-tasks not ok 13 (13/1)
  • knife: cut the page from all instead of the Bot-scoped rows → bot-tasks not ok 14 (13/1)
  • knife: const archiveQuery = query (no botId) → kanban not ok 6 (5/1)
  • node scripts/build-client.mjs --check → exit 0; node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check → three lines, ok 10 patches apply cleanly in order + ok core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/, exit 0
  • a mirror compare over patches/ds-bot/files/ → 205 files, 0 differ, 0 missing

Both findings of 6415648677 (Verdict: INC at 86e9795) are fixed at this tip, each pinned by a test that goes red when its door is closed again:

  • settleOverall now runs from every way a child ends: applyColumn's accepted target (src/host/tasks.js:309), task-accept-result (:922), task-cancel (:945), both rt.taskDecided branches (:754, :767) and rt.taskBotDeleted (:777). The first two knives above are the two doors I named, and each is red on its own.
  • The Bot-scoped page is cut after the filter: rows is narrowed by ownerBotId (:800) before rows.filter(!openTask).sort(newestFirst).slice(0, limit) (:816), and the client names the Bot: archiveQuery = { botId: scope.botId } (src/client/kanban.js:180) into { ...archiveQuery, archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN } (:191). The fourth knife is the client half, red when the botId is dropped.

Blocking: the Inbox stops showing finished and failed task cards

The default tasks read changed meaning at this tip: tasks {} now answers active work only (src/host/tasks.js:819, shown = archived ? rows : rows.filter(openTask)), and the board asks for the settled rows in a second read (src/client/kanban.js:191). The Inbox was not updated: useTasks still calls actions?.tasks?.() with no body (src/client/inbox.js:75), which src/client/index.js:611 sends as {}, so the Inbox receives exactly that active-only list.

inboxModel is where those rows become cards: failed goes to Needs you (inbox.js:248), accepted / cancelled to Done (inbox.js:249) — the file's own header says "Done (and a failed task) ages out after 7 days" (inbox.js:20) — and the sidebar badge is needsCount over the same model (inbox.js:417).

The Security advisory at this tip says "the active-only default has no internal consumer that could miss settled rows" — that covers host-side callers of taskEndpoint, and the Inbox is a client-side consumer of the same endpoint through the same dispatch (inbox.js:75 → index.js:611). The shipped core/client.js carries it: tasks?.() appears twice (the Inbox and a Bot board's default read) beside the one tasks?.({ ...archiveQuery, archive: true, limit: ARCHIVE_SHOWN }).

Measured at this tip:

  • the read the Inbox makes, once a card is accepted, no longer carries that card — the pull request's own new test asserts it (#1252: a room board lists active work only, and the archive is explicit, test/bot-tasks.test.js:456, a done card leaves the room board by default);
  • feeding those two lists to inboxModel (bundled with esbuild and the react stub the Inbox test already uses): tasks: [] → needs 0, done 0; tasks: [accepted] → done 1; tasks: [failed] → needs 1.

So on the list the Inbox actually receives, a finished task has no Done card and a failed task has no Needs-you card — and needsCount no longer counts it.

Fix: useTasks has to ask for the rows it classifies — { archive: true }, the uncapped list/lookup read this diff defines — or merge the active read with the archive read the way the board does. A test that drives the Inbox's own useTasks with a fake tasks action and asserts it requests the settled rows (and that an accepted card lands in Done) is red today, and green once the read names them.

Non-blocking

  • docs/subsystems/core-client.md: the duplicated cap sentence is gone — the row states the cut once and the uncapped lookup path once.
  • The bounded page is settled, the Done column is accepted: tasks.js:816 returns accepted + cancelled + failed and kanban.js:192 then keeps only columnOf === 'done', so twenty newer cancelled/failed cards in one scope can still leave the Done column empty. That is not the cross-Bot defect this pull request fixes, but the page's budget is spent on rows the column drops.
  • A Bot board's default read is still unfiltered (actions.tasks(), kanban.js:184): every active row the actor can see is shipped and filtered in the browser. Sending botId there is the same predicate, server-side.
  • The body's "My claim names base main 0472c168" is stale — the base is ef5dae42, as the rebase paragraph below it says. No gate weight (a fork is exempt from the header rules).

CI at this tip: 14 runs, all completed — 13 success; the one failure is enqueue-guard 121567084513 (do not enqueue #1289: comment by Birfy: names 86e979595b7c, not the tip 5385491f7f0d), which is this verdict's job to answer.

Not run: npm run verify as one command (this box refuses pthread_create for the full run) and the smoke bench (no live DSH here).

@github-actions github-actions Bot added the risk:T3 Risk tier T3 (needs a human approval), set by the controller from the diff label Oct 26, 2026
…hinkFlowLab#1252)

A finished card leaves the room board's default read, and the Done column
reads a bounded page of the newest finished rows: the host spends the
budget on settled rows only, and a Bot-scoped board names its Bot so
another Bot's newer cards cannot empty its column.

The Inbox classifies finished and failed cards too, so its own read asks
for the archive; the active-only default had silently stopped feeding it.

A group's overall card completes when every child has ended — accepted
when each ended accepted or cancelled, failed when any child failed —
including when the child was cancelled by a rejected approval or failed
because its Bot was deleted.

PR #1289 at 5b832b9 — Test's advisory self-test.

Written-by: Test

Self-test: PASS at 5b832b9

This is our team's own self-test, not the repository's review: it is not a PASS for merge and it authorizes no merge. The repository reviewer's own judgement is the gate.

Ran: TZ=UTC npm run verify (exit 0) · node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check (three ok lines, exit 0) · core/test/inbox.test.js 27/27 · tasks + bot-tasks + kanban + inbox 79/79 · my own Inbox hook drive 5/5 · doors/Bot-page drive 15/15 · retained drive 19/19 · knife with the base inbox.js → inbox 26/27.

The Inbox fix, driven. Built the client bundle and drove useTasks with an effect-collecting react stub, against a fake host that returns two settled rows only for { archive: true }: the posted body is {"archive": true}; the failed row reaches Needs you (data-status: failed); the accepted row reaches Done (data-status: done); and the row badge counts the failed card (badge 1, base 0). Nothing here is read from the code or the PR body.

The knife. Restoring base e37f1f83's core/src/client/inbox.js under the same suite gives 26/27, with only the new case red: the Inbox read sends a body asking for the settled rows / 0 !== 1. The file was then restored with git checkout, and this tree is the tip again.

The two doors and the Bot-scoped page, re-run at this tip (unchanged code, but run, not assumed): delete-bot { id: 's' } → child failed, archived overall failed/done (progress untouched); a held send whose approval is rejected → child cancelled, archived overall accepted/100/done; { botId: 'a', archive: true, limit: 20 } returns exactly the one older card while { botId: 's' } returns its 20 and the unfiltered page keeps 20 without the older card; the bundled client posts {botId, archive, limit} for a Bot board and {roomId, archive, limit} for a group board.

Counts at this tree: core 1784/1784, social 525/525, tree 125/125, timeline 125/125, .github/scripts 509/509, interop 37/37, live-e2e 24/24 — no failures; inbox 27/27; the four task suites 79/79; check three ok and exit 0, with core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/ (0 differ).

Self-test: PASS at 5b832b9

Advisory self-test at the frozen tip 5b832b91f8ebdb1b7de782e87d40f35b24f6549d (tree f14bf9fd5a0e75746d39c4168f57cb0ad1b719b2, base e37f1f838023ce81e673d8fbec66a55d81dfe5e3 = current main, 19 files +1007/−104). Read from the tree and driven through the HTTP endpoints. It authorizes no merge and is not the repository's verdict.

Scope of the delta: core/src/host/tasks.js and core/src/client/kanban.js are byte-identical to the tip I reviewed at 5385491f; main moved underneath (ef5dae42 → e37f1f83), so the only behaviour change since that PASS is core/src/client/inbox.js plus tests, docs and the regenerated bundle. Everything below was re-run at this sha, not carried over.

The Inbox now asks for the archive — no new reach

inbox.js sends { archive: true } with no botId/roomId (plain scope) on its shared load. That is exactly the row set the pre-#1252 default read returned in the same scope — the host branch is unchanged mayAct(task, actor) || ancestorOwned(actor, task.ownerBotId) — so the Inbox regains the settled rows it lost to the active-only default and gains nothing new. Driving it with a second member and a Bot owned by them:

alice  { archive: true }              -> Bob's task absent
alice  { archive: true, limit: 20 }   -> Bob's task absent
alice  { botId: <bob's bot>, archive: true, limit: 20 } -> bot/forbidden: "You cannot see that Bot's tasks"
alice  { botId: <bob's bot>, archive: true }            -> bot/forbidden: same shape
bob    { botId: <his bot>, archive: true, limit: 20 }   -> ok:1, his own row

The bot/forbidden shape is the same bounded and unbounded, so the new Inbox read cannot be turned into a probe for another member's Bot. No field is added: the Inbox renders view() output, unchanged.

The archive read contract

Endpoint tasks. Settled-only page, newest first, no active row: 25 working rows with fresher updatedAt than every finished card, plus 5 accepted:

{ roomId, archive: true, limit: 20 } -> 5 rows, all accepted, ids [done-4 … done-0]
{ roomId, archive: true }            -> 30 rows (25 working + 5 accepted)
{ roomId }                           -> 25 rows (active only)

37 settled rows: limit: 20 gives done-36 … done-17, the oldest is outside; limit: 3 gives the newest three. An id outside the newest page stays readable without limit (the unbounded read returns every settled row, done-0 included). limit without archive is ignored (the old active read).

Refusals and bounds: 0, -3, 1.5, "abc", "20", true, {} → bot/invalid; a raw 1e400 (which JSON parses to Infinity) → bot/invalid; absent or null → no bound (250 rows); 500 over 250 settled rows → 200 (clamped).

Settling an overall card

settleOverall on task-update, task-accept-result, task-cancel, flybot/decide (reject) and delete-bot, all read back through { archive: true }:

accept/reject door: child cancelled, parent accepted, column done, progress 100, second read identical
delete door: child failed, parent failed, column done, progress unset
sibling gate:       failed child + working child + open child -> parent working;
                    last open child done -> parent failed/done

A failed child never produces a green overall card on the automatic path: the failed branch only transitions the parent to failed, and the accepted branch is taken only when every child ended accepted or cancelled. The write is status-only: store size 2 → 2, the failed child is still present, and the parent keeps its history (open by conversation, then failed with why a part of this group failed). No delete, no actor removal, no loop (a settled parent is terminal, so re-entry returns false; the reject path's second read is byte-identical).

Read scope and patch integrity

The three ownership branches are unchanged lines: room → roomAdmin; botId → seesBot || mayAct (with the existing forbidden); plain → mayAct || ancestorOwned. Only the filter, the bound and the new Inbox flag change. Same tasks action and route, no new endpoint, header, config key or state file, no runtime internals in the changed sources, view() untouched — including the display-name and fenced-remote-text path, which this diff does not touch.

At this tip: node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check → three ok lines (ds-bot/ = Fei2411/DeepSeek-Bot@2b10c70, 10 patches apply cleanly in order, core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/); 0001-core-fixes.patch, 0007-version-and-tooling.patch, 0012-room-membership.patch byte-identical to e37f1f83; 0008-client-bundle.patch regenerated; seven patches/ds-bot/files/ mirrors byte-equal to their core/ files (inbox, kanban, tasks, four test files); core/package.json 0.2.9; node core/scripts/build-client.mjs --check exit 0.

Tests: full core suite in a git-backed checkout 1784/1784 pass. Knife on base e37f1f83 with this tip's test files: 11 red — 8 new host cases in bot-tasks.test.js, 2 in kanban.test.js, and inbox.test.js 26/27 with exactly the new Inbox case failing. Nothing was left unrun; the smoke bench and packaging were out of scope for a client/host read change, as before.

Checks at this head: 14 runs, all green except enqueue-guard, which is red with "no Verifier report names the tip 5b832b9" — the repository's own do-not-enqueue gate waiting for its verifier, not a code failure.

Non-blocking, for the record

  • The Inbox's archive read is unbounded, so it ships the whole settled history on every poll. That is what the pre-Group task board keeps hundreds of accepted cards; snapshot stays noisy after work is done #1252 default read did, so it is not a regression, but the board got a bound and the Inbox did not; a follow-up could bound it with a page and a lookback.
  • While a child has failed and another is still open, the overall card's own requester can still move it to done by hand (task-update → accepted, progress 100) — pre-existing behaviour of any task card, unchanged here; the automatic settle never does that, and the docs describe the automatic completion.

The same command on this branch merged onto current main (clean, no conflicts): the same three ok lines, exit 0.

Head frozen: any push to this branch voids the request and needs a new one.

This carries the change requested at 5385491f with the blocking defect 6416140014 found fixed on top. Since that tip, core/src/host/tasks.js and core/src/client/kanban.js are byte-identical; the only behavioural change is core/src/client/inbox.js, with its test, kanban.test.js carrying #1297's cases beside ours, and the regenerated client bundle and mirrors.

An overall group card completes accepted when every child ended accepted or cancelled, and failed when any child failed — including when the child was cancelled by a rejected approval or failed because its Bot was deleted. The Inbox, a second consumer of the same read, now asks for the settled rows itself.

6416140014 (Verdict: INC at 5385491f) — answered at this tip, item by item

Blocking — the Inbox stopped receiving finished and failed cards. The chain at 5385491f: useTasks called actions?.tasks?.() with no body (core/src/client/inbox.js), core/src/client/index.js sent it as {}, and core/src/host/tasks.js answered the active-only default, while inboxModel classifies failed → Needs you, accepted/cancelled → Done, and needsCount counts them. Fixed in the one shared hook: useTasks now sends { archive: true }; the board's bounded second read is untouched. Red on the unfixed tree, measured before the assertions: posted null, badge unchanged at the snapshot count, both card lookups null, then expected: 1, actual: 0 on the posted body. Green at this tip: core/test/inbox.test.js 27/27, asserting behaviour — failed is a Needs you card, accepted a Done card, the row badge counts the failed card — driven through the real hook with an effect-collecting react stub. Knife: restoring base e37f1f83's inbox.js under that suite gives 26/27, only the new case red.

Non-blocking — the bounded page is settled, the Done column keeps only accepted. Recorded as a decided residual below: newer cancelled/failed rows can spend a scope's page budget and push an older Done card out of the twenty. Not changed at this tip.

Non-blocking — a Bot board's default read is still unfiltered client-side. Answered, not changed: that read is the active list, unfiltered is a superset of the Bot's own rows, and the board filters it in memory, so no card can be lost; the host-side cut is what made the archive read need botId, and that read sends it.

Non-blocking — the duplicated cap sentence in core-client.md. Fixed: one sentence for the read, one for the column.

Non-blocking — the stale "base main 0472c168" line. Gone; the base history below now ends at e37f1f83.

The earlier 6415648677 (Verdict: INC at 86e9795) stays answered rather than withdrawn: settleOverall(task) runs from every door a child ends through — the accepted target in applyColumn, task-accept-result, task-cancel, both rt.taskDecided branches and rt.taskBotDeleted — and the Bot-scoped page is cut after the Bot filter. Four knives at the previous tip each reddened exactly their own case.

Red, before each fix, each from a run on the tree that lacked it: true !== false and 'open' !== 'accepted' (base 63f81f03); 200 !== 20 and 'task-done-19' vs 'task-done-36' (oldest-first slice, at 150aeaa); 'accepted' vs 'failed' (a failed child must fail the overall card); false !== true (a bounded archive carries finished rows only); 'open' vs 'failed' and 'open' vs 'accepted' (the two terminal doors); the client posting { archive: true, limit: 20 } with no botId; and expected: 1, actual: 0 (the Inbox read, at 5385491f).

Advisory rounds at this sha: Test 6430396231 and Security 6430407147, both Self-test: PASS at 5b832b91f8ebdb1b7de782e87d40f35b24f6549d, neither a Verdict. Seven earlier advisories are superseded and are not evidence here — 6415907830 and 6415965572 (at 5385491f), 6415574602 and 6415627981 (at 86e9795), 6415419164 (at bdf867b2), 6415205741 and 6415207539 (at 150aeaa) — and stay up as record; only the two posted at this tip count.

Checkpoint: files 12, checkpointReasons → []; Fixes #1252, Owner: Dev-1, Written-by: Dev-1, Reviewer: Reviewer.

Residuals, decided not omitted: the archive read without limit stays uncapped (id-lookup and tooling path, not what the board polls); the board's Done column spends its page on the newest settled rows, so newer cancelled/failed rows can push an older accepted card out of the twenty; a child's requester can complete the room's overall card — status-only, nothing deleted, actors and history kept.

One correction to the request above (6430434856), facts only — the review target does not change.

  • That request says "Base and current main are the same commit, so nothing was merged to judge this tip". It was true when written, base e37f1f838023ce81e673d8fbec66a55d81dfe5e3 being main then. It is no longer true: main is now 59df1580de392b2157e254e16c900ec98af8450b (Release v0.2.10 (#1302), a mechanical release merged after the request). Nothing of ours was merged, and the reviewed head has not moved.
  • The review target is unchanged: 5b832b91f8ebdb1b7de782e87d40f35b24f6549d, one commit, tree f14bf9fd5a0e75746d39c4168f57cb0ad1b719b2, 19 files +1007/−104.
  • Measured on the current main, not argued: 5b832b91 auto-merges onto 59df1580 cleanly (no conflicts), and on that merged tree node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check prints the same three ok lines as on the tip — ds-bot/ = Fei2411/DeepSeek-Bot@2b10c70 (tree 5834c00, v0.1.5), 10 patches apply cleanly in order, core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/ — exit 0. The landing tree differs from the reviewed tree only by #1302's own release files.
  • So the tree a PASS at 5b832b91 names is still the tree that lands, plus that release. Nothing else in the request is withdrawn and no different tip is asked for.
