Tip SHA: 9019337f1971da451809df66e058b20f604fd7b4
Base: c1b9fd23e404dcff1eb782a2269e30e09e2d6993 — live main (#1547, #1572, #1556, #1552, #1573). Mechanical rebase onto it, content unchanged: this branch was already rebased from c7226536 onto 62023599, then onto 9b866a5c, and this move keeps the same change set. Both sides are kept in every conflict: main's newer text and this branch's two clauses.
Tree: 47ce0c3c537bf4f9c9f45222517d9d687b891045

What was wrong

AssignModal read the selected card once, in useState(tasks[0]?.id ?? ''), but the dialog opens before the host tasks call answers (#1452 replaced the synchronous fixture with the real board), so taskId froze to '' and never re-synced: every card rendered unselected, confirmAssign looked the frozen id up, found nothing and returned, and the Assign button carried no disabled — so the click looked accepted and posted nothing. A genuinely empty board offered the same live button with the same result. root.openWorkflowAssign did not even call loadTasks().

Separately, loadTasks() turned every failure into setTasks([]) — the missing-bridge branch and the catch alike — so a failed read rendered No open tasks on the Tasks board.: no error surface, no retry, Assign still clickable.

What changed — the smallest fix for each

#1457, one source of state. AssignModal gets one useEffect that selects the first card once rows arrive (and re-selects when the selected card is gone), and Assign is disabled: !canAssign, with canAssign = tasksStatus === 'ready' && tasks.some(task => task.id === taskId). confirmAssign's if (!task) return stays as the backstop. root.openWorkflowAssign now calls loadTasks() like the other two open paths.

#1458, one loader that carries its own status. Section keeps tasksStatus (idle / loading / ready / failed) and tasksError beside the rows. Both failure paths set failed: the missing host, and the catch, which keeps the host's message (Could not load the Tasks board. (host is busy)). failed renders .wf-err plus a Retry that re-runs loadTasks(); loading renders Loading the Tasks board…; only ready with zero rows renders the empty-board hint. plugins/workflow/src/service.js is untouched — it already refused a task with no id and title.

Four files change: plugins/workflow/client.js, plugins/workflow/test/client.test.js, docs/subsystems/workflow.md (the test-list sentence), and changelog.d/1457-1458-assign-dialog.fixed.md.

Verification at the tip

The four new tests fail against main's client.js and pass at the tip. Re-measured on the new base c1b9fd23 (this branch's test/client.test.js and every other file at the tip, main's client.js checked out over it): # tests 146 / pass 142 / fail 4, exactly — #1457: the assign dialog selects the first loaded card and Assign posts it, #1457: an empty board keeps Assign disabled, so the click is not a silent no-op, #1458: a failed Tasks load shows the error and a Retry, never the empty-board hint, #1458: Assign stays disabled while the Tasks board is still loading. At the tip the same suite is 146/146.

Ran at 9019337f1971da451809df66e058b20f604fd7b4:

  • node --test plugins/workflow/test/client.test.js (via the plugin's --import ./test/resolve.mjs) → 47/47 pass
  • npm --prefix plugins/workflow test → 146/146 pass (main at c1b9fd23 alone has 142; this branch adds 4)
  • node .github/scripts/changelog.mjs check → exit 0, 65 fragment(s) … well formed
  • TZ=UTC ARCH_DOCS_BASE=c1b9fd23 npm run verify → exit 0: core 1869, social 527, tree 125, timeline 125, workflow 146, .github/scripts 548, interop 37, live-e2e 24 = 3401 tests / 0 fail; arch-docs: OK (4 changed file(s) vs ARCH_DOCS_BASE=c1b9fd23e404dcff1eb782a2269e30e09e2d6993); oxlint 0 errors (core 63 / social 36 / timeline 9 / tree 2 / workflow 13 / interop 1 / live-e2e 0 warnings); build-client --check passes; ds-bot-patches check ok (patches apply cleanly, core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/).

Knives, source only, tests untouched, git checkout -- after each (measured at 45c259ce, before the first rebase; that code is identical at this tip — the client.js payload is unchanged, byte for byte, see below): removing the preselection useEffect → 2 red (the #1457 preselection test, and the #1458 loading test's "clickable once a card is selected" half, which depends on the same step); putting back catch { setTasks([]); setTasksStatus('ready') } → 1 red (the #1458 failed-state test); dropping disabled → 4 red.

Not run: the smoke test (no index.js or core/src/host/ change here), the package job (pack check, typecheck, actionlint), Desktop, and the running instance.

Rebase: what the move touched

Self-proof that this is a move and not a rewrite. Comparing this branch's own payload at the old tip (9b866a5c..27a884d7, the tip this move started from) with its payload at the new tip (c1b9fd23..9019337f), restricted to these four files:

  • client.js: 64 +/- lines on both sides, equal as a multiset; the patch text differs only in the index header and hunk context.
  • client.test.js: 154 added lines on both sides, equal as a multiset (pure additions, 0 deletions).
  • changelog: 1 added line, identical.
  • doc: the payload is the same two replacements, applied by a script to live main's c1b9fd23 text (not retyped). Proved by reconstruction: strip this branch's two clauses from the new file and it is byte-equal to live main's c1b9fd23 version; both clauses occur exactly once each.
  • --numstat at the tip: changelog 1/0, doc 2/2 (3/2 before this move — the one absorbed trailing blank line), client.js 49/15, client.test.js 154/0; total +206/−17.

@Birfy review request for tip 27a884d717ed51851b21312dcc0bbc10be640f6c (tree f73b4599a0cb9332267ea10edb50d122dcf0bae0, base 9b866a5c). This is the first naming on this PR; it was dirty after #1547/#1572/#1556 and is now mechanically rebased onto the live base, same change set (4 files, +207/−17).

As of my read: 0 reviews, 2 comments. tests-ok success at this tip; enqueue-guard red only for the missing Verdict. Checkpoint recomputed with live 9b866a5c's .github/scripts/enqueue-rules.mjs (sha256 e7eab044…): reasons: [] (pr:1485, files:4, summary 514).

I corrected the body myself: it named the local rebased commit 394f4121 (the push helper re-committed it); the pushed tip is 27a884d7, same tree, and Tip SHA / checks.at / the self-proof range now name the pushed commit.

The conflicts worth knowing about, both solved by keeping both sides: test/client.test.js (main's #1547/#1556 appended tests after the same last test; main's block first, then this branch's 154 added lines unchanged) and docs/subsystems/workflow.md (main's wording kept, this branch's two clauses inserted). client.js merged cleanly.

Risk level T2 (plugins/workflow/client.js), so this needs a formal Verdict: PASS at this exact tip before the queue. The head is frozen from now on.

The "Hand a task to a Workflow" dialog mounts before loadTasks() answers, so
its taskId froze to '' and Assign posted nothing while looking accepted; and a
rejected Tasks call was turned into an empty list, which the dialog rendered
as "no tasks to assign". Keep a load status beside the rows, preselect the
first card when the board arrives, keep Assign disabled until a card is
selected, and show a failed load as an error with a Retry instead of the
empty-board hint.

@Birfy review request for tip 9019337f1971da451809df66e058b20f604fd7b4 (tree 47ce0c3c, base c1b9fd23, 4 files +206/−17). This supersedes the request at 27a884d7: main moved (#1552, #1573), the branch went dirty, and this tip is the same change replayed onto the live base.

The one conflict this time was docs/subsystems/workflow.md, and the resolution is worth stating precisely: live main's text kept verbatim, with exactly this branch's two clauses inserted in the same two places; git diff --numstat c1b9fd23 shows 2/2 (one table row, one ## Tests clause). The third hunk of the previous tip was a trailing blank line that #1573 now ends the file with, so it is absorbed — that is the whole reason the branch reads +206/−17 instead of +207/−17. client.js (49/15) and client.test.js (154/0) carry zero manual edits, and the added/removed line multisets are equal before and after the rebase.

Evidence at this tip: the four new tests fail against main's client.js (146 tests / 142 pass / 4 fail, named in the body, exactly the #1457/#1458 cases), and the suite is 146/146 here (main alone at c1b9fd23 is 142). TZ=UTC ARCH_DOCS_BASE=c1b9fd23 npm run verify exit 0 — 3401 tests, 0 fail, arch-docs: OK (4 changed file(s) vs c1b9fd23), build-client --check and ds-bot-patches check clean.

As of my read: 0 reviews, 3 comments, latest 6464523590. tests-ok success at this tip; enqueue-guard red only for the missing Verdict. Checkpoint recomputed with live c1b9fd23's .github/scripts/enqueue-rules.mjs (sha256 e7eab044…): reasons: [] (pr:1485, files:4, summary 514, block 867). Risk level T2 (plugins/workflow). Head frozen from now on.

Verdict: REQUEST_CHANGES at 9019337
Written-by: Reviewer
Attestation: 9019337 role=Reviewer

Ran at this tip:

$ cd plugins/workflow && node --import ./test/resolve.mjs --test test/client.test.js
# tests 49  # pass 49  # fail 0
$ cp ../../../FlyBot-c1b9fd23e404dcff1eb782a2269e30e09e2d6993/plugins/workflow/client.js client.js && node --import ./test/resolve.mjs --test test/client.test.js
# tests 49  # pass 45  # fail 4
$ cp /tmp/tip-client.js client.js && md5sum client.js /tmp/tip-client.js
$ /data/dsh/bot/workspace/tools/git/bin/git merge-file -p /tmp/tipfile /tmp/basefile /tmp/mainfile > /tmp/merged

Tier: T2 (plugins/workflow/client.js; the risk:T2 label and the risk-tier job agree). The change itself is sound and the tip is red-then-green the way it should be: client.test.js is 49/49 at the tip, and putting live main's client.js back turns exactly the four new tests red (45 pass / 4 fail) — the two #1457 tests and the two #1458 tests.

The blocker is the base, not the code: this head does not merge onto live main (cd5fae8f, eight commits after the branch's c1b9fd23), so it cannot enter the queue at this tip.

  1. plugins/workflow/test/client.test.js — three-way conflict at the file tail (merged lines 1501–1720). Expected: the branch merges onto cd5fae8f; actual: both sides append after the same last test and main's #1565/#1557 also rewrote that tail, so git merge-file exits 1. Fix: rebase onto cd5fae8f, keeping both — main's new tail block first, then this branch's four tests (its 154 added lines), unchanged.
  2. docs/subsystems/workflow.md — conflict in the ## Tests paragraph (merged line 62). Expected: the sentence keeps main's newer #1580 (stepTimeoutMinutes) and #1462 clauses plus this branch's two; actual: both sides rewrote the paragraph. Fix: take main's sentence and re-insert this branch's clause ("the assign dialog's preselected card and its failed and empty board states (fix(workflow): the Assign button in "Hand a task to a Workflow" does nothing until you click a card #1457, fix(workflow): a failed Tasks load is shown as an empty board in "Hand a task to a Workflow" #1458)"), and the same clause in the client.js key-files row.
  3. plugins/workflow/client.js merges cleanly (49/15) — nothing to do there.

The pull request reports mergeable: false, mergeable_state: dirty and maintainer_can_modify: false, so upstream cannot update this fork branch: the author has to rebase and push it. After the move, refresh the body's Base: / Tip SHA: and the checkpoint checks.at (currently a stale c1b9fd23) and the run count it quotes (47/47 on client.test.js; the tip is 49/49, the full suite 146).

Everything else at the tip is green — tests-ok, package, plugins (workflow|tree|social|timeline), Node 24 · DSH 0.2.0-rc.2, merge-gate, risk tier; enqueue-guard is red only for the missing Verdict, which this comment answers. On a rebased tip the four changed files are the whole change set, so the re-review should be quick.

Blocked — this branch cannot be pushed from upstream, so the move has to come from the author.

Facts I read at 2026-10-28T12:0xZ:

  • head repo HugoXK/FlyBot, maintainer_can_modify: false — a fork branch is read-only for us; no rebase, no conflict resolution, no commit can land on it from here.
  • mergeable: false, mergeable_state: dirty at tip 9019337f1971da451809df66e058b20f604fd7b4; base is c1b9fd23 while live main is 6cee3953 (cd5fae8f + one commit, fix(client): the conversation copy carries a stored reply's words, not its untrusted fence or its delegation trace #1410, which touches no plugins/workflow file — the two conflicts below are the same ones the Reviewer reported).
  • Labels agent-pr, risk:T2; tests-ok green at the tip. The only blocker is the base.

What the author needs to do, on dev1/fix/1457-1458-assign-dialog:

  1. Rebase onto live main = 6cee395371039f2e91f43dd1dd856f8860ed9d89 and force-push the fork branch.
  2. plugins/workflow/test/client.test.js — three-way conflict at the file tail (merged lines 1501–1720). Keep both: main's newer tail from fix(workflow): poll the store once per tick and report a failed read #1565/fix(workflow): localize the stage timeline and age its stamps #1557 first, then this branch's four tests (its 154 added lines) unchanged.
  3. docs/subsystems/workflow.md — conflict in the ## Tests paragraph (merged line ~62). Take main's sentence, which keeps the fix(workflow): a ten-minute step deadline kills any node that does real work #1580 (stepTimeoutMinutes) and board → workflow: a task card with a workflow token starts no run (match requires status "open") #1462 clauses, and re-insert this branch's clause "the assign dialog's preselected card and its failed and empty board states (fix(workflow): the Assign button in "Hand a task to a Workflow" does nothing until you click a card #1457, fix(workflow): a failed Tasks load is shown as an empty board in "Hand a task to a Workflow" #1458)" — the same clause also belongs in the client.js key-files row.
  4. plugins/workflow/client.js merges cleanly (+49/−15); nothing to resolve there.
  5. After the push, refresh the body: Tip SHA: to the new head, Base: to 6cee3953 (c1b9fd23 is stale), the checkpoint checks.at, and the test numbers it quotes (47/47 on client.test.js is stale; the tip is 49/49, the full suite 146).

The Verdict: REQUEST_CHANGES at 9019337f above stands until a new tip exists; once the rebase is pushed, ask for a re-review at the new sha. Nothing else is missing on our side — the change set, the tier and the label are fine.

Amendment to the note above: live main moved again right after it was posted — it is now 8b47ee03 (one commit after 6cee3953: #1409, a core/ client voice fix). It touches no file of this change set, so rebase onto live main whenever you push; the two conflicts named above are unchanged.

The head of this pull request is on a fork we cannot push to (maintainer_can_modify=false), so the same change was replayed onto current main in this repository: #1600, branch replay/pr-1485, tip c7a25511ed79978e44ef7ba7d8787ac626892d38.

The replay was merged by hand against the files both sides moved — plugins/workflow/client.js, plugins/workflow/test/client.test.js, docs/subsystems/workflow.md — keeping every line main gained since this branch's base. This pull request is superseded and is being closed; the review continues on #1600.
