feat(cursor): honor global Cursor config and instructions - #174
Cursor agents ignore ~/.cursor/cli-config.json, so a user who turned off commit and PR attribution still gets "Made with Cursor" footers in their PRs.
Cursor agents never see a home-level instructions file such as ~/AGENTS.md, so global rules users rely on in other providers silently do not apply.
The cli-config.json location is a path setting, matching how Codex and Claude expose their config homes, so users with a non-default Cursor config can point at it.
The Cursor SDK exposes no option for attribution or permissions, so T3 has to carry these choices itself; cli-config.json permissions remain unsupported because the SDK offers no approval hook.
Medium Risk
Changes the first message payload for every new Cursor thread and reads user-configured paths from disk, but failures are non-blocking and there is no auth or billing impact.
Overview
Because the Cursor Agent SDK does not apply cli-config.json or home-level instruction files, T3 now reads those paths itself and injects the result into the first user message of each new thread (runOrdinal === 1).
New provider settings expose optional cliConfigPath and instructionsPath (with ~/ expansion), wired from the driver into the adapter. cursorUserInstructions loads markdown from the instructions file when present, parses attribution flags from JSON config (defaulting to ~/.cursor/cli-config.json, or CURSOR_CONFIG_DIR / XDG), and builds prompt sections that tell the agent to skip Cursor footers when the user disabled commit or PR attribution. Missing or unreadable files are skipped with warnings rather than failing the turn.
prependCursorUserInstructions prepends that block ahead of the existing T3 orchestration prompt only on the first run; later turns and /compress are unchanged aside from tests that assert the composed first message content.

The Cursor provider adds settings for global configuration and an optional instructions path. It reads applicable Cursor instructions and configuration, then prepends the resulting instructions to the first-run prompt.
Changes: Cursor global configuration
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Configuration and instruction loading packages/provider-cursor/src/settings.ts, packages/provider-cursor/src/server/globalConfig.ts
Cursor settings add a global-configuration toggle and optional instructions path. New helpers resolve the home directory, read applicable files, and build instruction text.
Adapter integration and validation packages/provider-cursor/src/server/adapter.ts, packages/provider-cursor/src/server/driver.ts, packages/provider-cursor/src/server/adapter.test.ts
The adapter and driver pass the new settings into agent creation. On the first run, the adapter prepends loaded instructions to the orchestration prompt. Tests check setting sources and prompt contents.

Users with a redirected Cursor configuration may not receive their attribution preference, and turning off global configuration may still leave their sandbox policy active. Address both gaps before merging.

Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description states the problem in four bullets. It says Cursor agents ignore ~/.cursor/cli-config.json, so attribution footers still appear after a user opts out. It says Cursor agents never receive home-level instructions such as ~/AGENTS.md. It adds a path setting for a non-default Cursor config home and notes that cli-config.json permissions stay unsupported because the SDK has no approval hook. The description does not follow the template. It has no Problem, Change, Scope and approval, or Verification headings. It does not link a triaged issue or maintainer approval for the scope. It gives no tests or manual checks and no observed results. It also omits the model and harness note. The objectives mention a broader feature covering MCP servers, hooks, and sandbox settings, but the description does not cover those. The description therefore lacks required sections and information.
Resolution
Rewrite the description to use the repository template headings: Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification. Under Problem, state the expected behavior and reproduction steps for the attribution and instructions gaps. Under Change, explain how the globalConfig and instructionsPath options fix them. Under Scope and approval, link the triaged issue or the maintainer approval comment. Explain why the new path setting and global-config toggle stay within the existing Cursor capability, or obtain approval for the broader scope. The objectives also cite MCP servers, hooks, and sandbox settings. Either document those in the description or remove them from the scope. Under Verification, list the focused adapter tests you ran, the observed results, and anything you could not check. Add the model and harness used, if an agent did the work.

Instructions lost after conversation compaction
Medium Severity
Global Cursor instructions and attribution rules are gated on runOrdinal === 1, so they ride on the prompt only for the first turn. After /compress, the adapter already re-sends T3 orchestration because a compacted conversation loses prompt-injected guidance, but it never re-attaches these user rules. Attribution opt-outs and home-level instructions then silently stop applying for the rest of the thread.
