mycelium

Adaptive graph-based communication network inspired by fungal mycelium. Part of the Unstable Kernel ecosystem.

Architecture

graph TD
    subgraph "kernel-mycelium"
        N[Nodes<br/>stationary, activation level]
        E[Edges<br/>weighted connections]
        S[Signals<br/>travel along edges]
        P[Params<br/>speed, decay, growth]
    end
    S -->|strengthen| E
    E -->|weaken over time| E
    N -->|growth threshold| E

How It Works

  1. Nodes are stationary points connected by weighted edges
  2. Signals travel along edges at configurable speed
  3. Active edges strengthen (Hebbian: "fire together, wire together")
  4. Idle edges weaken and eventually disconnect
  5. Highly activated nodes sprout new edges to nearby unconnected nodes
  6. The network self-organizes to efficiently route information

Usage

use kernel_mycelium::{MyceliumNetwork, MyceliumParams};

let mut net = MyceliumNetwork::new(50, 1200.0, 800.0, 42);
let params = MyceliumParams::default();

net.inject_signal(0, 1.0);

for _ in 0..1000 {
    net.step(&params);
}
