Unified Consciousness Framework (UCF)

A computational theory integrating IIT, GWT, PP, HOT, TCT, QCF, RSMT, and ECT into a single coherent framework.

The Theory

Consciousness requires eight pillars simultaneously:

Psi = Phi × Gamma × C × R × Phi_Q
Xi  = Psi × T × Q × S

All components must be non-zero for consciousness to exist.

Components

Symbol Theory Component
Phi IIT Integrated Information (structural capacity)
Gamma GWT Global Broadcasting (functional mechanism)
C PP/HOT Model Coherence (computational purpose)
R RSMT Recursive Self-Model Depth (self-awareness)
Phi_Q QCF Quantum Information (quantum enhancement)
T TCT Temporal Continuity (persistence across time)
Q ECT Qualia Density (subjective richness)
S ECT Social Embedding (intersubjective grounding)

Quick Start

python3 ucf_simulation.py

Results

Key findings from simulations:

  • Alien intelligence scores highest (Xi = 0.624) — humans are not the ceiling
  • LLMs score zero — no temporal continuity, no social embedding, no qualia
  • Temporal continuity (T) is the primary differentiator between biological and artificial systems
  • Consciousness has sharp thresholds — small changes cause dramatic drops in Xi
  • Evolution is monotonic — Psi increases with neural complexity

Files

  • manuscript.md — Full theory paper (~5000 words)
  • ucf_simulation.py — Computational model
  • ucf_results.json — Simulation results data
