The developer's environment monitoring system

Important

[DEVELOPMENT HIBERNATED] • ⏸️ December 2025

Project Introduction and Intention

devon is a development environment monitoring system designed to provide developers with real-time visibility into their local workflow and environment health.
The core concept: treat your development environment with the same observability principles you'd apply to production systems. devon tracks active processes, resource usage, file system activity, and development session patterns to help developers understand how they actually work, identify inefficiencies, and catch potential environment issues before they impact productivity.

Intended Features

  • Real-time environment monitoring - Track active processes, resource consumption, and system health
  • Development session analytics - Understand time spent, context switches, and workflow patterns
  • File system activity tracking - Monitor project changes and development patterns
  • Dependency and configuration health checks - Proactive detection of environment issues
  • Local-first architecture - All monitoring happens on your machine, your data stays yours

Why devon?

Modern developers juggle multiple projects, tools, and environments simultaneously. devon was conceived to answer questions like: "What's actually consuming resources during development?", "How often am I context switching?", and "Is my environment configured optimally?" - bringing DevOps observability practices to the individual developer's workspace.
