feat(sync): keep departed shows' newest episodes for 90 days - #1166
Stage 6 can keep a departed show's newest 5 episode vectors and its show vector for 90 days after it was last on a chart, instead of deleting them with its catalog row after the 7-day grace (RETENTION_MODE).
It ships in count mode: today's deletes continue, and the run report says what on would keep, delete and expire.
A size guard on episode points: a warning past 1.8M; past 2.0M, retention steps down to 60, then 30 days, and an urgent alert goes out.
Motivation
Recommendations may suggest any show that charted in the last 90 days, but its vectors are deleted 7 days after it leaves the charts.
Sizing from the attribution log: about 2,350 shows (36k episode points) leave the charts a day. Keeping everything for 90 days would need about 3M points (7.5–8.5 GB in Qdrant); keeping each departed show's newest 5 needs about 1.5M (3.6–4 GB). Qdrant's limit was raised from 4 to 6 GB alongside this.
What changed
lib/retention.js:
archiveShows keeps each show's newest episode points by published date and deletes the rest.
enforce deletes points whose charted_at is older than the retention window, in both collections, and steps the window down while the index is over the ceiling.
summary builds the report line.
06-cleanup-non-chart.js:
With on, a show past the grace is archived in place instead of deleted. Its kept points are stamped with the exact last chart day, and its catalog row and state still go.
After the cap trim, every mode except off runs retention, adds its line to the report and raises or resolves the qdrant-size alert through SYNC_NOTIFY_SCRIPT.
In count mode, the facet counts already taken for the attribution log give the would-keep numbers.
lib/attribution.js: show- events carry kept; expired points are logged as exp and reported as retention.
Tests: lib/retention.test.js covers archiving, expiry, the guard's step-down, count mode and the report line; the attribution tests cover kept and expired points. scripts/README.md describes the module.
Behavior & compatibility
count (the default) changes no deletes. on deletes strictly less than today: a departed show's older episodes go as they do now, its newest 5 and its show vector stay until 90 days after it last charted.
The cap trim leaves archived shows alone (their 5 points are under any cap); a returning show is re-imported and keeps its surviving vectors.
The Worker already falls back to the vector payload when a show has no catalog row.
Read-only rehearsal on the runner for tonight's cleanup: 2,132 shows past the grace; on would keep 9,302 of their episode points and delete 23,662; nothing is past 90 days; 846,470 episode points.

Added
Catalog sync: shows that leave the charts can keep their newest 5 episode vectors for 90 days (RETENTION_MODE, count by default), with a size guard that shortens retention and alerts when the index grows past its ceiling.

📝 Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added configurable retention options for episode and show data, including retention periods and the number of recent episodes to keep after a show leaves the charts.
Added point-count warnings and urgent notifications when storage approaches or exceeds its configured limit, with an all-clear notification when it drops below the limit.
The default count mode reports potential retention actions without changing existing deletion behavior. Retention can also be enabled or turned off.
Stage 6 now supports configurable retention modes, departed-show episode archiving, and expiration of old points. It reports retention totals, attributes expired points, and sends notifications based on Qdrant size thresholds.

Adds retention settings, helpers for archiving and expiring points, and tests for the policy. The sync test command now runs the retention tests. The README documents the modes and size thresholds.
Runs retention after episode-cap trimming. In on mode, it archives departed shows and enforces expiration. It includes retention results in cleanup summaries and sends notifications based on Qdrant size thresholds.

boxcreate/boxlore#1164: Adds the charted_at payload that retention uses to select expired points.
Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 91b46
Retention is opt-in through on mode, since the default is count, but failed date stamps can still cause live show vectors to be deleted or leave retained points that never expire. Retention failures can also exit successfully without alerting. Fix the stamp-failure handling and the exit status before enabling on mode.

Explanation
PASS: The pull request changes only scripts/ JavaScript, tests, package metadata, and documentation. No Android feature or core module changes are present. The added imports are limited to existing sync libraries, Node built-ins, and ./lib/retention/./lib/config. The changed lines contain no feature-to-feature imports, PostHog, Hilt, Koin, Dagger, MockK, PlaybackRepository, AppContainer, designsystem, or playback dependencies. Therefore the listed ARCHITECTURE.md violations are not introduced.

Explanation
PASS: The PR changes only Node.js catalog-sync code under scripts/sync; it does not change JVM/Android engines, repositories, ViewModels, or helpers under a JVM logic/ source set. The PR adds hermetic Node tests in scripts/sync/lib/retention.test.js and extends attribution.test.js, and includes them in test:sync. No src/test JVM test is required for this change.

calls and skip the destructive retention.enforce call if any stamp fails; only
apply expiry after all current chart shows are stamped successfully.
- Around line 273-276: Update the chartedAt.stamp flow before qdrantOk.push so
the chunk is added only when all required date stamps succeed; otherwise leave
it pending for a later retry. Use the stamp result to determine success and
preserve the existing successful-chunk behavior.
- Around line 121-123: Update the retention failure catch in the cleanup stage
so Qdrant count or expiry-delete errors cannot return “retention skipped” as a
successful result; propagate the error or mark the stage failed so the runner
can retry or alert.

- Around line 173-177: Update the RETENTION_DAYS and QDRANT_POINTS_CEILING
parsing in the configuration object to accept only complete decimal integers
before applying their minimums, so exponent notation and other trailing or
malformed characters are rejected rather than partially parsed. Preserve the
existing defaults for empty settings.

qdrant.deleteByFilter to collect attribution counts before deletion without
writing expiry events, then write those events only after the wait-confirmed
delete succeeds; leave events unrecorded if deletion fails.
