Description

Adds session reverification to MFA setup, matching the legacy MFA screens, which reverify creating a phone, reserving a phone for SMS verification, and creating an authenticator. When Clerk requires verification, the add dialog moves to its existing verify step, as backup codes already do, then continues the setup. Code verification and authenticator code checks are not reverified, as in legacy.

Dismissing the verification closes the dialog without enrolling the method. While a setup request is in flight the dialog now stays open until it responds, as backup codes do, so a verification that arrives late always has somewhere to show; previously starting authenticator setup could be dismissed mid-request.

📝 Walkthrough

MFA phone creation, SMS enrollment, and TOTP creation now use reverification-wrapped operations. The controller selects a visible reverification controller and passes it to the setup view. The view provides an autofocus ref to the verification step. Tests cover successful reverification, cancellation, retry behavior, and pending authenticator preparation.

Add a non-empty changeset for @clerk/mosaic.

This PR changes the published Mosaic MFA setup behavior. The empty changeset does not identify a package or create release notes. Add a package changeset with the appropriate version bump so the release workflow includes @clerk/mosaic.

Declare the async test callback return type.

The **/*.{ts,tsx} guideline applies to this test file and requires explicit function return types. The Mosaic testing guidance defines no exception for test callbacks.

Update the callbacks passed to useReverificationFlow for createPhone,
reservePhone, and createTotp with explicit Promise return types matching their
resource results: PhoneNumberResource for the first two and TOTPResource for the
third.

Declare the return type of ReverifyStep.

The applicable TypeScript rule requires explicit return types for functions in *.tsx files. ReverifyStep omits this required annotation. Add the explicit JSX return type that matches its returned Reverification element. This is a type-only correction and does not change runtime behavior.

Looks good! Left a few small comments, all NITs or questions.

NIT: This is one complex ternary. Maybe we could break it apart a bit?

For SMS, I think this also covers when the SMS code is being verified. Previously, you could close during that stage and now you can't, is that intentional?

This has drifted from the onDialogOpenChange logic above so there are situations the close button might be showing when it's not actually clickable.

const RESEND_COOLDOWN_SECONDS = 30;

NIT: The | undefined in the element type is only there so .includes(context.pending) type-checks. A small isReverifiable(pending?: MfaAction) helper, or a context.pending !== undefined && guard, would keep the list typed as plain MfaAction[]. Feel free to ignore.

NIT: Could add a comment to make the implicit thing we are relying on clear here:

Suggested change
const reverification =
[model.createPhoneReverification, model.enrollSmsReverification, model.authenticatorReverification].find(
controller => controller.visible,
) ?? model.backupCodesReverification;
// The machine guarantees that only one is running/visible at a time
const reverification =
[model.createPhoneReverification, model.enrollSmsReverification, model.authenticatorReverification].find(
controller => controller.visible,
) ?? model.backupCodesReverification;
