Values from .databricks/bundle/<target>/variable-overrides.json are located at <variable-overrides> in the bundle root: the file is written by tools, so relative paths in it resolve against the bundle root, and diagnostics name it by that label. Relative paths in
.databricks/bundle/<target>/variable-overrides.jsonnow resolve against the bundle root. Values from that file are located at<variable-overrides>in the bundle root, so diagnostics readin <variable-overrides>:4:6instead of pointing at a file users don't edit. JSON parse errors still name the real file.Before, paths resolved relative to
.databricks/bundle/<target>/: task files failed with "path ... is defined relative to the bundle root directory", and libraries were silently rewritten under.databricks/bundle/<target>/.Why
The overrides file is written by tools (not users); paths in it are relative to the bundle.
Tests
acceptance/bundle/validate/variable_overrides_file_complex_path(from #7029) now records both paths resolving against the bundle root and a warning located at<variable-overrides>; its Badness entry is removed.Stacked on #7029.
