Octane

We make quietly useful software.

Octane is an independent studio building products across food, money, productivity, and policy. Some commercial, some open. All made carefully, by a small team, on no one's timeline but our own.

What we're doing

We organise our year around shipping a handful of products well, rather than one product loudly.

  • Eatables — A discovery and review platform for finding food worth driving for.
  • Allocat — Envelope-style budgeting that makes the math of your month feel obvious. (open source — repo)
  • Glyphs — A clipboard manager built for people who copy and paste for a living. (open source — repo)
  • Vyuham — Guides Indian businesses through understanding and achieving DPDPA readiness.

Why we're doing it this way

We're a studio, not a startup. That distinction shapes everything else.

  1. Quality over velocity. We invest the time a product needs to be reliable, well-designed, and genuinely useful — rather than optimising for ship-date or growth metrics alone.
  2. Clarity in product and language. Our interfaces, documentation, and decisions are written to be understood without prior context. Plain language is a discipline, not an afterthought.
  3. Open by intent. We open-source projects where transparency benefits the people who use them. Decisions to keep work proprietary are made deliberately, and we're explicit about why.

Some of our products are open source because the people who use them deserve to see how their data is handled. Others are commercial — running a studio costs money. Both kinds of work feed each other.
