Summary

  • Adds 227 test lines in pkg/devcontainer/buildkit/cache_test.go for ref-only and typed cache entries, invalid input, and GitHub Actions cache credentials.
  • Covers token-only and URL-only environment values, explicit empty credentials, mixed explicit/environment credentials, explicit precedence, and preserving sibling entries when GHA entries are dropped.

Why

ParseCacheEntry handles the cache-from/cache-to grammar and fills GitHub Actions cache credentials from environment variables. These cases exercise credential boundaries and precedence where a regression could drop a valid cache or retain an unusable one.

Fixes/Refs

AI assistance

Validation

  • go test -race -count=3 ./pkg/devcontainer/buildkit/: pass.
  • mise run cli:format: pass.
  • mise run cli:lint:ci: pass with zero new findings.
  • golangci-lint run --new-from-rev=$(git merge-base HEAD origin/main) ./pkg/devcontainer/buildkit/...: pass with zero new findings.

Checklist

  • Tests added and hermetic.
  • No product code changed.
  • Mutation check: changing the GHA credential conjunction from && to || makes the URL-only credential test fail.

Notes for reviewers

All additions are in one test file. Full-package lint has existing findings in buildkit.go and remote.go; the changed test file has none.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Expanded automated coverage for cache configuration parsing, including ref-only and typed entries, malformed input, and keys with embedded =.
    • Added checks for GitHub Actions cache credentials, including environment fallback, explicit-attribute precedence, and behavior when credentials are missing or explicitly empty. Tests also verify that other valid cache entries remain available when a GitHub Actions entry is skipped.

Walkthrough

This pull request adds table-driven tests for ParseCacheEntry. The tests cover ref-only and typed entries, invalid input, GHA credential precedence, and omission of GHA entries when credentials are incomplete.

Changes: Cache entry parser test coverage

Layer / File(s) Summary
Parser inputs and credential cases
pkg/devcontainer/buildkit/cache_test.go
Adds helpers and cases for ref-only expansion, typed fields, invalid input, GHA credentials from the environment, explicit credential precedence, and omission of GHA entries with incomplete credentials. The tests also check that dropping a GHA entry preserves a registry sibling.

Add a token-only GHA case to the drop test.

The suite has no case where ACTIONS_RUNTIME_TOKEN is set and no URL is available. addGithubToken requires both values, so a mutation that requires only the token would pass every current case. The current code does not retain token-only GHA entries, so this is a coverage gap, not a current functional defect.

Add a token-only case to the GHA drop test table in the relevant test function

case unchanged.

Add a test case for explicitly empty GHA credentials.

The new credential-drop cases use ghaScopeEntry with no token or url attributes. No test covers a GHA entry whose token and url attributes are present but empty. A regression in addGithubToken could therefore pass the suite. If the check became attribute-presence based, token=,url= would be retained with empty credentials. The current code drops that entry correctly, so this is a coverage gap, not a production defect.

Add mixed explicit/environment GHA credential cases to the test table.

TestParseCacheEntryGhaTakesCredentialsFromEnvironment covers only two inputs: both credentials absent, and both credentials explicit. addGithubToken resolves each credential separately. Under a regression that reads the environment only when both attributes are absent, the mixed cases would drop the entry, and the current test suite would still pass. The current code is correct. The gap affects regression detection only.
