Principles

PRINCIPLES.md named one company and described why it started charging. This states the same principle in general terms: venture money mandates growth, growth mandates revenue, and revenue mandates extraction. The rest of the page already says "the incumbent", and with this change no file in the tree names another expense app.

Earlier mentions in history (old product docs and three commit messages) are left as they are. Removing them would mean rewriting public main and force-pushing.

Release 3.0.0

Cut with cider bump major and cider release. Everything under Unreleased becomes 3.0.0, dated 2026-10-10.

Why major: since 2.0.0 the API removed GET /api/groups and GET /api/groups/{groupId}/changes (replaced by POST /api/sync). Creating a group and updating a profile now require the picture fields. A 2.0.0 build can no longer sync, which the runbook says makes this a major version. A changelog line tells testers to update.

Before merging: the runbook says to send a major release with Play update priority 4, so older installs are made to update. A merge uses vars.PLAY_UPDATE_PRIORITY, which is unset, so it would release at priority 0. Set the variable before merging and delete it afterwards, or run the Release workflow by hand with update_priority: 4.

Play notes: the 500-character limit fits the first four Added lines, so the update line is not among them.

flutter test test/tool passes, including the release-notes checks.

The principle is about what venture money does to apps like this one, and
it reads the same without attributing motives to a particular company. The
rest of the page already says "the incumbent".

Major, as the runbook asks of a version that leaves older clients behind:
since 2.0.0 the server replaced GET /api/groups and
GET /api/groups/{groupId}/changes with POST /api/sync, and creating a group
or updating a profile now needs the picture fields, so a 2.0.0 build can no
longer sync. The changelog says so, for the testers being asked to update.
