• Fixes GHSA-w5hq-g745-h8pq: v3(), v5(), and v6() did not validate that writes would remain within the bounds of a caller-supplied buffer, allowing out-of-bounds writes when an invalid offset was provided. A RangeError is now thrown if offset < 0 or offset + 16 > buf.length.

Holding off on this — uuid v14 is ESM-only (CJS exports were dropped) and the jump from 3.4.0 → 14.0.0 crosses several breaking API changes (notably the v7 default-export removal — code using require('uuid')() will break). Sibling uuid PRs in this batch are failing CI.

This needs a stepped upgrade plus refactoring of the import sites; can't be merged as a straight dependabot bump.

Superseded by #2815, which bumps uuid to v10 (the latest CJS-compatible major) across all affected packages instead of the ESM-only v14 proposed here.
