A focused, local-first desktop writing app for long-form work — books, poetry, and essays. The tools a writer actually needs, not a note app you have to bend into shape.
φ is a writing app, not a note-taking app you wrestle into a manuscript. It keeps your draft, your notes, and every version together as plain files on your own machine — no account, no cloud, and nothing to lock you in.
- Focus mode — a clean page and nothing else, with typewriter scrolling and a reading mode.
- Long-form structure — organize a manuscript into collections (books, parts, chapters) with per-chapter word goals and an outline.
- Version history — automatic checkpoints and named snapshots; restore any earlier draft with a click.
- Links & graph — connect notes with
[[wiki-links]], follow backlinks both ways, and see the whole shape of a project. - Writing-native blocks — verse, scene breaks, epigraphs, pull-quotes, and callouts.
- Annotations — colored highlights and margin notes anchored to the text.
- Spell-check — as-you-type checking in several languages, with a personal dictionary.
- Export anywhere — Markdown, HTML, or plain text, and import whole vaults from Obsidian and Logseq.
Your writing lives in a folder you choose, as plain files you own. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing is uploaded — your words stay on your machine, alpha or not.
φ is in public alpha for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Expect rough edges; your work stays safe regardless, saved continuously and versioned as you go.
