Problem

Before we build the Glean plugin once for every client, we need evidence of how each client loads an Agent Plugins package. The docs don't answer everything: Cursor doesn't expand ${PLUGIN_ROOT}, Claude Code doesn't read the format, and Copilot's behavior with our local MCP server was untested.

Change

Adds docs/agent-plugins-client-tests.md, with the test results. The tests ran against the Codex package that #35 builds with pluginpack 0.12.0 contents:

  • Codex 0.160.1: installs from the marketplace and runs the MCP server from the plugin root.
  • Copilot CLI 1.0.100: installs the package unchanged with 19 skills and runs the MCP server from ${PLUGIN_ROOT}. Installing from a path is deprecated, so Copilot needs a marketplace entry.
  • Claude Code 2.1.284: ignores a root plugin.json and mcp.json placed next to its own manifest, so one directory can carry both.
  • Data directory: Codex sets only PLUGIN_DATA, and start.mjs reads only CLAUDE_PLUGIN_DATA, so Codex users keep using ~/.glean.

VS Code, Cursor and a signed-in Copilot session still need a GUI session. The doc lists the exact checks.

Docs only; nothing ships.

Codex, Copilot CLI and Claude Code results for the pluginpack 0.12 Codex package, plus the VS Code and Cursor checks still to run.

Closing. This records one test run, and it goes stale as the clients change. #37 adds npm run e2e:install, which runs the same install checks on demand. The host support table moves into the README.
