Adds a Signed commits section to this repo's CONTRIBUTING, per owner ruling D218. The estate policy is docs/SIGNING-POLICY.adoc in hyperpolymath/standards.

This repo's default branch is covered by the zero-bypass Require-Signed-Commits ruleset, and rebase-merge is off. The section tells contributors what that requires:

  • People and interactive agents sign with an SSH signing key.
  • Apps, bots and workflows write through the API, so GitHub signs their commits.
  • PRs are merged with squash.

If the file already had its own signing section, that section is replaced in place instead of adding a second one. Lines elsewhere that told people to sign with GPG are changed to match the policy (SSH for people).

This is a docs-only change. The commit was created through createCommitOnBranch, so GitHub signs it.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added contribution guidance requiring signed commits for changes to the default branch. Pull requests must be squash-merged, and unsigned commits on the pull request branch prevent merging.

Walkthrough

The contribution guide now sets commit-signing requirements for commits reaching the default branch. It also describes submission methods for apps, bots and workflows, and requires squash merges for pull requests.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in CONTRIBUTING.adoc: Added commit-signing and merge instructions: default-branch commits must be signed; people and interactive agents use registered SSH signing keys and verified committer emails, while apps, bots and workflows submit via the API or signed-push. PRs must be squash-merged because unsigned branch commits block merging; rebase-merge is disabled.

Align the signing policy values.

CONTRIBUTING.adoc requires signed commits, but .machine_readable/contractiles/trust/Trustfile.a2ml declares signing-policy = "commit-signing-preferred". Define which value is normative and update the other source. If signing is mandatory, replace the Trustfile value with its schema-defined required value. If the Trustfile value is advisory or stale, mark or remove it accordingly.

Review comment at @CONTRIBUTING.adoc around lines 113 - 114:
Align the signing requirement in CONTRIBUTING.adoc with the signing-policy value
in Trustfile.a2ml: establish which source is normative, then update the other so
both express the same policy. If signing is mandatory, use the schema-defined
required value in Trustfile.a2ml; if its value is advisory or stale, mark or
remove it accordingly.
