Specify–Implement–Serve–Deploy Knowledge Object Publication Model
The SISD-KOPM is a publication model for organizing, preserving, and evolving published computational capabilities. Its purpose is to enable evidence-based computational capabilities to become durable scholarly and operational objects that can be discovered, evaluated, referenced, corroborated, realized, deployed, and repeatedly applied at scale.
Unlike traditional software packaging approaches, the SISD-KOPM treats computational capabilities as a new class of publication. A published computational capability possesses a persistent identity, accumulates provenance and corroborating evidence over time, evolves through versioned releases, and supports reproducibility from its foundational specification.
The SISD-KOPM organizes each published computational capability into four realization layers:
- Specify — Computable Knowledge Specification (CKS)
- Implement — Implementation Representations (IRs)
- Serve — Service Realizations (SRs)
- Deploy — Deployment Packages (DPs)
Together these layers define a coherent publication unit containing everything required to identify, understand, corroborate, realize, invoke, and prepare a computational capability for operational application. Actual deployment, execution, and operational use intentionally remain outside the publication boundary.
The long-term goal of the SISD-KOPM is to make evidence-based computational capabilities preferred scholarly and operational resources that people, software systems, and AI agents can repeatedly discover, reference, evaluate, deploy, and apply.
By organizing computational capabilities around durable full-fledged scientific publications rather than routine operational ecosystem specific software artifacts, the SISD-KOPM seeks to support:
